It was a known fact to every student and professor at Hogwarts, that James Potter was completely and utterly infatuated with Lily Evans.
It was also known that Lily Evans absolutely hated his guts.
It started way back in first year.
The two actually met after their sorting and got along decently.
But then James Potter fell, literally and emotionally.
James was accidentally shoved down a flight of stairs by none other than his best friend, Sirius Black.
He then landed at the feet of Lily Evans, and she helped him up and asked him if he was alright.
James would always remember the softness and kindness in her voice.
So that was when James Potter fell, and he fell hard.

It was now currently James' fifth year at Hogwarts, and he has yet to make any progress with Lily.
He felt like he's tried everything.
In first year he didn't know any better, so he asked her out constantly.
That clearly didn't work, seeing as he got books thrown in his face five times a day.
In his second year, he stopped asking her out entirely, making Lily think he was only joking in first year.
And finally in third and fourth year, he went back to asking her out and flirting with her.
He didn't ask her out as often as in first year, since he realized he was basically harassing the poor girl.
But that tactic also did not work.
So here James Potter was in a predicament.
He sighed and ran a hand through his messy hair.
He didn't know what to do.
All he wanted was Lily Evans to finally return his affections.
James understood though, that she didn't, and he would never force her into it.
He wanted her to actually like him, not just go out with him so that he would stop pestering her.
So that was when James Potter finally made up his mind on how we was going to get Lily to actually like him, or at least tolerate him.
He had a game plan for this year.
And he thought of the perfect idea on how to show her that he actually liked her, and it wasn't just some joke.
But his plan required a little, assistance.

"You want us to help you do what?" Remus asked, confusion written all over his face.
"C'mon Moony." James pleaded.
"Y'know this might piss her off, right?" Lyla said.
"I think it's a great idea." Sirius said with a grin.
"Thanks Pads, at least some people in this room support me." James said while glaring at Lyla and Remus.
"Yeah, if it works you'll finally get the girl of your dreams, and we won't have to hear you talk about her anymore."
"And if it doesn't, well.. we'll get to see Evans throw a book at your face." Sirius concluded with a smirk, as patted James on the back.
"Okay, I'm sold." Lyla said while standing up and grinning at James.
James huffed in annoyance.
He then turned to Remus and Peter.
Peter shrugged and said,
"I have nothing better to do."
Remus groaned and pinched the bridge of his nose.
"Fine." He muttered.
"Yes!" James exclaimed while throwing his hands up in victory.
Remus sighed and said,
"Let's just get this over with."
2 hours later
The Marauders all stuck their heads out from behind the wall and watched as Lily was having a conversation with Marlene, Mary, and Alice.
They turned back and started going over their plan.
"Okay, so there is a high chance that this plan can go to shit." Lyla said.
"And we would need to run and hide from a terrifying ginger." Sirius said.
"Yeah, so uhhh.. if we piss her off our code word is... antlers." said Peter.
"Antlers?" James questioned, turning towards Peter.
"It was the first thing that came to mind." Peter said while shrugging.
"I can't believe I agreed to help with this." Regulus said while hitting his head against the wall.
"Oh don't worry, you get used to it." Remus said.
Sirius rolled his eyes.
"Ok Reg, you remember your part of the plan?" Sirius said while turning towards his little brother.
"Yup, I just distract McKinnon, Fortescue, MacDonald, and get Evans alone."
"Great you remember."
"Thanks again baby Black." James said with a smile.
Regulus looked at him unamused and said,
"As long as I get my fifty gallons we're good."
"Ok." James muttered.
"Can we please get this over with already?" Peter asked impatiently.
"Yeah, ok Reggie, you're up." Lyla said.
Regulus groaned and started walking towards the girls.
Only one sentence kept on repeating in his head.
Why am I here? Why am I here? Why am I here?
He finally stopped in front of the girls and cleared his throat.
Mary looked up and asked,
"Can we help you with something Black?"
Regulus, realizing that he didn't have a plan on how to distract them muttered,
"Fuck."
"What was that?" Marlene asked.
"Hmm, oh nothing."
"So umm... what are you doing here?" Alice asked him in her usual sweet voice.
"I just... needed McKinnon, MacDonald, and you."
"What for?" Lily asked him, slightly suspicious of his intentions.
"I- I don't exactly know." Regulus said.
Marlene gave him a confused look.
