"Good morning, sweet babies!" Janis greets happily as she goes to get her daughters ready for the day. "Come here, look!"

She picks both babies out of their cribs and carries them over to the big window, opening the curtain so they can see out. The babies blink as the bright sun streams in and their eyes adjust, but they quickly start drumming on the glass with eager little hands.

"It snowed, what do you think? Should we wake up Mama and go play?"

"Mamamama," Layla babbles happily.

"Yeah, okay, come here," Janis chuckles. When she turns around to get the babies changed, Cady is awake, watching them from bed with the fondest, most adoring smile. Janis quickly gets the little ones changed and heads back over.

"Good morning, baby bugs! Come here," Cady coos, reaching for the babies. "Good morning to you too, my love."

"Morning, baby," Janis replies, handing the twins over for some cuddles and leaning in for a kiss. Cady takes the babies and kisses her back eagerly. "Did you see it snowed?"

"Did it?" Cady asks eagerly. Janis grins and nods. "Aww, yay! Your first ever snow, girls!"

"Aaa!" Layla shrieks excitedly. Cady laughs and kisses her forehead.

"I know! So exciting," she giggles. "I love you two so much, I can't take it."

Janis climbs back into her side of the bed and cuddles in with her whole family. Cady smiles and tips her head down for another kiss.

"What should we have for breakfast?" Janis asks.

"Mm... something with fruit. Ooh, could we have those yogurt things again? Those were so good," Cady says, her mouth already watering at the mere memory of the delicious parfaits Janis had scrounged together.

"Sure, Peanut," Janis chuckles.

"Can you take them so I can get up? I'll come hang out with you," Cady says, handing over a baby and trying to wiggle her way out of bed. Janis takes both and carries them downstairs for her. "My big strong love."

"They're babies, Cads, they're only fourteen pounds," Janis says, handing them back as they enter the living room.

"But put together that's almost thirty," Cady says. "Little chunks."

"That's all your doing," Janis replies, pulling the things she needs out of the fridge. Cady kicks over one of the baby seats and pops Layla in, sitting at the counter next to her to watch Janis work. Leo happily starts eating her own breakfast in the meantime. Cady smiles down at her and brushes a finger over her cheek.

"Yeah. I'm not complaining, though. At least they eat now."

"Fair enough," Janis chuckles. "They're certainly healthy."

"That's all we care about," Cady informs the twins. "Of course, it helps that you're the sweetest little munchkins ever. And so beautiful."

Layla gives a happy little squeal, making both her moms laugh.

"Yeah, we're talking about you! Do you wanna try some yogurt?" Janis says. She gets a tiny bit in a spoon and offers it to the baby, who opens her mouth eagerly to taste this new thing. Janis pops the bite in her mouth and pulls back to see how she reacts to it. "What do you think, Ladybug? Yummy?"

"Oh," Cady hums as the baby pulls the most revolted face. Layla smacks her lips curiously and looks at the spoon in confusion. "Oh, maybe?" Layla opens her mouth again, seeming to want another bite. "See if she'll sign for it, Jayjay."

"You want more?" Janis asks, demonstrating the sign Cady's been trying to teach them. "More?"

Layla looks at her oddly for a second before attempting to copy her motion. It's much less refined than Janis', but they can put it together well enough. She even goes the extra mile and adds in her sign for 'eat'.

"That's pretty good!" Cady cheers as Janis gives Layla some more of the yogurt. "Don't eat too much, though, you still need your actual breakfast."

"Good job, Bug!" Janis cheers, kissing her cheek to distract her from the fact that she's not going to get another bite. Cady smiles and switches the babies out while Janis goes back to finish making breakfast for the grownups.

-----

After everyone (including the pets) has been fed, Janis and Cady put their boots on to introduce the babies to their first snow.

"What do you think, my little snowflakes?" Cady asks, holding Leo so she can see. Janis has Layla, who flaps her arms like a bird in her excitement. "Someone's happy."

"Here, what do you think?" Janis chuckles, grabbing a small handful of snow and bringing it close for Layla to investigate. They didn't get their gloves, or anything on the little ones, since it was just supposed to be a quick look at the snow. Her fingers are already freezing. "Snow?"

"Nananana," Layla babbles, grabbing a little fistful from Janis' offered pile.

"I think she likes it," Cady giggles as Layla immediately tries to put her hand in her mouth. Janis stops her before she can. Layla looks curiously at her hand as the cold starts to set in. "Uh oh."

Layla bursts into tears as her little fingers freeze, wailing at her mommy. But she absolutely refuses to release her handful of snow.

"Well, Bug, you gotta let go of it," Janis chuckles sadly. Layla wails again. "Let go!"

Layla continues crying as Janis carefully pries her little fingers apart and brushes the remnants of snow off her chubby palm. Janis holds her small hand in her own to warm Layla's little fingers back up, as Layla cries into her shoulder.

