SHIELD showed up before the EMTs did. Everyone was forced to give their report while the AIM soldiers were taken in. But the entire time, you stayed with the unconscious Felicia.
Every time an agent tried to approach you, Venom appeared and scared them off. Janet showed up, Matt gave his report, and Widow stayed near to make sure you were okay.
She had never seen you like this. Viv either. You were too quiet. Too shaky. This wasn't normal and it started to make her worry.
Finally, the EMTs showed up and placed Felicia on a gurney before they carried her out. But you were determined to stay with her.
Widow: Stand back, kid. They'll look after her.
Y/N: She's not going anywhere without me!
Widow: Kid, you can't go with them. They said...
You didn't even hear her. You were so focused on staying with Felicia. You couldn't tell if this was just another AIM trick.
Y/N: You hear me, Felicia? Cat? I'm not leaving you with these strange men.
Widow: Y/N...
Y/N: Tell them I'm riding in that ambulance, Widow! I'm not leaving her!
Widow was an expert assassin. Trained in the Red Room. That being said, she had a secret she hated telling people. She had been to therapy for the last few years. It was Bruce's idea. A way to get her life back. And it worked.
But she could never get her training out of her head. She had seen abuse. She had dealt with PTSD. She had seen it all and then some.
Widow: We can follow them in my car.
Y/N: That's not good enough. They can be AIM! They'll kill her! Or worse!
Widow: They're EMTs, Y/N. They're just going to take her to the hospital.
She knew body language and she saw that you were about to go on a rampage. You were angry. Scared. You wanted to be by your friend's side to make sure she was alright. She got it. She has been there before herself.
Y/N: Do you know that?! Do you know them personally, Natasha?!
She had been where you are now. She knew better than to grab your wrist in this moment. It was like poking a snake ready to bite. But that thought came a second too late.
Widow: Y/N, wait!
She grabbed your wrist. Then you did something horrible. Something that would haunt you for the rest of your days.
You punched her.
Everyone stopped giving their reports as Widow fell back on the lawn as Venom retrained you as you realized what you did. Your eyes grew wide while Janet rushed over to her friend.
Janet: Y/N!
Y/N: I...I didn't...
Widow had been hit many times before. She was immediately grateful that you did use your claws or fire or super strength. It was a raw punch to the cheek. Not her first.
Her second thought was that she wanted to tell you to calm down and that it was okay. She knew that you didn't mean to hit her. That you were in a state of panic and that she shouldn't have grabbed you.
There was a split second where she thought about stabbing you, but it was quickly replaced with panic. If you were this unstable, then it meant bad news.
Before she could tell you anything, however, the ambulance began to drive away.
Y/N: I'm so sorry.
And just like that, you were gone.
Widow sat up and placed a hand on her cheek as Janet helped her up.
Janet: Are you alright?
Widow held up a hand.
Widow: I've had worse. In going after him. Make sure everyone gets home safe.
Janet just nodded. She knew that despite her upbringing, Natasha had a heart of gold that she didn't like to show. She also knew that Widow had been worried about you since you showed up to the Program.
Janet: Go make sure he's okay.
Widow nodded and hurried to her car. She had a boy to find.

Year 1
Widow got to the hospital minutes after the ambulance. There was no sign of you or of Felicia anywhere. She took a half a second to gather herself before she hurried inside.
There, she found you.
Widow: Oooooooooooh noooooooooo.
Y/N: I swear I will break every last bone in his arm! I swear!
Venom: He isssssn't playing, folkssss!
You had a man on the ground with his arm lifted behind his back. A feral look on your face as you glared at everyone in the waiting room.
Y/N: I want to go back into that room where you're keeping her or I will break all of you!
Nurse: Sir, she's in emergency surgery. You can't go back there!
Y/N: Bullshit! I know you bastards work for AIM!
Widow: Y/N!
