That night, both Wei Ying and Lan Zhan looked at the soulmate mark on their hand.
'Soulmate huh? I can't believe that stoic, emotionless Lan er gongzi is my soulmate. Well this will be fun,' Wei Ying have on a mischievous smile, "Lan er gongzi, I will help you loosing up that stoic and emotionless face of your. You need to have fun for once and breaking your own clan rule. Who follow rule that turn you into a stone cold person," with that last saying Wei Ying fell asleep with many mischievous thing going through his mind.

'I can't believe that rude, rule breaker, annoying and trouble maker is my soulmate. Why him? I don't want that Wei Wuxian as my soulmate, he is not good for me, never will. Maybe, if he doesn't annoy me then I don't have to interact with him. If he does then, I will give him my cold glare. That's what I do to people who try to talk to me, no need to think about it,' with that last though Lan Zhan fell asleep.
The next morning Wei Ying realize that it was the start of the lecture, "Oh no, class is about to begin!" He got up, grabbed his sword and rush out of his room and toward the Orchid room where the class are being held.
Wei Ying arrive just in time, he went to his seat behind Jiang Cheng. Jiang Cheng turn around to ask Wei Ying, "Where were you last night? How did you get in?"
"I will tell you later," Wei Ying whisper back to Jiang Cheng.
Wei Ying soon smell a familiar scent, he turn around to see Lan Zhan walking into the room. Wei Ying grin as he waved at Lan Zhan who just ignore him as he walk to,his sits which is at the front.
"Tch, how cold," 'that will change soon," Wei Ying look to the front, he see Lan Qiren arrive as he sat down on his chair. Everyone stand up, they all step out to stand next to their table. The Lan disciple with the scroll in his hand begin to read from it.
After that Lan disciple finish reading, he call for the first clan to step up to present their gift to Lan Qiren. The first one to go is Jin Zixuan from the Jin clan. Then it was Nie Huaisang turn, last is the Jiang clan Jiang Cheng.
While Jiang Cheng greeted Lan Qiren a voice interrupted him, "I didn't know that Cloud Recesse is this hard to get it." Jiang Cheng is annoyed by Wen Chao interrupted him.
"I didn't know Wen gongzi came to our guest lecture. Over year, the Wen never accepted our invitation, why have Wen gongzi came today?" Lan Xichen asked Wen Chao.
"Don't get me wrong, I am not here for a lecture. I am only here to escorting someone here. Beside, the Wen clan is the one who educated the other. We don't need to get a lecture from you," Wen Chao put a smirk on his face.
From the other side of the room, Wei Ying see Lan Zhan moving forward, 'Lan Zhan, what are you doing?! Are you trying to get yourself kill?!' Wei Ying shouted in his head. He soon see Lan Zhan looked at his brother who shook his head no, telling him not to cause any trouble.
Wei Ying decide to speak up, the thing he said cause Wen Chao to get angry. His disciple pointed their sword at the Jiang clan and the Jiang clan did the same.
When Lan Qiren see this, he look up at Lan Xichen. He play on his xiao, both side sword left their hand and we up to the roof.
Lan Xichen step down from where he is standing, "Wen gongzi, today is the start of Cloud Recesse ceremony day. I hope that Wen gongzi could restrain yourself," what Lan Xichen said made Wen Chao angry, just when he is about to say something else, a girl from behind Wen Chao step up.
She bow to Lan Xichen and then to Lan Qiren. "My name is Wen Qing, I am from Qishan Wen clan. I am ordered by Xiandu to attend lecture here in Cloud Recesse. I, Wen Qing and my little brother, Wen Ning is our first time here in cloud Recesse and we are not familiar with the Lan clan rule. I hope that Sect leader Lan and Master Lan can forgive us."
Wen Ning walk up next to his sister, he handed the red big box over to his sister. Wen Qing hold the box in front of Lan Xichen, hoping that Lan Xichen will accept it. To Lan Xichen, he doesn't know if he want to take it or not.
Lan Qiren stood up from his seats, he walk to the front of his desk. Lan Xichen turn around to looked at his uncle. "If that is the case, then I will accept it," Lan Xichen accepted the gift from Wen Qing hand.
"Wen gongzi the ceremony is over, please come to class on time tomorrow," after saying this to Wen Chao, he left from there with an angry expression on his face.