"Poor baby," Cady says sadly. Janis just squeezes the little hand gently and hushes the baby as best she can. "This one seems happy, at least. What do you think, Bumblebee? You like the snow?"

"Lalala?" Leo asks, looking at her sister in concern.

"Lala's okay, sweetheart," Cady coos. "Should we go back inside?"

"Probably," Janis chuckles sadly. She and Cady kick the snow off their boots and head back inside. Layla continues her crying even as she feels the air get much warmer around her and her mommy gently kisses her chubby hand. "Poor baby. Shh, honeybunny. You're okay."

"We'll have to get them some little gloves next time," Cady chuckles. "We'll try again some other time."

"Yeah," Janis says, kissing a teary baby cheek. "I should probably go shovel the driveway before it freezes."

"I could," Cady offers. Janis shakes her head.

"You hate the cold. You stay here and love on the little ones," she says, handing a still weepy Layla over. "I'll be right back."

"Okay. Hurry, we'll miss you," Cady hums, kissing her wife as Janis goes to tug on her coat and hat and gloves.

"I'll miss you too. Be good for Mama, little bugs," she says, kissing all three of them before she opens the door.

"Eee," Leo whimpers, reaching in the direction Janis has disappeared to.

"She'll be right back, little love, you're okay," Cady hushes. "Come here, you want to watch and see what she's doing?"

Cady carries the twins over to the front door and sits down in front of it. Leo is content to sit in her lap and watch Janis at work, but Cady keeps Layla cuddled close since she's still upset by her run-in with the snow.

"Here we go! There's Mommy, what's she doing?"

"Eee," Leo says again, happily this time as she watches Janis at work. Layla finally calms down as she's cuddled close and Cady gives her lots of loving kisses.

Janis looks up after about half of the driveway has been cleared and notices her family there watching her. She smiles widely and waves. They can just barely hear her laughter as Leo presses herself against the foggy glass door and sucks at it like a little cleaner fish.

"Bee, what are you doing?" Cady giggles as well, waving back to Janis. "Get down, crazy. You're definitely your mommy's daughter."

--

Cady stays there the whole time Janis works, just watching her with their children on her lap. Janis smiles every time she looks up to see them still there, and that makes it all worth it.

Janis does eventually finish. They usually do it together to save time, but someone has to stay with the twins this year. She puts the shovel back in the garage and comes to crouch in front of the door. Leo squeals happily and presses herself back to the glass.

Janis reaches over and grabs another handful of snow for the twins to observe. Cady can see what she's planning. Layla doesn't seem particularly interested, but little Leo is still trying to get to her mommy.

Sure enough, Janis gently tosses the snow at the glass. Leo isn't expecting it and falls backwards off the door into Cady's lap. Cady looks down at her as her lower lip pokes out and she bursts into startled tears.

"Oh, sweetheart," Cady coos, scooping Leo up and holding her close. Janis pouts and comes back inside. "That was not nice, Mommy."

"I'm sorry, Bee, come here," Janis says once she has all her snow gear off. Leo wraps her little arms around her and wails into her neck. "I'm sorry, baby girl, I didn't mean to scare you. That wasn't nice of me."

"I think you're forgiven already, she's just scared," Cady chuckles, looking at how tightly Leo is clinging to Janis for comfort. She stands up with Layla and closes the door, rubbing her free hand over Leo's back. "Poor baby, that was scary."

"Shh, mon coeur, my goodness," Janis croons quietly. "You're okay. Are you sleepy? I think it's naptime, too."

"Could be," Cady hums thoughtfully. "Layla's usually the fussy one when she's tired. Maybe she just slept really well last night."

Janis kisses Leo's temple and pats her cushioned little bum, still trying to get her calmed down. "Can they sleep in our bed? I feel bad."

"Sure," Cady chuckles. "We've had a hard morning, it's not your fault."

Janis shrugs at that, following Cady up the stairs to the bedroom. Cady and Layla grab the babies' pacifiers and sleep suits from their cribs before they join Janis and Leo in the big bed.

"Here we go," Cady says. Leo finally goes quiet, realizing she's held close and safe where the scary snow can't get her. Cady smiles at her when she pokes her sweet little face out from Janis' neck and looks at her. "Hi, baby. You want your binkie?"

Leo knows what that means, and opens her mouth. Cady pops her pacifier in and smiles again as the little stuffed giraffe on the end bobs up and down slightly. She gently brushes her thumb over Leo's chubby little cheek, wiping some leftover tears away from her pink face. Leo sniffs a bit and wiggles up to be closer to her mommy.

"This is the best part of snow days," Cady says happily as she zips Layla into her sleep suit and brings her up to feed her. "Staying inside to snuggle."

"Agreed," Janis says, scooting closer with Leo and cuddling in. "I love you."

"I love you too," Cady says quietly, tipping her face up for a kiss. Janis returns it for a long moment before they break apart. Cady leans down a bit to kiss Leo's little nose. "And I love you." She brings Layla up a bit to kiss her. "And I love you."

You're the best presents I could've asked for.
