"Why do you keep staring at it?"
"I can't believe it's real."
His hand found my adorned one and he brought it up to his lips. He placed a soft kiss against the back of my hand and peered up at me.
"It's as real as the moon and stars."
I smiled back at him, feeling more at peace than I think I ever have.
"You asked my dad."
"What?"
He settled back on the hammock and propped one hand behind his head. I nuzzled in against him and rested my left hand on his chest. It was hard not to focus on the ring.
"You did the whole 'asking for her hand in marriage' thing," I elaborated.
"Yeah, in a sense. I just asked for his blessing to make you happy forever," he smiled.
I watched his face flood with such relaxed and content emotion. He reminded me of an ocean after a storm: serene, eased, magnificent.
"It was scary," he explained, "If he had said he doesn't approve, I don't know what I would've done."
"He loves you," I pecked his left pec softly, making him giggle slightly.
"Your mom told me she caught him listening to 'Get Used To It' on repeat."
I chuckled at the idea of my dad jamming to Justin's music without me.
"I think our friends are still dying over the news," I said as our phones started yet another buzzing fit on the table next to glasses of watered down lemonade in pools of melted ice.
"I like this. Just us. I'm scared to look at my phone because I don't want it to stop being just us," he says with an exaggerated and adorable pout.
"It'll always be us and only us," I snuggle him.
"Did you just quote that musical you love to me?" he arched a brow, peering down at me.
I grinned, "You know I love Dear Evan Hansen."
"That's a yes then," he smiled.

"Stop," I giggled.
Justin collapsed his body on top of mine, making sure to relax all his weight.
"Justin!" I clasped his torso as he nuzzled his head into my neck.
With my eyes cast down, I caught him smirking.
"You said I wasn't that heavy though. You saying otherwise now, baby?" he chuckled, breaking his attempt at keeping his accusation serious.
"You're heavy when you lie on me like this," I pouted.
He poked his head up and looked at me before kissing my jaw gently. He propped up on his hands and stumbled onto his side, pulling me close to him as he did. The hammock swayed at the movement before settling comfortably again.
Justin's body looked like art. His tattooed skin had splatters of sunlight reflected on it from the rays poking through the lush canopy of tree leaves overhead. I watched him lazily trace his finger from my arm to my chest, down between my breasts, and circle around my bellybutton, His finger captured remaining water droplets on my skin from the dip in the pool we'd taken a mere fifteen minutes ago.
I draped my damp hair back and away from my ears, resting my cheek against his chest.
"Valfredo struck again, by the way," Justin said.
I looked up at him, "That came out of nowhere. We're lying like this, looking like this, and you're thinking about Vi and Fredo?" I chuckled, amused by the joke that popped into my head right before I said, "If Vi knew, she'd use it as evidence that you agree with her about Valfredo being the best."
Justin's expression contorted into one of mild and joking disgust, "She can dream on."
I smiled, "Well, I guess we should shut everyone up before it escalates into all Teal levels of ridiculous," I joked.
Justin grinned at my comparison between humorous ridiculousness and Teal talking about literally anything she's a fan of.
He reached for his phone on the small lawn table beside us.
"The last Q&A we did was kind of a disaster," Justin's cheeks flushed a faint shade of red.
"Well, we kind of redeemed it with my birthday one where you made a cameo," I replied.
"Yeah, and there's no bananas around right now, so we should be safe," he joked.
Justin navigated around on his phone and held it up, his thumb ready to hit the 'start live' button.
"Ready, set..."
"Go," I pressed it before he could.
He chuckled, playfully pinching my side to tickle me. I reflexively grabbed his hand to block him before I keeled over in stitches of laughter.
"Hello," Justin waved and wrapped his arm around my shoulders before I rested my head down again.
"Hi. So, as some of you may have seen, Violet and Alfredo bullied us into doing this," I joked.
Justin and I scanned the sudden rush of comments as quickly as we could.
One caught my eye: "Bullied? Oh, please 🙄" from Violet, making me laugh.
