Sans' POV
2 and 1/2 years ago

The day was just like yesterday and like the day before yesterday and like the day before yesterday yesterday. Yesterday doesn't sound like a word anymore.

How does that day go? Simple. Sit behind this sentry station in the snowy forest. Practice some knock-knock jokes with the old lady behind the door, go to my two other sentry stations, sell hotdogs in hotland, and hang out at Grillby's. Oh yeah, I also need to pay some taxes and other crappy bills.

At first having four jobs wasn't too bad. But now it's starting to tire me out. I find myself falling asleep a lot more often.

Thinking about that is actually making me sleepy. I'm sure no one will care if I sleep for a. . . few minutes. . .

"SANS WAKE UP!" Papyrus screamed into my ear. I woke up instantly.

"oh heya pap."

"DON'T HEYA ME. HAVE YOU RECALIBRATED YOUR PUZZLES?"

"i was supposed to do that? sorry, guess i forgot."

He sighs. "WHAT IS UP WITH YOU LATELY BROTHER? EACH DAY YOU'RE GETTING EVEN LAZIER."

"that's because i have decided to channel and train my inner laziness."

"YES, BUT NOT DURING WORK!!" He shouts back. He then sighs in defeat. "WHY DON'T YOU TAKE THE REST OF THE DAY OFF. GET SOME REST. OKAY BROTHER?" He smiles calmly. I looked at him surprised.

"really?" I ask skeptically.

"YES REALLY. NOW GO BEFORE I CHANGE MY MIND." He crosses his arms and looks away.

"don't need to tell me twice. see ya later. i'll call you when i femur better."

"SANS!" He yells but before I could hear anything else I teleport to a certain bar seat at Grillby's. I sit here so often, there is a label on the chair with my name on it.

"one bottle of your finest ketchup grillby!" I order to the fire monster. I hear the other monsters greet me with a cheer. He slides one over on the bar top. I open it and take a drink a big chunk of it.

I intake the scent of ketchup, fast food and smoke that surrounds the diner. Monster's talking about whatever, music played from someone's radio because the jukebox still remains broken. The perfect normal day.

I talked with Grillby's for a while until a certain decorated monster burst into the diner.

Gyftrot ran in looking completely freaked out. He crashed into the side of the counter.

"you alright there buddy?" I ask him.

He huffs and tries to catch his breath.
"I need . . . to talk to one of the sentry guys."

"well you're talking to one right now." I take another sip from the ketchup bottle.

"what troubles ya. if people keep decorating your antlers then you might want to talk to the dogs over there." I point to the royal gaurd, not even bothering to put down the botttle.

"It's not that. (While it is still a problem.) I think I might have spotted a human!"

"A HUMAN!!??" Everyone in the diner said out loud.

"I said I think! I could be wrong!" He yells back. The crowd calms down but they still listen in.

"you must be mistaken. i have yet to seen any human pass by in the forest." I assure him.

"Listen me out okay?. . ." He starts then looks around and moves closer. "It started a few days ago. I live near the edge of the cliff in the snowy forest because it is always the most quiet. When I noticed an abandoned house at the bottom really far away. I didn't think much of it until yesterday where I saw smoke coming out of the chimney. At first I thought it was a monster, but then someone walked out, and their silhouette looked nothing like a monster's, but a humans." He said quietly.

"a far off house huh? i'm sure you are only overreacting. most likely a monster who wishes to live alone just like yourself." I reason.

"Yes but can you at least check? I mean, no one knows who lives there at all."

"i'll see what i can do." I tell him and then things go back to normal. Initially, I didn't plan to go check but I couldn't get it out of my mind. What if there was a human there? If I were to find one and give them over to Papyrus so he can turn them in to the king, all of our problems will be fixed. Not only that but Papyrus' dream of making it into the gaurd will come true and I will never have to work another day in my life.

I had trouble sleeping that night thinking of the possibility. Before falling asleep, I made up my mind. I will go investigate this house tomorrow whether there be a human or not.

A GUIDE TO MAKING FRIENDS

1~First impressions are most important

I stand over the ledge of the cliff looking out to find this foretold house. Shockingly, it was there. Far out in plain sight. There was no activity outside and when I teleported to where the house was, there was no footprints outside and the windows did not shine any light.

I stood infront of the door unsure whether to even knock or not. In the end I do. It felt like the perfect opportunity to try a knock-knock joke but that might weird them out.

"anybody home?"

The sound of pots clinking and thumping was heard. But no one opened the door. If it was a monster they would have opened the door or at least said something like "no one's here". But they didn't say anything. Some weird is going on here.

"it's nothing but a protocol check-in my friend. if you're not doing anything wrong then there is nothing you should be afraid of." I say impatiently. Still no one answered.

So I did a questionable thing. I looked through the window. There was no one in sight. So I put my hood up and teleported inside. Karma instantly struck me, literally.

*THUNGGG* A hard material hits the back of my head making me fall forward in pain. "oww!" A few swears slipped from my mouth as I rubbed my skull. "what the hell!?"

"Uuh sorry, I didn't mean for that to be so hard." A feminine voice apologized. If my ears weren't ringing I would say that her voice was sweet and soothing.

I turn around so that I was sitting on the floor towards her. "yeah, sorry for-"

"AAHHH WALKING SKELETON!"

*THUNGGG*

Y/n's POV

Oh no, oh no. What have I done. . .

I look down at the knocked out skeleton. I didn't mean to hit him. It just sort of happened. I saw something that is supposed to be only inside of the human body and freaked out.

What if this guy is the grim reaper!? He did knock on my door!! Am I going to H E double hockey sticks!!??

Or what if he's dead!? Well, more dead. . . . In a panicked state I place my crutches to the side and use the couch to keep me up. Then I grab the guys arm with my free one and pick him up.

