"you're only saying that because you don't wanna admit that i'm right."
keith chuckled,tucking the spoon into his mouth.
kilani shrugged as she mixed her ice cream around in her bowl.
"no i'm not."
she mumbled.
"you are."
he nodded.
"cookie dough ice cream is just cookie dough,chocolate chunks and vanilla ice cream,what's so special about that?"
she scooped the ice cream,eating it off the spoon before swallowing.
"cookies and cream is just Oreos in vanilla ice cream,whats so special about that?"
she squeaked.
he nodded as he licked the excess ice cream from bottom lip.
"touché."
keith took another scoop before swallowing and deciding to take a break from the ice cream.
"okay. i've told you too much about me. now,it's your turn."
keith said as he leaned back in the booth,crossing his arms.
beautiful nodded as she copied his actions,doing the same.
"i guess,i'm kinda boring but if you insist."
"number one. any pets?"
he said as he held up one finger,looking at her confidently.
she nodded with a small smile.
"three dogs,a saint bernard,rottie and a pit. you?"
keith let out a 'oh' is surprise as he scratched his head.
"no,no dogs. my parents work a lot so it would've never worked. wouldn't mind having one now though."
"any sports,besides walking."
he said sarcastically.
"soccer. i'm on the team here."
she said nonchalantly as she looked at the table.
"how come i never see you on the field."
he wondered.
she shook her head.
"because I'm almost always on the bench. besides,i'm not that good anyway."
"don't doubt yourself. confidence is key when it comes to getting better at what you do."
he told her.
kilani chewed the inside of her cheek as she though about what to say.
"thanks. i am trying to get better,but it's hard. i've been playing since i was little,every year i hear the same thing."
he asked curiously.
"what's that?"
she sighed as she leaned back in her seat,playing with her nails.
"you're doing good,but you could be doing better."
"they tell everyone that so that it motivates them to push themselves. don't beat yourself up about it."
he shrugged
she shrugged as she played with the ice cream in her cup.
"i don't know. i like soccer but, maybe i should try something different."
keith swallowed the ice cream.
"is soccer something that you love and that you're willing to try hard at?"
"well,i'm already trying hard but i guess so,yeah."
she shrugged.
"try harder."
he told her.
her face fell as she watched his face go from a serious facade to a goofy smile.
"i'm kidding."
beautiful's shoulders dropped as he laughed.
"loosen up. we're just having a normal conversation,like normal people."
"it doesn't feel normal-"
"that's because you're thinking the worst of the situation. just chill,eat the ice cream and talk."
he pushed the ice cream up to her.
she shrugged.
"you first."
she mumbled.
he groaned before sitting up in his seat.
"what do you wanna know?"
beautiful rocked her head back and forth as she thought.
"what's your favorite movie?"
keith's face fell.
"you made a big deal out of not knowing enough about me just to ask me what my favorite movie is?-"
"shhh"
she shushed him.
"just answer."
keith sighed before answering.
"set it off."
he told her.
"with queen latifah?"
she asked shockingly as he nodded.
"why are you so surprised?"
he laughed as he ate his ice cream.
"i don't know,you just don't seem like the type of person to watch a movie about four women robbing banks."
she said.
"and enjoy it at that."
keith shrugged.
"what can i say,i'm full of surprises"
beautiful sat back in her seat as she eyed him.
"moving on. do you have any siblings? what's your family life like?"
"this sounds like a job interview."
he told her.
"just one,an older brother. his name is Michael."
he said with a rude tone.
"are you guys close-"
"not even. and i'd like to keep it that way."
he interrupted.
beautiful nodded cautiously,trying not get him upset.
"what about your parents?"
she wondered.
"are you guys close?"
"only really my mom"
he said as a smile appeared on his face.
"me and my dad talk here and there."
keith could tell kilani wanted to ask why but decided to keep it to herself.
"he works a lot. he's a workaholic."
he explained making her nod satisfied.
"so that means you and your moms bond is good?"
she clarified.
keith nodded with a grin.
"great. she's sweet and kind,she's a good person."
"what does she do?"
"my mom's a chef and my dads an accountant."
he rubbed his eyes.
"ohhh so you can cook?"
she grinned.
he pointed at himself.
"me? i guess,i can do a little something. what about you?"
"my moms a lawyer and my dads an orthodontist."
she scooped the ice cream.
"i was talking about the cooking,but what you're saying is you're good at arguing and you have nice teeth?"
he asked.
she smiled showing her teeth.
"only the second one."
she told him.
"so you can't cook?"
he shook his head.
"nope. i burn water as we speak."
she clarified making him hum.
"i'll remember that."
keith licked the ice cream from his lips as he looked at her,watching her swerve the spoon around in the cup.
"we've been here for almost two hours and i feel like you know me well enough. you've heard about my siblings,now tell me about yours."
he asked.
"how many siblings do you think i have?"
she mumbled.
keith breathed as he tried to think about it.
"you give me,only child vibes."
she shook her head.
"very wrong."
"one. a girl. you're younger and she's the bossy one."
he assumed.
"you're close. two,a brother and a sister,i am the youngest. you are right about the bossy part though."
she let her head fall.
keith nodded as he waited for her to continue.