"Ask us the questions and stuff," Justin said, squinting slightly at the screen.
"Your arm is gonna get tired," I sat up slightly, turning my head to look at him.
He sat up and crossed his legs, pulling me back towards his chest. He leaned forward, making me do the same, and rested his phone between his feet before sitting upright again.
I looked at the phone and turned my head to him, trying not to laugh.
"Ingenuity," he said, glancing at my expression, "Come, people, what do you wanna know?"
I smiled and looked back at his screen.
"We're too blind for this," I hoisted off the hammock and jogged into our suite.
Justin watched before lifting his phone and bringing the screen close to his face.
"I don't know where she ran off to," I heard him say before I was too far to hear more.

"So, we're gonna answer some of your questions. You guys have been going crazy all over social media," I brought my phone closer to my face, trying to catch anything being said in the comments before it disappeared into the digital void.
"You guys type too fast," I said, frowning.
"Got it!"
I turned my head as Char came jogging back, holding an iPad. She climbed onto the hammock and settled between my legs in front of me with her back to my body.
I wrapped an arm around her and looked down over her shoulder as she joined the livestream from the iPad.
"We can use this to see the comments and stuff," she said, glancing up at my phone, still in my other hand.
"Good idea," I nodded, stealing a quick kiss against her cheek.
I sat back a bit and pulled her closer.
"Ask away, people," I said.
Char looked down at her iPad.
"Okay..." her eyebrows creased inward as she focused intently on her iPad. She looked adorable when she concentrated so hard.
"Ooh, a question for me. So... this question says 'Hi Mrs Bieber-to-be,'" a bashful smile broke on her face, and I could see she was trying desperately not to blush. I smiled and tugged her closer. "'How do you feel now that you are engaged, and how do you think the media will react when they find out?'" she read, looking up at my phone screen after reading the question out loud.
"Go ahead, Mrs Bieber-to-be," I teased.
"Well, to answer the first part: It feels amazing and unreal to be engaged. Like I still can't believe it's actually real. In terms of the media," she tucked some stray, damp hairs behind her ear, "I haven't really thought about it. I feel like all of your reactions have beat the media to it. Anything they say now would probably just feel like a professionally curated string of words, hopefully, congratulating us," she turned slightly and glanced at me.
"Yeah, I hope they focus on the facts and are willing to celebrate it, like we are," I added.
"Okay. Ooh, babe, I found one for you," Char said, excitedly, "'How did it feel when you finally asked her to marry you? How did it feel when you put that ring on her finger? How did it feel when she said yes? I'm so curious and in need of something to fangirl over'," Char read, then grinned and looked at me with childlike excitement.
I laughed, nuzzling my head into her shoulder, "Wow."
"All very valid questions," Char said, nudging my head gently.
"So, I mean, the wave of emotions whoever asked that is clearly feeling is similar to how I felt in those moments you asked about. When I finally popped the question, I felt almost like I was frozen in time, waiting to hear what she'd say. When she said yes and I put the ring on her finger, I felt an overwhelming combination of relief and absolute happiness. A moment I had been planning for ages was finally here and it was even better than I imagined. I hope that's enough for you to fangirl over," I smiled.
"Justin was super nervous and clumsy all day leading up to that moment," Char added.
"Yeah, I wanted everything to go as I planned. A little inside scoop for you all, but right before dinner, I ripped my pants. It was not cool," I shook my head.
Char burst into giggles, resting against me as she did. I tried to stay pouty, but her giggle made me smile.
"It was not okay," I chuckled.
"He was really upset about it but got over that," Char said, gladly not letting them in on the reason why I got over it so fast, namely her joke about my underwear.
"Okay, so Hannah asks if we plan on getting a new house," Char said, "Hannah, I feel like you're in all our Q&As. Your username looks familiar. You always ask such respectful and nice questions," Char added.
"A loyal one," I agreed, "Um, I think we will probably get a new house. Something that's just ours. A new chapter, you know."
