Now he'd done it.

Kaira awkwardly stood there, anger exuding from her skin. With her jaw clenched and her stare empty, she watched Light's smug expression as he introduced her to the stranger in front of her. His hands were both dug in the pockets of his pants, and his facial features were perfectly neutral. He could almost seem unbothered– if it weren't for the smirk growing on his lips. He had his usual expression of self-satisfaction, the one he wears when he successfully gets a reaction out of her or when things go his way.

This time, however, she didn't understand what he was trying to achieve with this. Out of all the things she expected, this was the last damn thing on the list. Hell, it wasn't even on there.

She suspected this whole thing was a game to him, but the confirmation irritated her beyond words. There she was, gambling her entire life away while he grinned     and wrapped her arm around her, forcing her closer, "I'm telling you, she's great."

She blushed at the contact, although innocent; his scent wrapped her up in a trance, as it always did, and for a bit, her anger dissipated. It seemed to melt every time his fingers grazed her skin. It swung right back in as he stared down at her, eyes filling with amusement.

"I've never met someone quite as intuitive as she is."

Each of his words was controlled and pronounced too perfectly, too calmly for this to be a rushed decision. His gaze was far too amused for this to be a gamble. He knew what he was doing.

    She could tell.

It seemed so dangerous and reckless to bring her right into the case when he knew she knew who Kira was. Nothing was stopping her from outing him, right? Nothing was stopping her from pushing Light away and telling the third person what she knew.

But it seemed too evident, somehow.

Would anyone even believe her? Would Light end up framing her? He was the one with all the knowledge about this case, after all. He was the one with the expertise on the Death Note. At this point, he was the one pulling the strings.

Bringing the only person in the whole world who knows Light's true identity directly into the case was perhaps the smartest risk he could have taken because he regained control, somehow. Why would anyone in their right mind be so reckless, anyway? Especially someone with Kira's intelligence. If Kaira were to speak right now, the odds of this stranger believing her would be incredibly low. The situation could very well turn against her since she had the Death Note somewhere in her apartment. Light didn't have it in his possession, and until then, there was not a thing in the world she could do to prove he was Kira.

Not without making herself a suspect.

Light knew that. He knew all of that. It infuriated her so much; all she wanted to do was wipe that damn smirk off his face.

The dark-haired man finally shifted his gaze to look at Kaira. His eyes were empty; it was as if she was staring into the nil, somehow. Light had eyes that were undecipherable, but this man had nothing at all to decipher. Strands of hair hung messily over his eyes, casting shadows over the already existing darkness spreading over the skin under his eyes.

He looked exhausted– like he rarely ever slept.

But mostly, he looked unbothered. His hands were dug in his pockets; his shoulders were relaxed, his posture slightly off, and he simply glanced down at Kaira, not an ounce of emotion visible on his features.

She furrowed her eyebrows, never having met someone who seemed so... indifferent. It was odd.

"Great, then," he replied, the ghost of a smile hovering over his lips, "you can call me Ryuzaki."

    "I'm Kaira."

☻︎☻︎☻︎

"Are you out of your fucking mind?" Kaira slammed the door of her apartment, almost closing it straight in Light's face. He grinned as he caught the door and stepped in, closing the door behind him calmy by leaning back on it.

    "Hm. I don't believe I am."

"God, you're infuriating. Is this a game to you?" She lowered her tone, trying to contain her again as much as she could. She knew getting mad would only fuel his amusement even further.

"It became one the day you initiated it, sweetheart," he replied, smug expression pulling at his features, "none of this would be happening if you'd given me my damn notebook when I asked for it."

"Did you seriously expect me to hand it back to you as if nothing had happened? To ignore it and go about my day and pretend I saw nothing?" She scoffed, raising her eyebrows in disbelief, "Light, how the hell did you think I'd react?"

"I didn't expect anything, quite frankly, because you weren't supposed to find out–

"But I did. And trust me, if you think you can make my life a living hell without me making yours your worst nightmare, you're not as good as I thought you were at reading people." Her pointer finger poked at his chest with each sentence, her eyes now the ones filling themselves up with amusement, "you think you're way ahead of me," this time, she pushed him down by his shoulders onto a chair and leaned down, inches away from his face, "don't you?"

    "Kaira–

"Shut the hell up for once, will you? God, you're annoying." She grinned, holding his collar to restrain him from moving up.

It seemed this side of her had been a bit repressed ever since Light had come into her life.

She despised being told what to do, being toyed with, or arrogance. Light was a combination of all of those things. She tolerated not an ounce of disrespect. However, with Light, she found herself subconsciously enjoying his sarcastic remarks or the amusement whirling in his gaze. As much as she despised it, she ached for how Light could make her feel.  The feeling of someone putting her in her place was new; it was exhilarating. She would never admit it to anyone, let alone to herself, but she was so incredibly turned on by Light.

Still, that dominant, almost aggressive part of her was too prominent to ignore.

Without saying a word, she undid his tie and snaked her hands around his waist to reach the back of the chair. She pushed his arms back to tie them together into a few tight knots; knots Light would hopefully struggle to untie.

"What the hell do you think you're doing?" He asked sternly, strands of hair messily hanging over his forehead. Despite his attempt at looking intimidating, she instantly noticed the intrigue growing in his stare and smiled to herself, now being the one to be satisfied with the way he reacted to her.

With one leg between his legs, she placed a finger under a chin to force him to look up at her. She smiled sweetly as her finger delicately brushed against his jaw, "I'm making sure you remember who you're dealing with."

And she sealed that promise with a light, gentle kiss.

"This isn't how this works, sweetheart." He leaned back in the chair, a smirk growing on his lips as he rolled his eyes.

"Hm. Enlighten me then, how does this work?"

She hovered over him, an inch away from his face. The lack of contact was driving him mad; he yanked against the fabric of his tie but failed to set his hands free, the knot only tightening at the sudden pull. Kaira noticed, and an arrogant smirk spread on her lips, "already so impatient? I haven't even touched you yet, Light."

"You're so going to regret this," he warned, a smile tugging at his lips as he already began imagining all the ways he'd punish her later.

"Perhaps." She shrugged, knowing damn well she probably would. Still hovering over him and torturing him with the slow pace of her movements, she leaned over his left ear, and he swore he felt her smile against the shell of his ear, "But not today."