"Huh, he's heavier than he looks." I say out loud. I sling his arm over my shoulder and once he is steady I push him into a closet that was nearby and slam the door shut.

"Okay. I have a skeleton in my closet. I have a skeleton in my closet." I breathe. Then revel at the irony and laugh. "Wow! I have a skeleton. in. my closet! That takes the saying to a whole other level." I lean against the closet door.

I stop when I realize that I am laughing at a knocked out living being. "What am I gonna do!? Billy do you have any idea!?" I ask my stuffed animal that is sitting on the couch. It stayed silent.

"Ha that's a perfect idea! I'll put him on the couch until he wakes up! Thanks Billy!" I grab my crutches and turn over to the closet door. When I open it, the guy immediately falls onto me. He was still out. I push him off me to the side, get up and drag him over to the couch by the leg. His pink slippers slipped off, I'll have to get them back after.

I exhale exhausted and then haul him onto it. His legs were still hanging on the floor so I pull them up as well. I take a look at the knocked out skeleton. Now that I observe him I notice his attire. A dark blue hoodie with a white shirt underneath. Black basketball shorts with a white stripe on each side, and then his pink slippers that I currently hold with my hands and then place them neatly beside him. I then study his face. He looked like a skeleton but I could tell that there are differences. For example he had eyelids.

His head wasn't swelling or anything but I could tell where I hit him. The front of the head and the back of the head. Or skull I guess you could say.

I go outside and grab some ice packs I made. I always bump into stuff so they come in handy. I bring two over and place one on top and the other as a pillow. I placed a cloth in between them too so it wouldn't be too cold.

I sat on a chair opposite of the couch and relaxed. Ugh what a weird day.

Timeskip ________________

About half an hour later he starts to stir and groan in pain. "what kind of hangover is this? it feels like someone hit me with a frying pan." His voice was deep and smooth like charcoal.

That's because someone did ya moron. "So, you finally wake up." I say coldly. For all I know he came here to kill me. I don't trust him so I won't act nice.

"did you really have to knock me out?" He said in the same tone as me. He continued to look down infront of him as he tries to nullify the pain.

"Did you really have to break in to my home?" I say even harsher.

He turns his head to me. "i wouldn't have had to it if you had answered the do-" He stops and stares at me wide eyed.

"What's wrong? Is there something wrong with the way I look?" I raise an eyebrow sternly.

"no . . . - i mean! you are. . . you're a human." His skull turns a deeper color.

"Really I did not know that!? I have been living a lie!" I say dramatically. "Anyway I presume you will capture me?" I glare at him.

"it is my job to notify anyone if i see a human."

"Oh really? Then don't let me slow you down. Why don't you leave and go tell your monster friends and I stay here and enjoy my final moments in this house alone." I smile "sweetly".

He sighs a little annoyed. "How long have you been here?"

"Mmm. Asking the prisoner questions? Hasn't anyone told you that is dangerous? You wouldn't want to get attached do you?"

"i am only asking one question." He looks irritated.

"If it's only one. To tell you the truth, I am not sure. Time has been a blur here for me."

"well do you know what year you fell down?"

"What happened to one question?" I smirk. "I do, 200X." I answer.

"ten years ago. . ." He breathes in shock.

"Ten years, has it really been that long."

"so, you have been here alone? all this time?"

He is actually having a conversation with me. "Yeah, basically." I play with the ends of my hair. Then a cell phone rings from his pocket. He brings it out and picks it up. The phone looks nothing like the phones I remember.

"yeah? sorry i went to go check some house. a monster said a human might be there." I stiffen in fear. I could hear a voice scream. "Is there one there!?"

The skeleton looks at me. His permanent smile softens. "no. there was no human. no one lives here. can you pass that info around for me?" He said some extra things then hung up the phone.

"Why?" I ask him in disbelief. He grins and holds up the ice pack. "my way of saying sorry. thanks for taking care of me while i was unconscious." He makes his way to the door and opens it.

"by the way, the name's sans. sans the skeleton." He winks and leaves the house closing the door behind him.

I don't know if I trust him, but keeping my existence secret?

That I strangely do trust.

2~Learn their name

I had finished taking a shower and put on some fresh clothes. It is the next day after the skeleton incident. Sans was his name. I don't know what to think of him he's like an enigma. Although I highly doubt I will ever see him again.

I come out of the bathroom and enter my bedroom and fix the bed. Once the bed looked made I grabbed some of the books that I left on the floor and walked out into the living room to put them away.

"sup." A voice said.

"Hey." I said calmly then I drop my books startled and turned to the source of the voice. It was the Sans guy again. He was sitting on my couch and eating a cookie from a plate that I left there earlier for myself. He acted as if he owned the place. "What are you doing here." I ask sternly.

"you know these are really good. did you make them yourself?" He ignore me and takes another bite of the cookie.

"Answer. The. Question." I place a hand on my hip.

He looks at me. His eyes widen in concern. "what happened to your right leg."

"It ran away." I reply bluntly. Really he is just noticing this now?

"i came here because i thought you would like the company. that and i wouldn't mind getting to know you." He sounds genuine.

"As long as you don't bother me, you can stay here." I pick up the books from the floor.

"do you need help?"

"I have been doing this on my own for more than half of my life, I don't need anyone's help."

He remains silent and grabs another bunch of my cookies. Looks like I will have to bake for two from now on.

While I don't entirely trust him. I somewhat appreciate his company. I grabbed a book that I have been currently reading, sit on the seat opposite of him and completely ignored his presence while I got immersed in the words of the book.

I here him shuffle on the couch. Then I feel a soft tap on the cover of the book. The sound and push told me that it was the skeleton monster who tapped it. "knock, knock."

"Who's there. . ." I look over the book, curious to his incoming joke.

"wanda."

"Wanda who."

"wanda put the book down and talk with me?"

