*Ava*

The first football game of the season. Everybody was too excited about it, planning to paint their bodies the school colors or make huge signs.

Mitch and I on the other hand, were one of the few people who simply didn't care for sports. That's exactly why Mitch invited me to a party for the anti-preps. The usual people that hung around parties that I attended to. The ones that weren't into cheering along at football games.

At lunch, the entire football team gathered around, eating and laughing with their team mates. My eyes remained on Logan, who was sitting at the edge of the table, quiet, in his football jersey. I was a little confused as to why Kylie isn't here. She usually sits with Logan at lunch, purring into his ear all afternoon long.

Logan must of noticed that I've been staring, because he turned his full head of blonde hair my way and something glimmered in his eyes for a short moment that I swear it could of been..

"Ava." Mitch snapped.

"Yeah?"

"Did you see that?"

"See what?"

"Kylie ran out of the cafeteria.. crying."

"What?" I said in pure shock looking around.

"Yeah. She just got here but as soon as she took one look at you and loverboy's googly eyes to each other, she bolted."

I rolled my eyes in annoyance. Can't she see there's nothing going on between us? I wanted to scoff and say that's what she gets, but something in my gut just wouldn't have it. A little rise of guilt started within me, but I quickly snapped out of it. What should I be guilty for?

"Ugh. I'll go run after the Queen Bee." I said getting up from the table and leaving the lunchroom.

It was only obvious where she could be hiding, the girl's bathroom. I opened the door and looked around to see Kylie. It was empty.

"Kylie?" I called out. All of the stalls seemed to be open.. except one.

"Who's there?" She responded with a sniffle. I sighed and nearly had to stop myself from rolling my eyes.

"It's Ava.." I stated.

I could hear her scoff from inside the stall. "What do you want Ava? Can't you just leave me alone? You win, okay. You win."

"I win? What am I winning from?" I asked in confusion.

The bathroom stall swung open and left Kylie crying, tears and mascara staining her cheeks. "This." She motioned between her and I. "I'm done doing this. This constant competition between you and I. I get it, okay. You get the guy. You always do."

"What the hell are you talking about?"

"Don't be so freaking obtuse, Ava." Her voice sounded like she her nose was plugged up, but I give her props for using such a big word. "This is the same thing that happened between you and Taylor-"

Okay. Now I was really fucking confused. "Woah, Kylie. Stop.. Don't go there."

"It's true." She scoffed. "Everything was fine before you showed up. Taylor was mine and only mine. I was enough for him and you just had to-" her voice was raising by the second.

"Kylie!" I tried to interrupt.

"No, Ava!" She shouted. "Let me fucking talk!"

I rolled my eyes and stayed quiet while she went on. I could see her close her eyes and taking a deep breath before continuing. Her voice was much more calm when she spoke. "Taylor didn't love me. I know that now. For years, I've been blinded by my love for him. Yeah, that's right Ava. I love him. But he doesn't love me. He loves you."

I wanted to correct her to say that he did love me, but I decided against it. "Kylie, look. I'm sorry, okay? I didn't mean for what happened between me and Taylor happen."

"You still don't get it, Ava. Are you really that blind?"

"What do I don't get!" Now it was my turn to raise my voice.

"Logan wants to be with you!"

My body was frozen as soon as those words escaped her lips. "What?" My voice croaked. Fuck. Get it together Ava.

She rolled her eyes. "You really are blind. Logan is no Taylor Andrews, we both know. But he looks at you the same way Taylor did.. and I simply refuse to stand in between it again. I'm not going to be the victim anymore." Of course she would act like the victim.

"No.." I shook my head. "No. He doesn't. Just drop this now, okay."

"You are so in denial, Ava. We both know he does. You're just scared. But I can't say I don't blame you after Taylor left you."

"Kylie." I warned. "Drop it."

A smug smile played at her lips, but I wasn't going to let her know that she was getting to me. She walked past me, grabbing a papertowel to wipe her face.

"Are you going to Logan's game tonight?" She asked me. Is she really trying to make conversation with me?

"Uh.. no. I'm going to a party."

"You mean those parties where stoners and sluts hang around? Why it's perfect for you." Yup. There's the Kylie I know and hate.

"Whatever." I rolled my eyes and headed back into the hallway.

Next thing I knew, a hand grabbed a hold of my arm and pulled me behind the lockers. I whipped around to see Logan, stress just merely spreading on his face.

"What the hell! Is a simple 'I need to talk to you' not enough!"

"Ava, calm down." Logan shushed me. His eyes went from me to the girl's bathroom. "Is Kylie in there?" Something sincere in his voice made a twinge of jealousy rise in my stomach.

"Yeah." My voice sounded much more smaller than I intended it to.

His brown eyes focused back to me, the softness never leaving. "Are you okay?"

