"why'd you only call me when you're high?"

the school
"where are you dragging me!" faye giggled as allison continued pulling her to their destination
"somewhere nobody can see us," allison looked back with a smile causing faye to become curious and nervous with that response
"we literally have like 10 minutes left!"
allison continued on passing students who were talking or making their way to the lunchroom. pushing her way through people as faye apologized but didn't completely try to stopping her. soon they reached the football field with big bleachers on each side.
"what are we doing here?" faye raised a brow feeling her wrist be let go but allison continued on
"come on," the other girl encouraged going under the bleachers
although she was unsure (of many things, like if she was even allowed under there or what her friends would think, especially vinnie) faye continued on with a sigh
"here." allison smiled as if she was feeling accomplished due to their journey
allison placed the plaid button up (that was hanging on her waist) onto the floor, invitingly patting the space next to her for faye.
"so what now?" the girl smiled
"you ask a lot of questions, huh?" allison asked earning a shrug from faye "well i had something in mind." the girl reached into her pocket, revealing something that resembled a bag of candy with a certain green plant in the corner and other warnings
"are those- edibles? here?" faye scoffed
"only if you're comfortable with it." she responded simply
faye felt uneasy with the thought of getting caught, or how it would affect her for the first time. but at the same time, it'd be fun, and something to do. so, she took a breath and nodded to the girl who was sitting patiently next to her.
"okay so, you don't need much." allison started "and it's gonna take some time to kick in so you should be good for like a bit of your next period. you may be out of it during the last two though." she warned still unsure if including faye would be good for her or not
faye nodded along "right, right..."
"hold out your hand," faye obeyed and allison gave her few candies that looked like sour patch kids
faye popped them in her mouth all at once hearing a snickering sound next to her as she chewed the unfamiliar taste.
"what?" she asked curiously titling her head a bit as she looked to the side
"nothing, how's it taste?"
"like sour patch kids, but you can tell there's something about them. like you could tell something's wrong."
"wrong?" allison questioned
faye just shrugged and tried to lick the sugar off her palm.
"so, your parents don't care, that you-" faye stopped for a second trying to think of what would be good to say "do this, here?"
allison looked a bit bitter at the mention but simply shook her head, "i kind of do whatever i want. the school doesn't do shit and neither do my parents."
faye hummed, thinking of what that could be like.
"come on let's get you to your class."
"and you?"
"i'm gonna go to class, mom. just wanna do something first." allison reassured her

most of fourth period felt normal, faye even began to wonder if whatever she took wouldn't take affect, either now or ever.
but towards the end she felt herself struggling to pay attention. letting her mind drift further away from her, leaving her ready to giggle and start a conversation about strange questions like what would happen if the world stopped spinning.
instead she kept her thoughts to herself, feeling as what she would describe it as, light.
the class ended and her immediate thoughts were to meet her friends and finally find release from her thoughts.
lucky for her, they were standing near a classroom that was close enough for her to reach before giving up and wandering the halls.
"guys! i am so-" she began "i don't know how to describe it but i just feel..." she trailed off
vinnie raised a brow, brandon and kara gave a giggle as if they knew exactly what was going on, and selene looked clueless.
"are you high?" vinnie finally asked
faye giggled at this "shhh" she said loudly, "nobody can know. oh and, do you have food?"
selene saw allison walk out a bathroom blinking away tears and putting away what looked like eye drops.
"you, did you do this?" selene walked towards her while brandon, kara, and vinnie entertained faye
allison looked behind the girl, "that? no. i mean yeah but she said she was okay with it." she shrugged
"really? "she was okay with it" it's the middle of the day!" she semi-yelled, annoyed with the act
"look, i don't know how she acts when she's high. but i can give her eye drops if that's what you want." allison tried giving a slight laugh
"you know what- it's okay. we'll take care of it." selene finished with a scoff walking away as allison raised her hands in mock defeat
walking back, selene realized it was only vinnie and faye, vinnie holding a bag of cheez-its faye was eating out of while rambling.
"where's kara and brandon?" she asked catching their attention
"well brandon needed to talk to some teacher, and kara said she couldn't stand her all day, so." vinnie answered
"ugh i wanna go home. i don't wanna be here anymore." the girl complained leaning onto vinnie's side
selene looked at vinnie then faye.
"i have a test," selene said sincerely "i wish i could take you but i can't miss it."
selene looked at vinnie who wasn't really paying attention and snapped her fingers in front of him.
"don't you have a free period?"
"i mean yeah but-" he started
"no buts, take her. i don't want her getting in trouble." she decided
"but-"
"figure it out, babe." selene finished, pressing a kiss to his cheek and walking away
vinnie looked down at faye, her humming a song he honestly couldn't recognize.
he sighed before standing up taller, "come on faye."
"yay," she said quietly as they walked cautiously towards and exit

after driving in his car for some time and struggling to find faye's house successfully, he finally arrived with faye dozing in and out of consciousness in the passenger seat.
vinnie poked the girl softly, not wanting to disturb her but needing her to get into the house.
"come on, faye."
she groaned opening one eye at a time to see that they were there.
"walk me in?" she asked politely
"where are your parents?" he couldn't help but ask
"my mom is never home, and my brother's been on campus lately. you won't get me in trouble mister."
vinnie nodded, grabbing her bag for her and helping her get out the car. faye used a hand to reach for the bag and pull out the key for her home. after some time of struggling, vinnie helped her with that too. after getting inside, faye wasn't ready to let him leave yet. so, she instinctively grabbed his arm and led him up the stairs to her room.
vinnie stopped at the door while faye carried on comfortably kicking her shoes off, taking off some of her layers, and settling on the bed.
"you can come in, you know. i wouldn't have let you come up here if i didn't trust you."
vinnie didn't say anything but let himself in and sat in a purple fluffy chair that matched her room and stood a few feet from her bed. vinnie noticed faye was shifting on her bed, ending up in a position that left her looking up at her ceiling.
"i wish i could see the stars." faye began "or the planets, i don't know but space is really cool." she smiled happy to share her interest
"yeah i guess it is." he smiled, happy to see she was content being in his presence
"i also really love saturn, i couldn't tell you why but it's my favorite." she turned onto her side to face him still smiling but leaving her eyes closed this time
"i know."
faye opened one eye to look at him, "how would you know?"
"you told me. like during, uh, summer."
"oh." was all the girl said before closing her eyes again
vinnie sat for a bit but decided he should probably get back to school before the end of the day. he got up quietly then made his way to her bed in case she was sleep, and pulled a blanket over her in hopes that it would make her sleep more comfortable.
"get some rest, faye." he whispered walking out the room
faye opened her eyes as she heard him making his way down the stairs and out her house before a final shutting of the door.
he remembered...