I couldn't help but laugh at his joke. The book covered the majority of my face from his view. I think my laugh encouraged him to try a few more jokes.

"so wanna know why skeleton's are so calm?"

"Uuhh sure?"

"it's because nothing can get under their skin."

I couldn't help but laugh again. Still hidden behind the book. This repeated for a few more times. His jokes got dumber and dumber but they would only make me laugh more. Eventually I got hungry and I got up from the seat and headed towards the small kitchen.

I had already cooked in the morning because I was bored so all I had to do was heat up the dish. He ate some cookies earlier but it felt wrong to make something for myself and not give him anything. So I served two dishes. I couldn't bring them over though. It was a hot stew and I did not want to spill that over myself and the floor.

"If you're hungry you can have this plate." I point to the second bowl.

He looked like he didn't expect me to offer him anything. "Don't worry it's not poisoned." I state.

"not that it would effect me. it will go right through me." He winks. I was taking a spoonful of food when he said the joke. I ended chocking on said food as I tried not to laugh.

The dish was modest, made of simple ingredients. It wasn't bland tasting but it wasn't full of flavor either. A perfect balance.

Sans took the seat across from me behind the counter top. "you know, you still haven't told me your name." He looks up from the dish and I do the same. He is right. I haven't revealed my name to him. That's because I didn't really trust him. But he likes puns and bad jokes. Maybe he isn't so bad. I think it over quietly and then make my decision.

"It's y/n."

"pardon?"

"Did I stutter?"

"oh that's your name. sorry i didn't notice." He laughs at himself. "y/n huh? that's a nice name."

Hearing someone say my name again felt strange. It gave me a fluttery feeling inside my stomach. Is that what people call butterflies? And more importantly, why butterflies?

3~Find common interests

Sans' POV

I found this book in the library. Sorry, librarby. It was a book on how to make friends. I came across it a few weeks ago and I always believed a book like that is for losers.

Guess I'm the loser now.

I checked it out from the librarby because I have never actually made a friend on my own merit. Everyone would come up to me and initiate the conversation. Not the other way around.

But it isn't like that this time. I am the one who wants to be friends with y/n. And it's obvious that she does not know how to socialize with others

While I reference the book I see that so far I am doing a good job. First impression? That was a mess. Knowing each other's name? That worked out better.

Finding common interests. . . Well she liked my jokes. But what else? I guess I'll try that out tomorrow.

It says here that, "By finding things that you both like. A greater bond could form. It can also create a conversation where both parties find it easier to talk to eachother." I don't know why but I get the feeling a loner wrote this book. (Don't call me out!)

The next day, I gave the book's advice a shot. Y/n, the human I only met two days ago was reading a book when I showed up. Like last time, my sudden appearance startled her. She frowned 'upset' with me.

"you like to read?"

"Yeah, it helps time pass quicker to my inevitable demise."

I let her slightly depressing reply slide and ask, "do you have any recommendations?" Her eyes instantly sparkle like a million pieces of glitter. It was mesmerizing to watch.

"Many! But um, what genre do you like?"

"sci-fi is a favorite. but i'm open to any."

She got off the couch. Went over a bookshelf and somehow carried a large stack of books over. She plopped them onto the coffee table between us and sat down. She dropped her crutches to the side.

"These are all the sci-fi books I have read that I greatly enjoyed. So which one catches you attention first." She smiles brightly. That was the first time I saw her smile.

4~Get to know them

All right that should be simple enough.

That's what I thought 4 hours ago.

Don't get me wrong y/n is nice. She is great to be around. But she doesn't like to talk about herself. In the end I ended up sharing more than her. The simple stuff. I told her about my brother, about a few of the people I know, my day to day life, my hobbies.

She did share one thing. It was how she used to live near the beach and loved to go find seashells in the morning. She looked serene while she reminisced back.

I tried to get her to open up more but she clammed up after sharing that story. It makes me wonder if something happened to her in the surface that caused her to build up this wall. It couldn't have been good that's for shore.

(I. . . Really need to stop making puns in my head.)

Even if I haven't been able to learn much of her background I do know her better. After spending time with her for three weeks, I now have an idea of what her personality is like. Her real personality.

Like I said y/n is reserved. She doesn't smile much. The exceptions to that is when I tell her my jokes or when she talks about books. When she does smile, there is always something covering it. A book, her hand, a blanket. It's like she is afraid to show her smile.

I have seen it once already. It was . . . Well the best word for it would be beautiful. Now I am not getting a crush on her! All I'm saying is that her smile was nice and it confuses me why she hides it. I want us to be friends. Just friends. Although I won't deny that she is pretty. Lovely (e/c) eyes and glittery (s/c) skin.

Nope, nope not happening. She is just a friend.

I was currently telling her one of my jokes. "so then i told my brother, a pun is not completely matured until it is full groan. and to make it even better, he groaned at it." She burst into a fit of laughter behind a fluffy blanket. Her laugh was like the sound of sleigh bells.

Every time she laughed, dozens of new jokes would pop into my head. An endless cycle of jokes and laughter.

"why do you hide your smile." I bring up the courage to ask.

"Hmm? Oh I didn't even notice I was doing that." She placed the blanket down. Her smile fell with it.

"okay give me your hands."

"Unlike you, my hands can not be detached." She took it literally.

"no i mean place your hands onto mine."

"Okay?" She places her hands on top of mine confused. Her hands were soft and a little frail. This is the first time there has ever been any physical touch between us.

"Soooo, now what?"

"now . . . what did the left shoe say to the right shoe?"

She shrugged.

"we are solemates."

She moves her head down and laughs. "hey your cheating!" She then moved her head back up. Her smile lit up the room. "Why did you say that so seriously? Ahahaha!"

Ever since then, while still rare, She began to not cover her smile.

5~Be there for them

It's been about two months now. Two months since I first met y/n. Papyrus has started to catch onto my antics. He'd ask me where I kept disappearing off to.