When class dismissed for the day, Nie Huaisang, Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng walk together since they just got to know each other. On their way out Wei Ying see Lan Zhan walking out as well.
"Lan Zhan! Lan Zhan! Is me! Is me!" Wei Ying waved his hand back and forth to get Lan Zhan attention.
Lan Zhan gave him a cold shoulder, he doesn't want to acknowledge Wei Ying calling out to him. He end up walking away from there.
"It look like he didn't hear me. Maybe next time," Wei Ying said while fixing his long sleeves.
"Wei xiong, since when did you call Lan er gongzi by his first name? He just gave you a cold shoulder, what did you do?" Nie Huaisang asked.
"I also want to know," Jiang Cheng said from behind them.
"I came back late, I broke the Lan clan protective array, I brought back two Tianzi Xiao with me and I got into a fight with him," Wei Ying said proudly.
"What you go into a fight with Lan er gongzi? Where?" Jiang Cheng asked.
"Up there," Wei Wuxian pointed to the roof on their right.
"You fought with Lan er gongzi? Wei xiong, you sure are reckless," Nie Huaisang said with a slight laugh in his voice.
Wei Ying begin to tell Nie Huaisang about what happen last night as the two of them walk to the lake behind Cloud Recesse to catch some first to eat.
Day after day, Wei Ying couldn't stay awake listen to Lan Qiren reading 30000 rule of the Lan clan. Even Nie Huaisang is sleepy as well, Wei Ying took a glance over at Lan Zhan on the other side of the room, 'How can he even sit so straight listen to all of these rule? Doesn't he know about them already?'
On to the next day, while Lan Qiren walking up and down the isle, Wei Ying threw a piece of paper over to Nie Huaisang who woke up and saw a ball paper next to him. Then it was his turn to throw it back to Wei Ying. He open the paper, inside is a candy or something. He put it in his mouth before Lan Qiren can see it.
When Lan Qiren walk pass Wei Ying table, he stocked a piece of paper with a turtle on it , to the back of Lan Qiren back. This made everyone in the room giggle, Lan Qiren turn around to tell them all there is no laughing.
Lan Zhan see this, he made the paper disappear, then he look over at Wei Ying he gave him a cold glare.
'Did he just give me a cold glare? How cold can you get?' Then a mischievous smile appear on his face. Wei Ying pull out a red paper man, he send his spiritual energy in it. He lay the paper man down on the table, soon it start to move and fly over to Lan Zhan. When Lan Qiren see this he call out his name, "Wei Ying!"
"Here!" Wei Ying stand up, he watch as the paper man climb up Lan Zhan arm. Wei Ying hold back his laugh, even Nie Huaisang hold back his laugh as well.
Lan Qiren as Wei Ying about Yao, ghost, demon and monster if they are the same. Which Wei Ying answer no. He explain each of them differently. And then Lan Qiren ask for example, so Wei Ying did, it was a good example.
Then Lan Qiren ask a question which Wei Ying about each clan symbol, he answered them all perfectly correct, 'this guy is smart but why does he have to act so different on the outside?' Lan Zhan thought to himself.
Lan Qiren came up with a question that Wei Ying can't answer,he came up with a question about a butcher, who executed hundreds of people, he died in public, punish him for his deed, left on the street for seven day, resentment energy came out, and he start to haunt and kill, what should he do.
Wei Ying doesn't know the answer to Lan Qiren question, even the other students doesn't know. They try to look through the book, Lan Qiren see this and tell them to not look at their book but instead think for themselves.
Knowing that Wei Ying doesn't know the answer, he turn to his best students Lan Zhan, "Wangji tell him."
Lan Zhan said three step that can help this butcher, first: liberate, second:suppress and third: eliminate. He explained how to use each of this one at a time. (Not gonna go into detail, you all know it. I try to write differently then my other story.)
Hearing this Wei Ying input his own theory about how to use resentful energy as there own since spiritual energy is spiritual energy and resentful energy is resentful energy. This got Wei Ying to get kick out of Lan Qiren classroom.
Wei Ying glanced at Lan Zhan one last time before leaving, 'I am glad to be out of there, I can't even sit still or stay awake listen to that old man Lan talking about his clan rule. Who would've thought, the Lan clan follow such strict rule.'
Wei Ying end up walking around Cloud Recesse to pass time, that is where he meet Wen Ning learning to use bow and arrow.