"Yeah. I love where we stay now, but we do have our own ideas of what our dream family home would look like, and it'll be an exciting journey to start together as a married couple," Char added, then suddenly let out a nervous chuckle.
"What is it?"
"A married couple," she looked at me, "We're gonna be married," she whispered, smiling at me. Her eyes were so filled with happiness, it was like they were gleaming.
"Yes, we will be," I said, smiling at how adorable her random moment of realization seemed.
Char cleared her throat and glanced at my phone screen before focusing back on the iPad, "Someone asks you, babe, how you knew I was the one, like how did you conclude in your mind 'I wanna marry this girl'?" Char read. "'I'm really happy with your decision though and also I love you'," Char read out the rest.
"I love you too," I smiled at my phone, "I don't think there was any one moment in particular that made me realize. It was a kind of collection of everything. She had all the qualities I hold in high regard, she has the same life goals and values as I do. But the seemingly insignificant thing that I think was a huge point in her favor was the fact that when I wake up with her next to me, no matter what the day might hold, I know I can handle it because I'll have her support. It was a huge thing for me that she makes me so comfortable, gets along with my family, can put me in my place, and isn't afraid to let me know how she feels. I can't imagine not knowing her. Like, I literally can't," I rambled on.
Char watched me closely as I spoke. Her eyes shone under the glimmer of tears forming.
I did a double take, smiling nervously as she looked at me like that. "What?"
She slowly turned and wrapped her arms securely around my body, nuzzling herself tightly against me in one of the tightest hugs she's ever given me. I hesitated, slightly taken aback by the action, then wrapped an arm around her too.
"Babe, the people have questions," I raised my brows.
She reluctantly loosened her grip and looked at the iPad again. She slowly started smiling widely as she read, "Okay, this question says 'Hello Biebo'," Char paused and chuckled, "Hey, my nickname! But this is directed at you, Justin. 'I m so happy for you and Char. I was wondering how involved you would want to be in the wedding planning? We all know you are a romantic guy but weddings usually aren't a guy thing, so how much input do you wanna have on it?'" Char read.
I pouted at my phone screen, "Thank you for saying you're happy for us. That means a lot. I'm a little hurt by the other part though."
"What part?" Char tilted her head at me, "The thing about wedding planning not being a guy thing?"
I nodded and emphasized my pout more.
Char chuckled and pointed to my phone screen as a sudden flurry of colorful hearts shot up across the screen.
I broke my facade and grinned, "I plan on being as involved as I can. I mean, I want Char to have the wedding of her dreams, but the day is for both of us, so I'd like it to be collaborative."
Char nodded, "I want the same thing. Unless you insist on something stupid like wearing sneakers or a ski mask or something."
I laughed, "No, I wouldn't do that," then an idea popped into my head, "Unless..."
Char glared at me, warningly. I couldn't even pretend for a second and instantly pulled her close, muffling my amused chuckle into a soft kiss on the top of her head.
Char squinted at the iPad.
"Baby, this is why you got the reading glasses," I said.
She groaned, "I can see."
"Hmm. Sure," I glanced back at my phone screen and mouthed, "She can't," to the viewers.
"Okay, so this is a good follow-up from a different person. They directed it to me, but I feel like we can both answer. They ask what kind of venue we want for our wedding," Char looked up in thought as she rested back against my body, my legs open on either side of her.
She mindlessly stroked my leg as she pondered the question. I'd be lying if I said it didn't distract me from my own pondering.
"Um... I have too many ideas about this one. But the idea of a remote and gorgeous garden - like enchanted forest vibes - seems pretty cool," she answered.
"I really don't have an answer. Just as long as the people we love and care about most are there, I'll be happy," I said.
"We gave the least cool answers, "Char giggled, "Sorry, guys. We literally just got engaged. Let us enjoy the engagement feels for a second."
"Can I pick one next?" I peered over her shoulder at the iPad.
She nodded, holding the iPad up to me slightly.