The old lady behind the door even asked me if something had been going on. She said that the way I speak had become a lot more "giddy". Grillby said that he has noticed me change a bit too. I don't understand what they mean by that.

I have had to renew the friend book twice now. I keep going back to it to see what else I could be missing. It appears that I have completed everything except for one.

"Be there for them: If they ever need some sort of comfort or help be willing to help them sort out their problems."

Y/n is so insistent to do stuff herself I haven't had the chance to help her with anything. And I haven't seen her frustrated or sad so I haven't been any emotional support yet.

I placed the book back on my workshop table and teleported over to her place. I go over there between 10 a.m- 12 p.m every day.

When I make it inside I see her in the kitchen extremely focused on what she is cooking. "I had a dream about eating my (f/f) so I am going to make it."

"ah yes the dream food. that happens to me too often." I get a text from Papyrus. It stated, "DON'T FORGET TO PICK UP YOUR SOCK TODAY!" I left a sock on the floor this morning. He has started leaving posted notes. I think I will keep the sock there to see how far it can escalate.

The sound of a small scream and crash made me throw my phone to the side. Y/n looked down at her cutting board and then switched over to the sink. The water flowed down when she twisted the knob. I was confused and scared as to what happened. Then I see the red on her hands.

I go up to her. There was a lot of red. It was splattered on the cutting board and it was painted on the knife. The red dyed the water that flowed past her hand. I stood there unsure of what to do. I have read books, I have seen movies but I have never actually seen blood in real life.

I can bleed. But it's not the same as human blood. Not at all.

"oh asgore, what happened!"

"Huh? Oh, my hand slipped and it got cut. It's no biggy." She applies pressure to the wound. The cut was in between her thumb and index finger and ran along her palm.

"that doesn't look like it's no biggy. let me see." I stand next to her and she holds her hand out hesitantly. The cut was deep. I had an idea.

"rinse your hand one more time and then apply pressure with something. . ." I look around for some sort of cloth. She grabs a clean cloth and placed it on the cut with so much pressure her knuckles turned a lighter color.

I wrap one arm around her torso and the other under her leg. "Sans! What are doing?"

"huh you're lighter than i thought."

"What are you trying to say?" She cocks her eyebrow.

"nothing. it's simply an observation." In a few steps we reach the couch and I place her down next to me. I guide her to place her wounded hand on my lap. The cloth draped onto my lap so my shorts wouldn't stain. A blue and yellow light shines from my own hand that hovers over the cut.

During the process Y/n does not look at her hand. She gazes at me. I tried my best to act natural. Her gaze is so piercing. . . full of curiosity and admiration. I think the second one might be admiration. Why else might her eyes twinkle like the gems in waterfall. My face felt hot and my hands started to sweat a bit. I really hope she doesn't notice.

I finished a minute later. The cut was still raw and open, but it was no longer bleeding. "that's the best i can do. i am not exactly experienced with this. do you have any bandages?"

She nods. "They are under the coffee table." I take them out. She must get hurt often if it's so out in the open. Or maybe she likes to keep the first aid within reach.

When I take the bandage out, y/n snatches it from my hand adamant to do it herself. She failed to tie it and eventually gives up and let's me do it for her. "Thank you. I feel like you are the one always helping me out."

"what are you talking about? you are the on that gives me free food and let's me stay here."

She falls silent and looks to the crutches that lay on the kitchen floor. "oh let me get that for you." I get up and bring them over to her. She takes them from my grasp. Our fingers grazed eachother softly. I slightly wanted for that touch to last longer.

She gets up with the crutches as her aid and moved over to the opposite side of the couch. Always, trying to maintain distance. "There goes my plans for lunch." She sits down. I then get an idea.

"wait here." She raised her eyebrow but still nodded agreeing. I teleport quickly to Grillby's and ordered a double order of hamburger and fries. I throw in a bottle of ketchup and a cold drink. The order went to my tab and I take the food back to her place. "how about some hamburgers for lunch?" I hold out the paper bags.

Her mood brightens at the sight and smell. "Wow! You guys have fast food here!?"

"yup." I pop the p.

I give her, her food and we ate on the couch. The coffee table held our drinks and extra stuff. I bring out the bottle. "Isn't that a little bit too much ketchup? I mean we already have these." She laughs and holds out the smaller packets.

"you can never have too much." I open it and drink from the bottle. Y/n's stares at me confused yet fascinated.

"Does it taste good?"

"i think so." I shrug. "wanna try?" I hold the bottle out. She takes the bottle, our fingers touch again and it makes me feel all tingly inside. She brought the bottle to her mouth and then I realize something. Won't this be an indirect kiss?

I feel flustered and embarrassed at the thought. I act completely on instinct and grab the bottle from her. But I squeezed the bottle too hard and ketchup squirts onto her face.

I stand still in shock. I felt bad but at the same time I tried my hardest not too laugh. She grabs a napkin and cleans her face. "So that's how you want to play huh?" She asks playfully.

"no, i didn't mean that on purpose." I laugh. Then I feel the bottle get snatched from my hands. She holds out towards me and does the same thing I did with the bottle. I feel the cold ketchup touch my face. Now she is the one laughing.

"jokes on you, i could bathe in this stuff if i wanted to." I use my finger to scoop the ketchup off my face and lick it off. I'm not letting this go to waste.

"Sans you missed a spot."

"huh where?" I use a napkin and clean my whole face.

"Nope you still missed it. To your right on your cheek bone." I try again but she says I keep missing it.

"Ugh let me get it." She grabs a napkin and leans over. She was so close I could feel her breath. Dammit, why do I get so nervous around her? She wipes where she saw the spot and then moved back.

"Sans?" She calls me name.

"y-yeah!?" I tense.

"Thank you for being my friend." She smiles.