You froze at her voice. You looked at her and Widow's heart broke. You were angry, manic. Only for a second before it changed to regret and and fear.
Y/N: Nat?
Tears began to form in your eyes as you slowly let the man go.
Y/N: I'm so sorry, Nat. AIM attacked and I didn't know who the hell I could trust and I-I don't want to lose her. She's my family and my best friend and I can't lose her.
Widow walked over to you and kneeled down as she hugged you. You began to cry as you hugged her back.
Y/N: I'm so sorry. I can't lose her. I can't lose her. I'm sorry.
Widow: I know. I know.
As you cried, she held you. Once again, you were a scared child. Only this time, you weren't alone.

Widow: So, what do you want? Cupcake or fruit pie?
Widow knew you wouldn't leave. That you would want to stay here until you made sure Felicia was okay. You were pacing while Widow looked at the vending machine.
Widow: I think Janet did some ADs for the fruit pie people.
Y/N: Yeah...that's fine.
She hoped talking to you about junk food might snap you out of your funk. But not even Venom budged. Made sense if he was feeling the same thing you were.
Even after you ate half of the fruit pie, you couldn't stay still. Widow would watch as you would get up, pace, and sit back down every few minutes. You would get frustrated and have to walk away before you came back slightly more calm.
Venom: Cool it. Deep breathsss, kid. Calm down before you do ssssomething ssstupid.
You took his advice and calmed down before you went back to Widow. She would talk to you but you would only give quick response or a grunt. She would tell a joke, which was often weird or morbid, and you would gave a curt laugh.
It was nearly 2 in the morning when you fell asleep in the waiting room. Widow watched you sleep before Venom appeared on your shoulder.
Venom: Hey, Widow.
Widow: Venom? I think this is the first time we talked without Y/N.
Venom: He doesssn't trust me to be alone with any girlsss.
Widow just smiled.
Widow: I wonder why.
Venom: I'm not here to hit on you. I want to thank you.
Widow raised a brow.
Venom: Look, I knew the kid'ssss mom. We were Ssstrikersss. Back when I had my old hossst, Brock.
Widow: You did mention that. What did you mean?
Venom: His mom and dad were agentssss for the Creator. Like me, hissss father wassss a criminal. The Creator sssaw the good in usss and brought ussss on. Thissss kid never got to know hisss family.
Widow looked at your sleeping face again. It was hard to remember that you were still a kid sometimes.
Venom: Ssso, thank you for giving him another one.
Widow smiled as she brushed some hair out of your face.
Widow: It's an honor.
Venom nodded at her and dissapered back into your shirt. Widow sat there for a moment before she stood up. She leaned down and kissed your head before she pulled out her phone and headed towards the stairs.

There were a lot of things that people said about the Black Widow of the Avengers. How she was the most useless member of the team since she was nothing but a spy.
She never cared for those kind of rumors. But if there was one that made her mad, it was that she was the team mom.
Clint had called her that once. She stabbed him with one of his shock arrows.
She had never been the maternal type. Never wanted kids or anything like it. She had her own things to worry about. And yet, she found herself caring about the kids she got stuck with.
She remembers when Tony and Cap asked her to run the Program. She had every reason to refuse but she accepted since she owed Steve a favor.
Then you were dragged into the tower and things changed. The other kids, she loved. They all had their own purpose and were all looking to become the next super hero.
But you, you had become something more. She saw the hope in your eyes and the fire to do more. She saw how excited you were to help others and she wanted to push you to reach that potential you showed every day.
Janet: Everyone is safe. I'm with Nadia and Viv in the tower.
Widow: Thank you, Jan. I appreciate it. I probably won't be back tonight.
Janet: Take your time. See you when I see you.
Widow said her goodbyes and hung up. She tucked her phone away and stood up. However, she wasn't alone on the roof.
???: Well, looks like we found a bug.
Widow turned around and found two people standing there.
Widow: What are you doing here, Whirlwind? And who's your tacky friend.