"me and my brother have a good bond. he's really smart,mathematician,and my sister is a trying to become a designer."
she explained.
"well life sounds good. at least from my point of view. your dads a orthodontist,moms a lawyer,siblings are successful,where did life go wrong?"
"me and my mom argue a lot,i don't get along with my sister because she's too controlling and i'm notorious for being the least successful me in the family."
she sulked.
"cant be that bad. what's your moms name?"
he asked.
"alicia."
his face scrunched up as he made a sound.
"oh,women named alicia be the scariest ones. i take that back."
kilani gawked.
"stop! how do you know that?"
"i used to date one. she almost broke into my house."
he nodded thinking back to his junior year.
"yeah,she was insecure as hell. thought i was cheating on her,i wasn't, found out my address from one of my guys. showed up in the middle of the night tryna break through the front door."
he shrugged.
"what did you do?"
kilani asked in disbelief.
he shrugged with a smirk.
"kept my cool. eventually she got tired and left. i broke up with her the next day,she had my mom scared and i don't play about my moms."
"where is she now?"
kilani asked curiously as he thought about an answer.
" i think she got pregnant towards the end of the year and switched schools. i don't know,don't got nothing to do with me,i'm not the father so."
he shrugged.
"bad decisions"
he said making her nod in agreement.
"speaking of bad decisions,i wanna apologize for mine."
he cleared his throat.
"i'm sorry. for the way i acted the other day. i shouldn't have cussed you out like that. that's not my place and i don't know what came over me. i was just worried and shit so,i hope that doesn't contribute to this whole situation."
kilani shrugged with a small smile.
"it's ok."
she said warmly.
he shook his head.
"no,it's not. don't be so forgiving."
he told her.
"i can't help it. it's an instinct."
she shrugged.
"well,be careful with it. a lot of people will try to take advantage of it."
he lectured her.
he cleared his throat as he looked away from her.
"it's almost noon. i have practice at one and i'm assuming you have a life outside of this ice cream shop too,so we should go."
kilani nodded as they both got up from their seats,throwing away their trash before exiting the shop.
"your dorm isn't that far from here. i can cruise on the side of the street while you walk,if you want."
keith said as he hopped into his car.
"what side of the street do you wanna walk on?"
he pressed the start button as he pulled his seat belt on,not hearing a response from her.
"kilani?"
he asked as he scrolled through his phone to look for music.
before he could look around his car,the passengers seat door opened as kilani slid into the car.
keith raised his eyebrows at her as he watched her close the door and turn to him.
"come on. you know where i stay."

"tomorrow at nine. and don't be late,i have a class to get to."
keith told her as closed the door.
she nodded.
"i got it. i'll be standing out here at 8:59."
he rolled his eyes as he kissed his teeth.
"right. okay kilani,goodnight."
he said pulling off.
kilani waved as she stepped back into the complex,finding her door and her key.
just as she put the key into the hole,she paused.
thinking about the situation at hand.
was sincere home?
was she still upset?
kilani unlocked the door as she pushed it open,stepping in before letting it shut behind her.
the house was quiet as a mouse.
the living room clean with a candle lit in the middle of the coffee table.
the window was open,allowing the light breeze and sounds of chirping birds flow through.
beautiful sat her bag on the floor next to the door,pulling her shoes off before skimming around the house quietly.
she hummed as she saw nobody in sight,sighing in relief as she allowed her sock covered feet to carry her to the kitchen.
she pulled the door open,looking inside the fridge for a snack,deciding on pretzels and hummus.
"she's not here."
beautiful jumped as she turned around,noticing remedy sitting at the island behind her.
"what-"
"sincere. you're looking for her. she left for class a little bit after you. her class ended like almost two hours ago though. haven't heard from her since."
she shrugged,dipping a pretzel into the hummus.
beautiful sat down next to her at the island,picking up a pretzel.
"oh."
remedy swallowed her food before answering.
"you don't have to act so nonchalant. she was being a bitch,and for no reason at all. i don't know what got into her but she needs to fix it,now. i'm not gonna keep dealing with her-"
"thanks,but can we not talk about sincere. i'm trying to forget about that whole situation right now."
she said.
remedy nodded respectfully.
"that's fine. i don't wanna worry you so."
the girls sat in silence as they ate the snack,listening to the sound of each other's chewing.
remedy's eyebrows furrowed as she looked up at beautiful.
"it's just past noon,where have you been?"
beautiful stopped chewing as her eyes connected with remedy's.
"um. with...keith."
beautiful said nonchalantly.
remedy didn't buy it.
"really?"
she asked with raised eyebrows,making beautiful nod slowly.
remedy smirked as she picked up another pretzel,biting into it.
"interesting."
she broke down the words sarcastically.
"in-ter-es-ting."

i genuinely hate this chapter so i'm apologizing yall,i'm sorry. it's so bad. 2/10.
anyways pretzels and hummus are the superior snack.
i also went to back to the bricks for the first time in like five years,it was fun.
btw,back to the bricks is like a week long event in my city.
everybody sits on the streets in the city and hangs out while a bunch of people drive by in their cars.
old school cars,new cars,show cars,motorcycles,trucks.
it was fun.