"no problem." Friends. . . That was my goal. And yet, why do I feel a little disappointed when she said it?

Extra: Do you have a crush?

I was flipping through the friend book because I was bored. I rarely look at it anymore. I should go return it. Then one of the last pages caught my attention.

"How to know if you develop a crush: Sometimes a friendship might not be the only thing that develops. Here is how you can find out if you have a crush."

A crush huh? Like I am going to let a book tell me how I am supposed to feel. And yet I still read on.

I realized something at that moment.

Maybe I do have feelings for y/n.

Not in the friend way but in a romantic way. I couldn't help but wonder if that was even okay?

I mean she is human. A different race from me. There is no laws stating that it's prohibited. And I'm sure there has been relationships between humans and monsters in the past. But what about today?

Today it's so tense between the two races. Y/n even shared to me that human's don't even know that we exist.

I don't know what to do. For the next few days, I tried to dismiss these feelings. I tried to get over her before my feelings get too deep. It only had the opposite effect.

So then I made up my mind. Screw it. Screw what other monsters or humans could potentially think. My feelings won't change. The moment I realized I like her, I was already in too deep.

GUIDE TO ROMANCING YOUR CRUSH

1~Be subtle

(Yup Sans borrowed a different book XD)

Y/n's POV

It has been around four months since Sans and I met. At least that is what he told me. At first I didn't exactly favor his company. He was rather annoying at times when he would randomly appear. Now I am more accustomed to that and I look forward to him showing up.

I'm not sure why but lately I feel a little fluttery when he is here. I have read many, many romance books to know where my feelings may possibly be going. For the time being though, I will ignore them. I don't know him well enough to even be sure that my feelings are real.

Today when he showed up he was acting a little . . . different. I can't put my finger on it but I know something has changed.

"woah why is it so cold in here." Sans notices the drop of temperature in the house.

"My fire place won't work." I poke my head out of the bundle of blankets.

"isn't it a traditional fire place?"

"Yes, but it won't work."

"a fire place, that you can light up yourself. doesn't work?" Sans smiles teasingly.

"Yes."

"well why don't you come over here? you can use me as a blanket-"

"What? Can you repeat that?"

"i-i said you can use my blanket." He faces away from me. I swear he said something else. Must have been my imagination.

"O-oh that's okay. I'm good with the blankets I have. You can use them for yourself." My face felt very hot.

"right. . ." He stiffly takes a seat. "sooo, what do you want to do?"

"Not sure. . . Want to come explore the woods with me? I can show you around? Everything will be cold either way."

"show me around the underground? are you asking me out?"

"Wha- no!"

"cool down. i'm just messing with you." He winks.

In the end we do go outside. I put on a warmer set of clothing. We walk out the house. "are you having trouble using the crutches in the snow?" Sans looks down at my legs.

"I used to, but I am a master at this now." He nods. His smile felt slightly endearing. I like his smile. It may be permanent but I can now tell the difference between each emotion.

I lead him down southwest to one of my favorite oddities of this already strange underground.

"So you have never been down here before?"

"nope." He kicked a pinecone of some sort while he walked. Eventually he missed and had to abandon it. He notices that I am staring at him and then acts like he is super sad at the loss of the pinecone. I laugh at him.

We make it to a clearing, a clearing full of weird looking mushrooms. They were blue and slightly glowy. They ranged in size from really small to as tall as me.

"huh, never seen these guys before."

"You haven't!?"

"i've seen smaller mushrooms. and they look slightly different. hey this one kinda looks like you." He points at at a oddly shaped mushroom that does slightly resemble my figure.

"Well. . . That one looks like you." I look around and then point to a mushroom that was lazily leaning against a tree.

"no i don't see it." Sans shrugs confused and then winks at me. I roll my eyes in response. "so do these have a name yet?"

"I don't know if any monster has named them or recorded the name. But if not, I have already." I cross my arms proudly.

"really? so what are they called." Sans raises ome of his brow bones.

"I call them Eat-me Shrooms."

"uh i'm pretty sure they are not edible. that's a deceptive name."

"I am aware. But they remind me of the mushrooms in Alice in Wonderland and wonder-shrooms sounded kinda weird."

"i think i like the second one better."

"I'll let you make the choice of which one is better then. I've never been particularly good with names." I grumble. "Oh try sitting on one!"

"why?"

"Because they are super squishy!" I squeal and lay against one of them. Sans first pokes one and then shrugs and lays against one too.

"you're right they are pretty comfy. i'll make sure to come here more often." He closes his eyes. I soon realize he might fall asleep. I force myself up and go over to him.

"C'mon, I don't want to stay here all day." I try to pull him up but he was stubborn. "Sans!"

"i'm to lazy to get up. how about you join me instead." He opens one eye lazily.

"No, I want to show you some things." I try to pull him up. Suddenly my foot slips on the snow and I fall right on top of him. My head landed right above his shoulder so my face squished against the mushroom.

"falling for me already y/n?" He teases. My face heated up and I use my hands to press myself up, they were on his chest. "Yeah right." I scoff and get off him.

He had a triumphant smile on his face. One that kind of made me want to slap it off with a pillow. We walked farther away from the mushrooms. The mushrooms were most likely the strangest thing down here. Everything else was pretty plain looking. Yet Sans seemed to enjoy it no matter how uninteresting the scenery was.

I stopped and looked out a large clearing. This clearing was across from the house. Pretty far out but the house was still within sight. Sans continued walking forward and I abruptly stop him. "Careful!" I pull him back. He stumbles a bit and then regains his balance. "The lake is under there."

"a lake?" He asks.

"Yeah I found out about it the hard way. A few years back the floor cracked and I nearly fell."

". . . ice down here doesn't easily break." He enters his "scientist mode". He taps the edge of where the lake starts lightly and it cracks after the second tap. He steps back a bit and watches as the cracks travel farther out. He whispered a few things but they were so complex that I could not understand what they meant.

