The warm air pushed past the curtains, allowing the moonlight to cascade through the room and dance against our tired bodies. Sleep had long past taken over my mind, the light snores from the tired body next to me created a perfect melody with the bustling cars from the streets around us, filling my mind with ease. This was the first night that I had felt like this in months.
Having just given birth to our daughter Ophelia, it was no surprise that the poor girl was just getting used to life, and with that came crying, every, single, night. Despite my lack of sleep, I wouldn't trade motherhood for the world, and plus, I had the best husband, which made it all worth it.
It had to have been 2 in the morning by now, and dreams had filled my mind with warm thoughts until an odd sound began to wake me from my slumber.
Wimpers began to fill the hall and push past the door, the sound shaking my mind awake. The wimpers became sobs, and suddenly I was up, pushing myself out of the warm silk sheets and into the brisk room. I sat on the edge of the bed, brushing my messy hair out of my face and wiping my eyes of the leftover sleep. Stretching tiredly, I began making my way to the door, prepared to nurse the small girl back to sleep.
The sound of Wilbur stirring awake could be heard as i reached the door, making me turn to face him,
"I'm sorry for waking you Wil, Oph is crying again, but i'll be back in a second"
I began turning back around, only stopping as i feel wilburs warm hand wrap around my wrist
"You need the sleep love, i've got her"
"It's ok Wil, really. I don't mind getting her"
He smiled softly before bending down to place a soft kiss on my lips, the feeling sending butterflies through my body
"I'll be back in a moment"
He pulled the door open before walking past me and into the hall. I could hear his footsteps cascade down the hall before a door was opened and his warm voice filled the empty space again
"Hi baby, daddy's here, it's ok"
I stay stood at the door for a moment before laying back down, my focus still on his soft words. He was so gentle to her, which was something that came as a surprise considering how big he was, but it was something that I loved so much about Wil, he was a gentle giant. He was like no one I had ever met
"What's wrong princess"
The baby begins to babble and whimper in response, the sound making me smile
"Oh really, that's crazy"
He giggled cutely at her
more baby babble came after before her small cries began again
"Hey, hey princess its ok-"
Will was silent for a moment, i could feel myself falling back into a deep slumber as his voice began again, this time it was much softer
"Oh, Ophelia-
-You've been on my mind, girl, since the flood"
I stopped in place as I heard the voice of the man I had fallen in love with, the man with the most beautiful voice I'd ever heard
"Oh, Ophelia-
-Heaven help the fool who falls in love"
Her cries stopped instantly, he was like magic, a drug that no one could resist
The sound of him singing brought me back to all the nights that we had spent dancing to the lumineers together, all the nights in the moonlight, the words to Ophelia filling our hearts.
I had completely forgotten where I was as I felt a hand on my shoulder, wilburs soft voice filling my mind again
"You ok, love?"
Without a response I turn into his arms, my head resting against his chest, the sound of his heart loud in my ears
He wraps his arms gently around me before leaning down and placing a soft kiss on my forehead, his soft whispers filling my heart with love
"goodnight my love"