"Ooh, this one is for you, baby. I like how it starts with 'Hi, Soon-to-be Mrs Bieber'," I expressed, "Um... 'Now that you're engaged are you nervous about what both of your parents might say since you guys have been dating only a year?'" I read out.
"Honestly, no. They both knew before I did," Char joked, "I mean, one thing that was really special to me is that Justin took the time to ask my dad for his blessing - I don't like the whole 'approval' thing because it makes it seem like the woman is some kind of property - This way was more a gesture of courtesy and confidence. By my dad saying he gives his blessing for Justin asking me, it basically confirmed that he stands by Justin for me as my partner. And that is more than enough for me."
"He even said 'Welcome to the family, son' when I talked to him about it," I recalled, "It was really special."
"And my mom is like a giddy teenager over it, so I'm not worried at all about her. She seems more excited about it than I do," Char said, smiling.
"My mom is kind of the same. She is so excited," I added.
"I mean, nothing beats my friends. They are insanely hyped by all of this," Char chuckled, "It's amazing and funny."
"Tealia kills me," I chuckled, remembering some of the crazy reactions Teal has had to literally anything related to my and Char's relationship.
"She's in the chat, babe," Char pointed to an all-caps message from Teal stating, 'YOU LOVE ME, BIEBERS.'
I laughed. How very on-brand of her, "We sure do, Teal."
"Ooh, a dress question!" Char grinned, sidetracked by the in-flood of new questions, "'Have you thought about what kind of dress you want? Do you think you're going to go custom or something off the rack?' This is easy. I definitely want a custom gown. How it'll look is a different story. And I was considering having a more movement-friendly reception dress for when we're partying with our family and friends," Char said.
"You're gonna look insanely beautiful. I might cry," I confessed.
Char smiled and leaned up to gently kiss my jaw.
"YOU'RE gonna look insanely beautiful," Char said.
I chuckled and hugged her close, "WE'RE gonna."
She smiled and nuzzled before turning her attention back to the iPad.
"Oh, I like this next one," I said, "Baby, 'Besides marrying the love of your life, what part of the wedding are you most excited for? I'm so happy for you guys and love you both.' Thank you and we love you too," I beamed at my phone screen. "You can go first."
"Um... I'm kinda most excited for the rings exchange and the first dance," Char said, "The rings because I'm really into symbolism and I like the idea of something so ordinary symbolizing something so extraordinary: Love."
I squeezed her tight, "You big softie."
"Stop," she blushed, "You answer, now."
"For me, it's probably seeing Char for the first time when she walks down the aisle. I've thought about that a lot. I think I know how I'll react, but it's such a buit-up-to moment, that really anything could happen," I expressed.
"All that could happen is I walk down the aisle," Char giggled.
"No, but I could cry or forget what breathing is. Don't tease me," I pouted.
"You're cute," she smiled, nuzzling under my chin against my chest, "I didn't know you had thought about it before."
I squeezed her gently to my body, a small smile spreading across my face as I rested my head on hers.
She tapped on the iPad screen and squinted.
"Okay, someone asks me how it feels to be engaged to the love of my life," Char said.
She instantly grinned and started kissing along my jaw and cheeks incessantly, making me laugh.
"It feels absolutely amazing," she answered.
"I agree."
"They also added 'I really hope your relationship lasts for a lifetime and the next, unlike some recent celebrity relationships. By the way, I love you'," Char read.
I looked at the phone screen as Char propped up a bit to answer.
"Firstly, thank you and I love you too. I hope the same. I think 'celebrity' couples have it difficult in terms of privacy because they can have so much of their relationships blown up and magnified on a global scale for everyone to see and comment on. It makes it a lot worse to deal with, for sure. Breakups are already difficult enough without the world weighing in on the private parts of your life," Char expressed.
I knew she was thinking about our breakup as she said it. I hated that that was a part of our history, but I knew it always would be. The only good thing that came from that was that it reaffirmed our own feelings for each other. It made us stronger. It just hurts that to get to that, we had to hurt each other. Or more accurately, I had to hurt her.