After a bit we both took a seat on the snowy ground and leaned against a tree. The snow felt cold underneath me but it was a nice cold. "This might be a morbid thought, but I consider drowning to be the worst way to die."

He said nothing only looked my way. "It's not painful but at the same time it is. It takes a while for you to truly die too. To fall into an icy lake would probably be worse. It would be really cold and you wouldn't be able to get out because there will be an icy ceiling closing you in. A scary and cold way to die."

"are you afraid of the water?"

"Hmm? No not really. I like the water, I like the beach and pool. But, I guess I do tend to get really scared if it feels to deep or if the waves are too rough. In this case. The sealed ice is what scares me."

"not very ice thoughts huh?"

"No they- Seriously!?" I shove him lightly.

"i couldn't help it. there's snow way i would pass up the chance at a pun."

"I know." I sigh in defeat. Sans was free for the rest of the day so he stayed over that entire time.

He pulled out a laptop of some sort and places it on the coffee table. He said he wanted to show me his favorite movie. I thought it would be something like The Matrix or a comedy movie but instead it was a rather charming animated movie. It was about a green ogre who fell in love with a princess.

Sans seems to have watched the movie so much that he would recite what the people were going to say right before they said it. I would make fun of him by telling him that the villain slightly looked like him. He would get 'angry' at me.

Overall, this was a really good day.

2~Give them a gift

Sans' POV

"ALRIGHT SPIT IT OUT." Papyrus furrows his brow bones with his fists on his hip bones.

"spit what out?" I lazily flip through the T.V channels. There was nothing but Mettaton related programs on. Papyrus gets so annoyed that he snatches the remote from my hand and turns off the T.V.

"I AM TALKING ABOUT YOUR WEIRD ANTICS. YOU RANDOMLY DISAPPEAR DURING THE DAY! YOU ARE BARELY AT YOUR STATION OR AT ANY OF YOUR OTHER JOBS FOR THAT MATTER! I EVEN WENT TO GRILLBY'S! GRILLBY'S!! TO TRY TO SEE IF THAT IS WHERE YOU GO AND APPARENTLY, YOU ONLY GO THERE FOR YOUR LATE NIGHT ESCAPADES! UNLESS YOU HAVE A GIRLFRIEND, WHICH I DOUBT! YOU BETTER HAVE A GOOD EXPLANATION FOR THIS." He finishes his rant.

"i don't have a girlfriend."

"AS I THOUGHT."

"but she-"

"SHE!? WAIT A MINUTE, ARE YOU BY ANY CHANCE TRYING TO WOO HER SO THAT SHE BECOMES YOUR GIRLFRIEND?" Papyrus asks, already invested in my private life.

"well, i mean. . . "

"Sans you have a crush!?" We hear another voice. It was Undyne. Who would usually come here only in the morning to train Papyrus. But she now comes here daily because she and Papyrus are now the best of friends.

"crush . . . i don't have any romantic feelings for anyone." I deny their accusations.

"Tell that to your blushing face!" Undyne mocks. "C'mon let us help you! You don't need to tell us who she is or the whole story for advice!" Both she and Papyrus sit intently on the floor like two children waiting to listen to a story.

I think about it for a bit. I could use the help, I don't know the slightest thing for this stuff. And they must obviously think I have feelings for a monster so I think I might be in the clear.

"okay, so there is this girl i like. i met her about a few months ago. at first i wanted her and i to be good friends but, things have gotten a little. . ."

"Tense!?" Undyne smirks.

"yeah. . .that. . . i recently realized i like her, but i don't know how to pursue for her affection."

"SO THAT'S WHY YOU LEAVE ALL THE TIME. YOU GO TO HANG OUT WITH HER!!" Papyrus looked extremely happy. "NYEHEHE! I CAN'T BELIEVE IT! MY BROTHER HAS A LOVE LIFE!"

"Okay so have you tried hinting your feelings!? Like flirting!?" Undyne asks.

"um. . .i guess. she doesn't seem to notice my advances i think. or maybe she does, i don't know." Its so weird to talk about these things to other people.

"WHY DON'T YOU JUST ASK HER OUT ON A DATE?"

"It's not that simple Papyrus! His friendship with her could be ruined!" Undyne reasons. "How about you try giving her something!"

"a gift?"

"Yeah, something meaningful and romantic! Depending on how she reacts to it, it will tell you how she might feel!"

"that's. . . actually a good idea. and here i thought you would tell me to go force her to like me or something weird like that."

"What kind of image do you have of me punk!?" Undyne tries to pick a fight.

"exactly the image you are showing right now." I say bluntly.

And so over the next few days, I tried to figure out what I could get her. A book while nice, felt too generic. I didn't know what I could get her. That was until I came to an epiphany.

Y/n's POV

The day was actually quiet. Sans hasn't shown up today. He said yesterday that his brother has gotten tired of him laying around so now he is stuck doing twice the work. Don't know if that was a good decision because now Sans will probably do twice the amount of breaks.

It feels empty when he is not here. I never realized how alone I felt until now. I do hope he shows up soon. . .

Wait why am I so concerned about him showing up? He has got a life outside of just seeing me. And it's not like I am his girlfriend or anything.

"Girlfriend. . .The idea actually sounds kinda nice." I sigh. I then mentally slap myself.

"W-what am I thinking! There is no way Sans and I could be together! I like him as a friend and that is all it will ever be. We could never be together. He is a monster. . . . " I sigh sadly.

". . .A-and how can a monster. . . ever fall in love with a human. A human like me." I layed on the couch and spent the rest of my day in my mind. Sans didn't show up that day.

Sans' POV

Okay, you got this Sans. I hold onto the gift box nervously. I stand about few inches from y/n's door. I bring my hand up to the door and then hesitate.

Oh who am I kidding, I don't got this!