"Why do you care?" I snapped. I didn't forget him ignoring me for almost a week. He was taken a back by my outburst. "Did I do something wrong?"

My silence was enough for him to answer his own question. "Ava, I'm sorry.. I didn't-"

I raised my hand, silencing him. "Don't. Just don't." I seethed. "If you didn't want to be friends anymore, you could of just told me."

A look of confusion spread across his face. "W-what, what are you talking about? Of course I want to be friends! I was just mad because.. because.."

"Because what, Logan?" My patience was starting to grow thin.

He mumbled something under his breath, something I couldn't quiet catch.

"What?"

"Ava, look." He sighed. "It doesn't matter why I was mad, just know that I'm not anymore. I'm sorry for mistreating you this past week."

"You just can't say sorry and expect me to forgive you so quickly." I muttered.

"I know." He shoved his hands in his pockets and looked at the ground. "Are you still coming to my game?" He asked timidly.

"Oh.. um.." I stammered. "I'm actually going to a party."

"So you're not going to come?"

"Do you want me to come?"

"Well, yeah." One of his hands rubbed over the back of his neck. Noticing his reaction, he straightened his posture and cleared his throat. "You know, for the support."

A small frown spread to my face and he chuckled. "C'mon Ava. Take a break from your crazy wild life and come to your friend's football game?"

"U-Uh.. yeah." I sighed. "Sure, why not."

A smile spread to his face, his dimples popping out as he did so. Football games really aren't my thing, but I didn't have the guts to say no, even if I wanted to.

"Great. I'll see you tonight then." He smiled and turned around. I caught his arm before he could walk off.

"Wait! If I'm going to your football game, then you have to do something for me"

"Now, Ava. We both know I have a girlfriend." He smirked.

"No." I cringed and shook my head. "Accompany me to 210?"

"What's that?"

Shit. I forgot he's new here.

"210. It's the best club in town for young rich adults to party and what not. I got a gig there Saturday night but I'm allowed to enjoy myself before and after my performance. Will you come with me?"

His smile returned, reaching from ear to ear. "Of course. I'd love to."

"Good." I smiled back. "See you tonight."

"See ya." He waved as he walked off back to the cafeteria. As soon as he left, I couldn't help but feel giddy that he was coming along with me to 210.

Wait. Did I just agree to go to his-? Oh no. What the fuck did I just get myself into. I pulled out my phone and dialed Mitch's number.

"Hello?"

"Cancel the party plans. We're going to a football game tonight."

..

"I have no idea why you made me come here." Mitch complained.

"If I have to suffer, you do too. It's like a best friend law or something."

We sat down, as the game started. I scanned over the football field. Sure enough, a blonde headed boy in football gear caught my eye. He looked up from his position and looked over the crowd. As soon as his eyes met mine, his smile brightened and waved. I was happy to return it. I stopped when I heard someone snort behind me.

"She's so desperate. She actually think that wave was for her."

I turned around, trying to find the person who said it, but no luck. Everybody seemed to focus in the game.

"She's such a freaking whore. She's crazy if she thinks she's good enough for Logan."

Apparently, I wasn't the only one who heard that comment becuas  Mitch whipped around, glaring at two girls giggling a couple of bleachers behind us. "Hey! If you don't want a 3 inch boot heel shoved down your fucking throat, I suggest you shut the fuck up or get the hell out!"

The girls stayed there stunned and silent, as for the remainder of the game. Mitch sat there with a smug, satisfied smile on her lips. But I couldn't help but overthink that girl's words.

She's crazy if she thinks she's good enough for Logan.

Suddenly, the final buzzard rang and our team won 41-14. Everybody in the crowd cheered, including Mitch and I.

"I'm going to go congratulate Logan!" I yelled to Mitch over the crowd as I ran down to the football field.

I rushed past football players, trying to find Logan. Soon enough, I found the familiar blonde head boy with brown eyes. "Logan!" I called out.

He turned around and the smile he gave me, shot butterflies in my tummy. But I didn't care. I made my way through the field, ready to run and congratulate him. But something-someone stopped me dead in my tracks.

A girl grabbed his shoulders and quickly pushed her pretty pink lips against his.

Oh god.. Kylie.

A lump in my throat formed as I literally had to choke down the tears that were threatning to spill. Suddenly, Logan pulled away, leaving a confused Kylie standing there. He leaned down and whispered something in her ear. She looked at me then him and nodded.

Logan turned to me and his godly smile returned to his face. "Ava!" He saod rushing towards me. "I'm so glad you came!" His strong arms wrapped around my shoulders, hudding me tightly. It took me a while to shake off my confusion before I hugged him back.

"C'mon." He said letting go, but still having one arm around my shoulder. "Take me home. I'm exhausted."

I let out a relieved chuckle as I took him out the gates and to my car. I couldn't help the stupid smile that layed on my face as I drove back home.