I stroked her arm, trying to lighten the mood again. The last thing we wanted was to relive sad feelings on a damn Instagram Live.
"You know, 'Lifetime' is actually a cool name for a song," I said, thinking back to the wording of the fan's question.
Char smiled and nodded, "A cute, romantic, soul-warming kind of love song," she said.
I smiled at her description. Truthfully, a lifetime doesn't even sound like enough time with her. Now and forever. A lifetime and forever.
I pulled my focus back as Char shifted to get comfortable again, causing the hammock to sway gently.
"Babe, there's a honeymoon question," I teasingly wiggled my eyebrows at her.
A faint smirk appeared on Char's face as she scanned the screen for the question. We were definitely thinking the same thing.
"It's a question for you. From Hannah. She asks 'Hi Bieber, let's talks honeymoon. Where are you taking her? Are you thinking somewhere tropical like the Maldives or somewhere more touristy like Paris? Side note: these are not suggestions, but I'm curious'," Char smiled as she read out the question.
"I love how I'm being asked this and not you because your list of dream destinations is so long," I joked.
"Yeah, but mine is so long, so your input is needed to whittle it down," Char smiled at me.
"Hmm, well, truthfully, I haven't decided; we haven't decided. I was thinking about a European trip since I know Char wants to see so many countries there, but the privacy of some remote tropical escape would be awesome for... reasons," I chuckled, burying my face against Char's shoulder.
She reached her hand back and gently stroked my head.
"I know what you're thinking, Bieber," she mumbled. She turned to the phone again, "He's not really thinking about the location of a honeymoon, but more about... the activities."
I looked at her with a grin. I could feel my cheeks were heated and I was most definitely blushing.
"Babe."
"You are," she laughed lightly, "Like... snorkeling, strolling cobblestone streets with a coffee in hand," she tried to keep a straight face, sucking in her lips.
"Yeah? Museum visits, dolphin watching?" I looked at her.
As soon as we locked eyes, the ability to suppress our laughter shattered and we both burst into a seemingly uncontrollable fit of giggling.
"I don't know why the comments are being so dirty," Char raised her brow at the screen, her laughter dying down slowly. "You guys are the naughty ones, not us."
"Totally not us. We're innocent," I said, smiling at the screen.
Char reached behind her as she adjusted her body so she had her back squarely against my body. She gently stroked my lower tummy. I grabbed her hips and cleared my throat. Thank fuck the camera only gets us from the shoulders up.
"Any other questions, guys?" I asked.
"No?" she fiddled with the waistband of my swimming trunks, "Well, we just wanna thank you guys for joining us, asking your questions, and for all the love and happy wishes you've been sending our way. We're really grateful for the supportive messages," Char said.
How is she able to frustrate me while being an angel to the fans on the livestream? Multi-tasking on another level.
I grabbed her wrist gently to steady her hand from wandering lower.
"Yeah, thank you guys so much for being so, um, respectful," I glanced down at her hand as she tried to twist it free.
I bit my lip and gently traced a finger on my other hand under the edge of the bikini bottoms at her hips.
"B-Bye, guys," Char's sudden stutter was confirmation I caught her off guard. Success!
"Bye-bye," I smiled at the screen.
Char waved at the screen and ended the livestream.
"Not the naughty ones, huh?" I whispered.
She bit her lip and turned her head, tilting it up slightly to look at me.
"100% your fault," she tried to hide her smile.
"What? You started it with the stomach stroking and the hand wandering," I defended my case.
She narrowed her eyes at me. I did the same at her. We both started laughing as we attempted more serious facial expressions.
"I love you."
"I love you. For a lifetime... and forever."

So...
It's been ages. But I wanted to come back to this story because I hated that it wasn't concluded. That being said, I have an idea of how to end the story, and it will only be a chapter or two or three more at most.
This story has been such an escape for so long. I can't believe I can even see an end.