I pace back and forth. Then I hear y/n's voice. Most likely talking to herself to push away the silence. I wouldn't have paid attention until I hear my name.

"W-what am I thinking! There is no way Sans and I could be together! I like him as a friend and that is all it will ever be. We could never be together. He is a monster. . . . " I can't help but stand there in shock. Y/n she- doesn't like me romantically. Does this mean I have no chance with her? Was all the hope I had truly for nothing.

I look down at the wrapped box. I notice something drip onto it. It was wet. Am I- crying? I touch under my eyes. My hand was wet. I couldn't stand being there anymore. So I teleported away back into my secret workshop.

I need to get it together. I wipe the tears away. Every thing will be fine. Y/n doesn't know that I over heard her. I can just pretend that there was nothing between us and we can stay as friends. I can still give her the gift as a friendly gesture. I try to reason.

But that only made me frustrated. I threw the box across the room with so much force, the item most likely broke into pieces. I am an idiot. A stupid, lazy, idiot.

She is right. There is no possible way we could be together. She is human. I am a monster. How could she ever fall in love with some like me. How could I think I had such a chance.

I have never wished so much that I wasn't born a monster until this moment.

I slam my head onto the counter and stayed there until the pain of the secret rejection subsided. I felt a little numb afterwords but it was bearable. All I need to do is carry my smile to my eyes and no one will notice.

I teleport to my sentry station and spot Papyrus there. He agreed to fill in my shift while I went to give y/n the gift.

"SO HOW DID IT GO? DID THE LADY MONSTER LIKE IT?" He asks eager to know what happened.

I let me mask down for this one moment. "No it. . . It didn't work out."

"OHH. . . DON'T- . . . DON'T TAKE IT TO YOUR NON-EXISTENT HEART SANS. IF SHE REJECTED YOU THEN SHE DID NOT DESERVE YOUR AFFECTION!"

That only made me even more sad. Papyrus took notice of this. "YOU KNOW WHAT? DON'T GIVE UP!"

"huh?"

"DON'T GIVE UP ON PURSUING HER. SHE MAY HAVE REJECTED YOU ONCE BUT THINGS WILL WORK OUT! SHE IS THE ONE!" Papyrus encourages.

His words do make me feel better. But I write them off. I don't want any false hope, not again. "how do you know that?"

"I DON'T KNOW, IT'S JUST A FEELING. AND YOU KNOW THAT MY FEELINGS ARE ALWAYS CORRECT! I GOT TO GO PATROL FURTHER UP NOW. IF YOU NEED ANYTHING SCREAM FOR ME OKAY?"

"k."

He sprinted towards the direction of Snowdin and I looked around. Maybe I should go tall with the old lady behind the door. That might help me forget about my problems for a while. I was about to get to the door when I notice the heavy stone door open. I quickly teleport behind a tree and peek over to see who was the one to walk out. Could it be the old lady?

No. It wasn't. It was another human. I was sure they were a human. They were shorter and younger looking then y/n, so they must be a child. When I saw them my mind immediately went to capturing them. If they are captured y/n won't have to hide anymore, we can all be free. Then I remember-

The promise. . . A promise that I don't want to break.

So I did what the promise is. I followed them so that they wouldn't get hurt. I am pretty sure they could hear me and I could tell they were gettin nervous.

Hmmm. . . I do I have a whoopee cushion with me. I should introduce myself with the ol' whoopee cushion in the hand trick. I walk up behind them and say. "Human. Don't you know how to greet an new pal? Turn around and shake my hand."

(Ngl if anyone where to say that to me I would. 🏃‍♂️💨)

The human turned around and shook my hand. A handshake that would forever change my life to the worst.

Ever since that day, things have only spiraled down. I did not see these resets coming. I never imagined my life would go like this. The day would reset on the same day I were to overhear y/n's monologue. I never bothered to visit at that time. It helped me pretend that I never overheard it. Which is partly true when it comes to the resets.

Y/n's present layed forgotten in my secret lab and I was so busy with managing my sanity that I put my feelings for her in the back of my mind. That didn't mean I wasn't over her, I swear my feelings only grew while I relived the same days. Y/n was the only constant thing throughout everything. Even when there was chaos, when everyone I loved died. She was always there with her smile. Unaware of what happened around her.

And I was okay with that. Because I don't know what I would do if she was aware too. If she ever got hurt or worse. She . . . Her home. . . Was my sanctuary.

My anchor.

Before the barrier was broken.
Y/n's POV

Sans was doing some tinkering in his secret lab. He let me hang out here because he wanted to spend some time alone with me. I am not doing anything in particular myself. I am laying my head on an empty area of the desk, watching him do whatever sort of engineering that is and occasionally pass him a few things that just so happen to be next to me. I am not sure why but when I see him in such a focused state my heart flutters a bit.

After watching him rearrange the same chip for like the third time I get up and take a look around the lab. The more I know about this place then more mysterious it feels. I spot a corner full of junk and decide to organize it out of boredom. "Sans?"

"hmm?" He hums, not bothering to look away from his project.

"Can I organize this box?"

"yeah sure, don't break anything though. . ." He trails off and mumbles a few things to himself while his fingers continue to work on the machinery.

I take note of his request and look through it carefully. Wires, random screws and bolts, an expired bottle of ketchup? A dust bunny in the shape of a bunny, how did that even form? Old pictures of Sans and Papyrus, a blurred figure was in one of them. And a strange decorated box.

I organized the stuff in piles. Wires, bolts, things that should be thrown away, photos, and the box. Out of curiosity I pick up the box and inspect the outside of it. I notice a tag on it that said, "To: Y/n."

For me? Is this a present that he hid for the purpose of it being a surprise? Too curious to know what it is all about I call Sans' name.

"Sans?" He hums a reply again. "Why does this present have my name?" My question earns his attention.