Whirlwind: Me and Beetle are here on business, Natasha. Please don't make me have to go through you.
Widow: Beetle, huh? Someone should tell her that the lingerie goes under the armor.
Beetle just groaned while Whirlwind walked over to Widow who had her arms crossed.
Widow: What business do you have here at the hospital? I haven't even beat you up yet.
Whirlwind: We got two bounties to cash out. Some nerds want their property back.
Widow: You're not getting anywhere near those kids.
Beetle and Whirlwind looked at each other before Beetle lifted her arm and fired off a blast at Widow. She ducked under it and kicked Beetle in the face which sent her falling backwards.
Widow: Now, David, don't make me humiliate you in front of your fashion victim girlfriend.
Whirlwind: *sigh. Fine. Let's do it.
Whirlwind swung at Widow but she dodged it. She dropped down and sweeped his legs out of underneath him. She jumped back up but was tackled through the door by Beetle.
Beetle: For someone who has no powers, you sure don't seem fond on using armor!
The fight ended up traveling down the stairs towards the waiting room. When they finally crashed through the doors, you sat up.
Y/N: Zombie zombie!
Venom: They're in the treesss!
You quickly realized that Widow was being attacked and you leaped into action. You grabbed Beetle and tossed her over your shoulder right into the vending machine.
Widow: Damn. Easy, kid. Rough them up, but try to leave the snacks out of it.
Y/N: Right, sorry.
Widow got up as Whirlwind ran down the steps. You popped out your claws as he charged at you. However, Widow was quicker than you were. She grabbed his arm and swung him into the wall where she broke his bone.
Whirlwind: Ahhhhh!
Widow: See, Y/N? No snacks were harmed.
Y/N: Noted.
Beetle stood back up and aimed her wrist at you. She went to fire it, but you zapped her wrist with electricity which fried her blaster. Widow then kicked her chin which knocked her out.
Before you could call it a win, Whirlwind stood up and began to spin around. Suddenly, there was, well, whirlwind in the waiting room which shook the entire building.
Y/N: Crap, what do we do?
Widow: We need to...
Suddenly, one of the chairs flew through the air and smacked Widow in the head which knocked her down. You turned to Whirlwind with boiling blood.
Y/N: You're dead.
Venom: And I'm not ssstopping him.
He didn't even need to. Because something happened that no one accounted for. From behind, Whirlwind was knocked out by a metal tray to the head. When he dropped, you found Felicia standing there in a hospital gown holding the tray.
Y/N: Felicia? Cat?
She dropped the tray and looked at you with tired eyes.
Cat: It's me. Can we leave now? I rather not eat hospital food.
Widow sat up rubbing her head.
Widow: You know what? I think I'm done with hospitals for a while.

You laid on the floor of your room with Felicia. Both of you laid in a way that your feet were on opposite sides of the rooms while you laid your heads together.
Your phone was set up in between you both playing some song Kamala put on it. It was late, but the two of you just wanted to be together.
Maybe not as a couple, but you were both okay with just being friends right now.
Felicia: So, this app let's you play music?
Y/N: Yeah. I think Riri called it, Spotifly? Spotlerfy?
Felicia: Cool.
Her eyes shifted.
Cat: So, do we have to cuddle tonight? I only see one bed in here.
You couldn't help but smile.
And Widow couldn't help but do the same as she watched you from your doorway.
She wasn't a team mom.
She didn't have any super powers.
And yeah, she stabbed her best friend with a shock arrow.
But at the end of the day, she was going to do everything she could to help guide you to being a better person and a great hero.
Felicia too, it seemed. Since she was staying around for the foreseeable future.
But she was okay with that. So what if she needed to watch over another kid?
She was glad to do it.
Widow: But I'm definitely going to stab him in the morning for hitting me.
She smiled and headed off to her room. Leaving you and Felicia alone to catch up.
Maybe you'll be just fine after all.
