Happiness, the world is something I say every day but I hate it. What's the point of being happy if it gets taken from you any second? I'm genuinely concerned for the Hufflepuffs, how can they be happy and like everyone at the same time? That's why I like Hufflepuffs though, they make me feel like I'm a human.
I walked through the halls, boys stopping me to ask if I have a date to the ball, girls glaring at me. I say "no" because these boys deserve someone who likes them, which is not me. I got distracted by my thoughts when I got pulled by my elbow into an empty corridor.
"You're going to the ball with me" commanded Riddle
"Who said that? I didn't say such a thing" I said looking around
"Listen, you won't have to deal with boys asking you to the ball and I won't have to deal with girls asking me," he said as I considered it, there were still 4 weeks until the ball.
"Deal," I said holding out my hand
"Deal," he said smirking as he shook my hand
I just made a deal with the devil himself, I thought to myself as I walked away.
4 weeks later
Riddle was right, I didn't get any more invitations to the ball once they found out Riddle was escorting me, although I did get glared at by many girls.
"I can't believe you're going with him" mumbled Daphne as she slipped her dress on
"It's just a ball," I said
"It's probably our last ball" she whispered with tears in her eyes
"Daph, there isn't going to be a war" I lied, I knew one was going to happen just I didn't know when.
"Let's just go," she said heading towards the door, Daphne looked beautiful, she looked like a fairy.

I walked beside her as we headed down to the common room, where everyone was. I caught Riddle's eye as he stared at me in a way I have never seen him look at me. He was dressed in an all-black tux with a glass of whiskey in his hand, he sat the whiskey down and walked towards me.
"You look... different," he said as he slipped his arm through my arm
"You also look... different," I said smirking at him
People watched us as we walked to the dance floor, he put his arm around my waist while I put my hand on his shoulder. We stared into each other's eyes as we moved to the music, we glided across the dance floor as I felt eyes on us. Once the music ended we stepped off the dance floor and went to our table. We looked around and tried to guess how people's nights have gone so far. I looked at a girl with tears in her eyes trying to smile as she watched Seamus Finnigan dance with a girl,
"Her night is a 2/10, she has a crush on Finnigan but he's dancing with another girl so she's acting like she's fine," I said nodding my head to the girl as Riddle watched her
"Pathetic, how can you like someone that much?" He asked
"I don't know" I shrugged "I guess if you love them?"
"I don't even know what love is" he grumbled
"Me either" I mumbled, I never really thought about it but I've never loved anyone
"Dance?" He asked as he stood up and held out his hand
"My pleasure," I said as I took his hand and he led me to the dance floor, we laughed as we saw people stepping on their dance partners. The ball came to an end and we walked out,
"It wasn't that bad," I said curtsying
"Back at you," he said bowing before standing up
I woke up feeling drowsy, last night came back to me and it was decent. I looked around and got up for breakfast, today's Saturday. I walked down to breakfast and saw Daphne,
"Good morning," I said grabbing a piece of toast
"Where were you last night" she commanded
"I was with Riddle," I said eating
"Of course you were well I needed you," she said storming off
I walked over to Draco and asked him,
"What happened to her?" I asked
"Nothing" he mumbled, I saw dark circles under his eyes, I went to go check on Daphne, I heard loud crying in the girl's bathroom and went in there, I saw Daphne with her head in her knees crying.
"What's wrong?" I asked her rubbing her back
"He broke up with me," she said in between sobs
"Why?" I asked even though I knew why
Flashback to 2 weeks ago
Riddle, Draco, and I apparated to Malfoy Manor for a Death Eater meeting. We walked inside the dark chilling place that I once thought was where sunshine and daisies were born when I was a child. We sat down in our regular seats and the meeting began,
"Malfoy, I heard you have a distraction, you will break up with Ms. Greengrass by the ball or else harm will come to you and your family," said the Dark Lord with an evil smile on his face "Love makes you weak, and we don't except the weak," he said in a chilling voice that makes your spine shiver, I thought about how my best friend would be hurt and broken. I looked over at Draco and he had tears in his eyes but was looking down at his feet under the table,
"Meeting dismissed," the Dark Lord said before disappearing
End of Flashback
"He said I was distracting him, how could I possibly be a distraction?" She said crying into my shoulder
"Look at me," I said grabbing her cheeks "Don't let him get you down, I know who you are, your a beautiful strong independent woman who can rule the wizarding world without a man. Now show him that you don't need him" I said to her as I wiped her tears
"Your right," she said standing up "I will show him that I don't need him," she said hugging me
"And Daph," I said making her turn around "When the time comes you'll understand," I said as she looked at me confused then walked away
I walked out of the bathroom but ran into a hard chest,
"What was that all about?" Asked Riddle
"He broke up with her" I explained, his face remained the same
"Oh, well Slughorn wanted me to give you this," he said handing me an invitation to a dinner party, Slughorns Club
"Did you get one?" I asked, for some odd reason I wanted him to get one
"Yes," he said showing me his invitation, Riddle might not show up to class but he's very smart.
"I'll see you there," I said smiling at him, he smiled back at me.
What was that? Us being nice to each other, no way.