"present? oh that one. . ." He turns back to the desk and was about to continue working until he suddenly sits up and stares at the box again. "oh. . .that. one." He didn't seem too happy to see it.

"Was I not supposed to find it?" I place it on the ground feeling guilty.

"what? no, no. i meant to give it to you a long time ago. but i. . . ended up changing my mind." He leans against the desk using it as support and rubs the back of his neck.

"Why?"

"i might have. . . overheard you talking to yourself. you said that you could never like me romantically. . . remember?" He said a little hurt. I try to think back, until I found the memory.

"You eavesdropped on me!? Oh Sans you left too early didn't you?"

"huh?"

"You must have not heard the end of it. I said that I could never be together with you romantically because I thought you would never fall in love with me. I thought that I was the only one who had these feelings." I rub the side of my arm.

He stares at me speechless and then slap his forehead. "Oh I'm such an idiot."

"No your not. I would have thought the same thing to if I eavesdropped on you saying that."

"And to think that we could have gotten together much earlier, if I just walked in and gave you the damm gift." He laughs to himself.

"At least this misunderstanding didn't come between us." I bring out the bright side.

"At least." He shakes his head. "Well now that we sorted it out why don't you open it?"

"Huh?" I look at him confused.

"The gift, open it. It shouldn't be broken since Frisk resets on that day." He laughs awkwardly.

"Okay?" I grab the box again and undo the ribbon holding it closed. I open the lid and see the last thing I expected in it. A beautiful conch shell, it was the size of my hand. I gasp in shock and hold it up to my eye level.

"I remember that you told me you used to go to the beach. So when I found this I thought it would be the perfect gift." Sans said.

I caressed it with my fingers feeling the outside shell. I then immediately hold it up to my ear. The sounds the shell made, instantly brought my mind to the surface and my mornings on the beach. The sound was so calming like the beating of the waves. I could almost feel the sand getting in between my toes and nearly taste the salty water on the tip of my tongue. Of course it was all in my imagination, in my memories. So clear and vivid.

Sans looked confused on my action. "hon, it's not a cell phone."

"I know that!" I return to reality. "Here, put it to whereever you can hear." I hand the shell to him.

"okay?" He does as I instructed and brings the shell to the side of his skull

"Do you hear that?"

"i hear something. . .but i can not describe it."

"The sound you hear happens to be eerily similar to the sound the waves make at the beach. So technically, you are listening to the ocean. Don't ask me how that works though. I know nothing on that." I explain. Sans looked mesmerized by the sound and information. He eventually moves the conch away from his ear.

"i changed my mind, i'm keeping this." He smirks.

"What! You can't do that! It's mine now you gave it to me!" I try to grab it from him. He moves his hand away from me.

"if you want it back then you need to find a way to get it back yourself."

"Fine!" I immediately press my lips to his teeth. He obviously didn't see it coming and looked surprised. He quickly melts into the passionate kiss. As I wrap one arm around his neck to pull him in closer. I use my free hand to grab the shell from his grasp and end the kiss. "Got it!" I smile triumphantly. Sans was still in a trance but soon regained his composure.

"that was a fair trade so i'm not complaining." He smirks.

I shake my head playfully. Then my phone starts to ring. It was Mettaton. I answer it.

"Hey Metta."

"Y/n it's a disaster! A complete and utter disaster!!" He cries dramatically. Sans obviously heard it because his semi disappointed expression turned into an annoyed one.

"Okay calm down, what's going on?" I say.

"You know the ring Sans gave you on valentines, the one you wanted me to have it cleaned?"

"Yeah, I wear it all the time?" I look at my currently naked finger.

"I lost it."

"What!?" I scream too the phone.

"Don't worry I will find it! Just please don't tell Sans about this! If he finds out it will finally give him a valid reason to kill me." He said mortified.

"don't tell me what?" Sans' places his head onto my shoulder.

"O-oh um hey Sansy." Mettaton's voice stutters. "It's nothing really, we are. . . Planning something secret for you. Can't tell you what or it will ruin the surprise! Wellsorrygottatgobye!!" Mettaton makes up an excuse and hangs up the phone. Sans didn't look convinced.

"okay?" mind telling me what's really going on?" His arms snake around my torso.

"Oh well look at the time! I should get going to help him out too!" I try to wiggle out of his grasp and run to the door. I was about to open it when two skeletal hands stop me.

"leaving already ~" His arms corner me to the door.

"Yes now if you'll excuse me." I open the door and dip to the side. Sans falls to the snowy ground.

"SANS! SO THAT'S WHERE YOU HAVE BEEN HIDING ALL DAY! C'MON WE MUST GO AND COMPLETE OUR DAILY DUTIES AS SENTRIES." Papyrus stomped over to the fallen over Sans, picked him up by the hood of his hoodie and dragged him off. I could hear Sans complain and call my name out. I simply ignored him and whistled away to Mettaton's place.

Once I was out of their sight. I ran like a bear was hot on my heels. I can not believe the ring is lost!!!

3rd POV

In the end y/n and Mettaton found the ring but not without a price. The one who found it was Muffet. Y/n and Mettaton lost a third of their savings from buying it back from her. Even after she sold it at a discount!

Fun-fact: The mushroom place was where Flowey first attacked you in the story. The location was briefly mentioned in the chapter.

So yeah, what did you guys think? It was a lot more than just the meeting and I am really proud on how the chapter came out.

I noticed that I didn't give enough info on the Q&A on the A/n and if you are not following me then you are probably lost. Basically you can either ask the main cast any questions you'd like. And you can also ask me (the author) perhaps you are curious on how the story will go or how I got inspired for a certain character or plot line. If you do have questions comment them in the A/n so I can have them all together. If you are not interested then you can just ignore this and look forward to the other extras. (This will be the last time I say this so please don't get annoyed >^<)

Well see you soon~
