Prompt- Road trip with Reiner
Modern AU
Despite the yellow lines being small strips, the speed of the car made them blur together. The line continued in both directions, forever straight and unchanging.
"Your gonna hurt your neck."
You turned to look at your boyfriend Reiner. He sat in the drivers seat, glancing at you before looking back to the road.
"I'm young i'll be fine."
"Yeah you're gonna wish you listened to me when your 80."
"Yeah yeah, whatever."
You didn't want to listen to his advise but staring at a line was starting to get boring.
"How much longer?" He chuckled at your impatience.
"It's only been 2 hours doll. You'll die of boredom at this rate."
"Then help entertain me. Did we bring anything to do?"
"Not really. I have an idea though, how about you go to sleep and in a couple hours, or when you wake up, we'll stop at a diner or something for dinner. Sound good?"
You nodded reluctantly, despite your chronic boredom, you didn't want to sleep. After pulling a blanket and pillow out of the back row and reclining your seat, you curled sideways on the chair and pulled the blanket up. Taking a few moments to get comfy, you looked back at Reiner. His eyes faced forward but after a moment they glanced to you and softened before meeting your eyes. He smiled slightly and put one of his hands on the side of your thigh. You smiled back before letting your eyes flutter closed, you mind drifting to sleep.
"Y/n. Y/n." Hushed words urged you to open your eyes.
You groaned a no in response while snuggling further into the seat. A hand on your shoulder shook you slightly. You peaked an eye open to see Reiner in front of you, his body turned so that he was facing you.
"Y/n as much as i'd love to let you sleep, it's been 7 hours and everything's gonna be closed soon. Come on, let's have dinner and then you can go back to bed okay?"
You, slowly, took the warm blanket off you, shivering at the contact of the cold air. You stepped out of the car, stretching your body and muscles as much as possible before standing normally. You barely had time to shiver again before you were blinded by a cloth. The huge fabric fell over your body as you head peeped out and you were able to see again. That's when you noticed that the cloth that was put over you was Reiner's hoodie. The huge black material was soft and engulfed you nearly to your knees. It's was warm and smelled like him too. Heaven.
He slung his arm over your shoulder, chuckling at your reaction, and started walking with you to the diner. The bell rang as the two of you entered and an older woman came to great you.
"Hello! How many?" Her voice was kind as she started to pick up menus.
"Uh two." Reiner answered.
"Table or booth?"
Reiner glanced to you.
"Booth!" You said excitedly.
Reiner nodded as the woman smiled and began to lead you further into the building. She lead you to red leather seated booth that had widow on the inside. You sat on one side while Reiner sat on the other. After opening your menus the lady left to give you time to decide. After a few minutes she returned and took your order.
"What would you like to drink young man?"
"Water please." Reiner answered.
"And you young lady?"
"Um (drink) please." You said.
She nodded, writing it on her notepad, before continuing,
"And what would y'all like to eat?"
Reiner looked at you to answer first.
"Um can I have a cheese burger with fries?"
She nodded and wrote it on her pad like before.
"And you?" She turned to Reiner.
"I'll have a number three please."
The woman nodded and wrote it on the note pad.
"And is that all?" She asked.
"For now, yes. Thank you." Reiner replied.
"My pleasure. It'll be out in about 15 minutes."
"Thank you." You said before she smiled and left.
You turned back to Reiner. He was on his phone as you did the same, pulling out the device and using it to help distract you. A couple minutes had gone by when you got bored of your phone, choosing to set it down and look out the window. You could see the highway a little past the parking lot.
In your sleep dazed state you hadn't been able to take notice of the diner but from the interior you could tell it kept an 80's theme to it with its neon lighting and other decor. The building itself was long and thin, a bar to the right when you entered and tables and booths to the left.
You hummed in approval at the overall impressive style of the restaurant. The lady then appeared again with your drinks in hand before smiling at you two before leaving again. You looked back out the window for a few moments before you heard a small breathy snicker from Reiner.
You turned to look at him but his gaze didn't leave his phone.