"Lyla just asked me to come get you, I don't know what for." He said with a nervous laugh.
"Oh, well why didn't you just say so." Mary said, preparing to go with him.
Holy shit! That actually worked! Regulus thought to himself.
"Let's go then." He said and the girls proceeded to follow him.
He let them turn the corner first before he looked back and saw James' head sticking out.
Regulus winked at him before walking away.
James then slowly started walking towards Lily.
Once Lily saw him walking over she immediately tried to walk away, but James quickly grabbed her hand.
"Wait, please." He said.
She huffed and turned around and waited for him to start talking.
"Look, I won't take long. I- I just wanted to tell you something." James said.
Lily couldn't believe her ears.
Did the James "cocky arrogant toe-rag" Potter just stutter?
"Look Eva- Lily, I know that over the years I've made your life a living hell."
"You could say that." She muttered sarcastically.
"And I know you think that me liking you is some joke."
Lily looked up into his eyes and said,
"Go on."
"But it wasn't, it never was."
James then quickly glanced over at the wall behind them.
Lyla and Sirius under the invisibility cloak, started making lilies float down into the actual Lily's hand.
She took ahold of them, and started looking around in shock.
Seeing as no one was around them and James had his wand still in his pocket.
Sirius and Lyla made them stop, and then James began speaking again.
"Lily, I'm really sorry for harassing you. I just-at the time didn't know how to make you like me."
Lyla then slightly lowered the invisibility cloak and signaled to Remus and Peter.
Remus then began blowing a soft wind around them, meanwhile Peter released a dove above their heads.
James opened his mouth to speak, but then things started to go terribly wrong.
When the dove flew over their heads and Lily looked up to stare at it, it pooped.
Sirius not noticing what happened, began making it rain lilies again.
But combined with the wind Remus was making, the lilies started hitting James and Lily in the face.
While James and Lily were trying to get away from the flowers, the poop dripped from Lily's forehead and into her eye.
James then began trying to help her as tears started to form in Lily's eye.
Then all of a sudden another dove was released and it started attacking and biting James.
James and Lily were completely surrounded by a complete and utter mess.
Then, to make matters worse, Marlene, Mary, and Alice came running back, with a confunded Regulus behind them.
"What the fuck!" Marlene exclaimed.
The Marauders then got out of their hiding places and stared at the scene with wide eyes.
"What the hell?" Sirius said.
Remus then stopped the wind, while Lyla stopped the flowers.
The bird was still attacking James, so Peter threw a piece of bread across the corridor.
The dove flew away and the girls went over to Lily, while the Marauders went over to James.
"Antlers." Lyla and Sirius said simultaneously.
Remus looked at them both with an annoyed expression.
"Not the time." Peter mumbled.
They then refocused their attention back on Lily and saw that Alice was able to clean up her eye, and once she did, Lily was furious.
"WHAT THE HELL POTTER?!"
"Look Lil-" James started to say.
"NO!"
"WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU TRYING TO DO?!"
"IS THIS ALL SOME SICK JOKE TO YOU!"
"No of c-"
"I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT EVEN FOR A SECOND I THOUGHT YOU WERE DIFFERENT!" Lily yelled in a disappointed tone.
"THAT YOU ACTUALLY MEANT WHAT YOU SAID!"
The color drained from James' face.
"YOU'RE STILL THE SAME ARROGANT AND COCKY ARESHOLE THAT YOU'VE ALWAYS BEEN!" Lily yelled.
Lily then huffed and walked away.
Alice sent James an apologetic smile, then she Mary and Marlene followed Lily.
James' eyes filled with tears and he sniffled.
He tried to hide it, not wanting his friends to see him a such a state.
Lyla then embraced him, her heart breaking seeing James, happy, carefree, goofy, and idiotic James, like this.
Then the rest of the Marauders were hugging him, as he started to slightly cry into Lyla's hair.
"Well, at least you didn't get a book thrown at your face this time." Lyla said.
James laughed, and this felt like a nice change for once.
Usually it was him comforting all of his friends.
Seeing as they had harder lives than him.
Remus' lycanthropy.
Lyla and Sirius' parental issues.
Peter getting treated very badly by his parents and sister.
James never wanted to bother them with his own stuff, so he hid it from them.
But he finally let it out, and he was glad that they were all here.
Just like he was there whenever they needed him, they would always be there for him too.
Poor James...