What could he possibly be laughing at? Why if it's another girl that he's talking to? What if-
Your thoughts were cut off when your phone dinged and vibrated on the table where you had set it. You looked back to Reiner and picked up the phone.
You had a new message.
You opened the phone to see that Reiner had sent you a video of a cat falling into a tub of water.
You smiled, not only at the cat but your cute boyfriend as well.
How could I of possibly thought that he would cheat? I mean ai didn't think he was cheating necessarily but I still thought it was a girl. It could've been a guy? Gosh your so stupid Y/n. Getting worked up over something so insignificant. It's was just a cat video. Plus he wouldn't agree to go on this trip, hours away from home and stranded with you, if he had a side chick.
Your thoughts were rational as you decided that you freaked out for nothing, and you were right. Reiner isn't and would never cheat. The next time Reiner laughed a little he turned his phone to you to show the meme he was looking at. It made you laugh too as he set his phone down. He looked around quickly before looking at his watch.
"Calm down big guy it's only been 10 minutes."
You said before he mumbled a reply.
"Yeah easy for you to say you slept the whole time." His words playfully teased you as you exaggerated a frown.
"I'll let you know that it's hard work being me. Especially napping in the car, oh man can it be rough." You and him chuckled at your humor.
You took a sip of your drink, hoping to fill your stomach at least a little. 5 minutes passed and the lady soon brought out you plates. She asked if either of you needed anything before leaving again, telling you to call for her if you did.
The two of you dug into your food. To outsiders you might look like a humanized pack of hungry wolves. The truth was the two of you hadn't had food since your early lunch and it was nearly 10 o'clock at night now. The two of you at in a comfortable silence. About halfway through your meal you noticed that you had less fries than usual and just barely saw Reiner shove one in his mouth before trying to play it off.
Your eyes narrowed at the betrayal. The next time he wasn't looking, you reached over and took a piece of his food, waiting for him to notice and look at you, before putting it in your mouth, making sure he saw. His eyes narrowed like yours had but eased when we realized that he had done the same, and that your 'evil grin' was actually pretty cute.
The meal continued with one occasionally stealing food from the other. When your plates had nearly been licked clean the waitress from before came back over.
"And would y'all like a desert or anything?"
You looked at Reiner pleadingly and he nodded your yes to the lady.
"And would would you like?" She looked at you first.
"A chocolate milkshake please." You answered.
She nodded before writing it down like before and then turning to Reiner.
"I'll have the same as her."
She nodded in understanding before writing that too on the notepad. She walked away, going to make your orders.
You and Reiner waited, and it didn't take long before she returned. She placed a tall glass in front of both you and Reiner. You glared at each other, both of you thinking the same thing.
"Loser has to drive the next shift?" You offered.
"Your on." He answered.
"3."
"2."
"1."
"Go!"
You both chugged your drink, racing to down it faster than the other. It only took you a couple seconds before you slapped your hands on the table, signally that you were done. Reiner sipped his milkshake a couple more times before he too finished it. He groaned as you cheered at your victory.
"No fair I drove all day." He whined.
"You agreed to it. Sorry babe but you've got duty for the next couple'a hours."
He groaned again before standing up to go pay. When he was finished he came back and walked with you to the car. You both got in as he immediately turned on the heat. You were traveling south but the nights were still cold. The car took a couple of minutes to warm up but when it did Reiner finally got back on the highway.
You drifted in and out of sleep for the next couple hours before it was your turn to drive. You only had about 4 more hours until you reached your destination and you told Reiner you could handle it. It was only a couple minutes into your shift before you noticed he had already passed out.
A part of you felt bad for making him drive most of the time but he did lose the contest. You reached your hand out and intertwined your fingers with Reiner and despite him being, or looking, asleep- his fingers tightly held yours. You smiled as you face forward again and kept driving.

also i'm so sorry that characters don't have scenarios written about them for awhile i promise i try to keep them rotated evenly but sometimes i just have no motivation and other times i have a good idea and binge write but don't worry chapters won't stop- i'm not kidding if i have 6 scenarios/ chapters ready rn and i'm always writing SO- if you don't give me requests your gonna have to deal with what i come up with- (and i'm stupid so...)
