Y/N and Miguel walked into the gymnasium, where the dance was being held. The sound of loud music and people chattering met their ears as they searched around, looking for their friends. Y/N's eyes landed on a wizard-looking guy and surgeon, causing her to instantly know who they are. She tugged on Miguel, getting his attention, before dragging him over to Eli and Demetri.
"Oh, skeleton. Classic. And Wonder Woman. Very nice." Demetri complimented. "Thanks. I like your sorcerer costume." Y/N replied with a smile. Demetri looked at her like she had an extra head. "Sorcerer? Please. I'm a necromancer." Demetri scoffed. Y/N exchanged a confused look with Miguel. "What?" Miguel asked, he and Y/N still confused. "Didn't you see the amulet?" Demetri pointed to the necklace around his neck. Still confused, Miguel turned to Eli.
"So, are you a regular doctor or-" "Plastic surgeon. I fix lips." Eli answered. That's weirdly specific, but all right then. Y/N thought. "Nice," Miguel replied awkwardly. Y/N looked over to see Sam talking to a girl, who was wearing a headband with antennas on it. "I'll be right back." She said to the boys before walking towards Sam. "Hey, Sam!" Y/N greeted happily. "Oh hey Y/N! I love your costume!" Sam gushed. "Thanks, I love yours! Who's this?" She asked, turning to the girl. "Oh, I'm Aisha." She introduced, sticking her hand. "Hey, Aisha. I'm Y/N." Y/N replied, shaking her hand. "What's your costume?"
Aisha opened her mouth to reply when Y/N cut her off. "Wait, the NA, the antennas. You're the sodium to someone's chloride." Y/N answered, causing Aisha to smile. "Exactly!" She exclaimed happily. Sam smiled at the two girls. "Hey Sam, get your ass over here we're going live," Yasmine yelled at Sam. Sam turned to her friends and nodded before turning back to the two girls. "Can we make plans to hang out soon? It's been way too long." Sam asked Aisha. "I'd love that," Aisha replied softly. "You too, Y/N. My dad talks about you. I think he's trying to get someone to do karate with him." Sam stated, turning to Y/N. Y/N let out a laugh. "I'd love to. Tell him next time I come over we can do some karate."
"Will do. Stay salty, my friend." Sam said before walking over to her friends. "Well, I'm going to go back over to my friends. Would you care to join?" Y/N asked politely. Y/N liked Aisha. She was sweet. "No, it's ok. Thank you though." Aisha declined. "Ok well, you're always welcome to hang out with us," Y/N stated before walking back over to the boys.
"Hey who was that you were talking to?" Miguel asked as Y/N approached them. "A friend of Sam. Her name is Aisha and she's really sweet." Y/N stated. Miguel nodded. "What scared someone is gonna take me from you?" Y/N teased. Miguel scoffed. "Yeah right. You're stuck with me." He wrapped an arm around her shoulder and brought him to his side, making her laugh.
"You guys wanna get some punch?" Demetri asked the group. They all nodded and made their way across the gymnasium to the table. The whole time they were there, the boys kept staring at a group of girls dressed as dragon queens from Game of Thrones. "Let's ask the dragon queens to dance." Miguel insisted, causing Y/N to feel a little jealous. Stop he's your best friend.
A boy dressed in a suit, closely resembling that of Doctor Who, walked up to one of the girls and offered her his hand. She took it graciously causing the boys to sigh. "Shit. We lost one to Doctor Who." Miguel groaned, his shoulder slumping. "I'll dance with you, Miguel." Y/N offered. Miguel perked up. "Sure let's go!" He exclaimed happily, grabbing her hand and pulling her onto the floor.
Miguel spun her around, causing her to giggle. "Where'd you learn to dance, Mig?" She asked. "Mig? That's a new one." He commented. Y/N shrugged. "Makes you sound a little cuter."
"I don't wanna sound cute, I wanna sound badass."
"Then change your name to Johnny."
"Haha, you're so funny. What was it you said to sensei? Quit and become a comedian?"
"Oh stop you know you loved it."
"I'm not sure I did."
Y/N gasped in fake hurt. "Miguel you wound me." Miguel laughed. "What happened to Mig?" He asked, pulling her into a side hug. "I thought you wanted to sound badass?" She teased. "Well, you calling me Mig is kind of cute so I'll make an exception." He flirted. The two stared at each other for what seemed like hours when suddenly their phones went off, breaking them from their staring contest.
They both opened their phones to see a video of Aisha standing at the snack table eating with a cartoon snout and a caption that read: THE BUFFET TABLE IS UNDER ATTACK" Everyone started laughing, while Aisha looked around in sadness and embarrassment. Y/N watched as Aisha ran out of the gymnasium, tears threatening to leave her eyes. "I'm gonna go check on her ok?" Y/N said, squeezing Miguel's hand. "I'm gonna go use the bathroom. I think Eli and Demetri are in there," Miguel replied. Y/N planted a kiss on his cheek before running out of the gymnasium after Aisha.
"Aisha! Aisha! Wait up!" Y/N called after her. "What here to make fun of me too?!" Aisha shouted, her voice cracking. "No, I came to check on you. I know what it's like to be bullied for your size and I just wanted you to know I'm here for you." Y/N reassured softly. Aisha sniffed. "Come here." Y/N ushered, pulling her into a hug. Aisha cried into her shoulder a little until pulling away. "Thank you, Y/N." She said, wiping a few tears. "Can I see your phone?"
Aisha handed Y/N her phone confused. Y/N opened up the contacts app and added her number. She then opened the camera and put it on selfie mode. "Selfie time!" Y/N said cheerily. The two girls smiled as a photo was snapped. Y/N added the photo to her contact and gave the phone back to Aisha. "I put my number in there, just in case you ever need someone to talk to." Aisha smiled gratefully at the girl.
Y/N noticed a figure in the hallway, hanging up flyers. Noticing his iconic blond hair, Y/N recognized it as Johnny and smiled. "Listen I gotta go but just know you're beautiful the way you are and I'll always be here for you," Y/N reassured. Aisha nodded and gave Y/N one last hug before walking away. Y/N jogged down the hallway and stood behind Johnny, who hadn't noticed her presence.
"Hey! You're trespassing!" Y/N mocked in a shrieking voice. Johnny spun around quickly, his face full of fear until he noticed Y/N standing there, clutching her side in laughter. "You should've seen your face! It was priceless!" Y/N laughed. Johnny rolled his eyes and flicked her in the forehead. "Hey!" She whined, rubbing her now irritated forehead. "That's what you get for being annoying." He stated with a smirk. "Na you love me."
Before Johnny could reply, the door to the boy's locker room opened with Kyler and his friends coming out, cheering. Y/N instinctively grabbed Johnny's arm, causing him to look at her confused. "Sorry." She muttered, embarrassed. "We sure showed, 'Rhea." Kyler whooped happily, his friends praising him. Y/N eyes widened. Miguel!
Johnny and Y/N ran into the locker room and looked around frantically. Y/N heard a low wheezing sound and looked down an aisle. What she saw nearly made her scream. It was Miguel, laying on the ground with lacrosse sticks around him and his face covered with bruises. He was clutching his stomach in pain and his eyes were closed, his chest rising very slow. Too slow for Y/N's liking. "Miguel!" Y/N shrieked, running to his side.
She kneeled next to him and placed a hand on his cheek. "It's ok. You'll be ok." She whispered as Johnny kneeled next to her. He placed a comforting hand on her shoulder, making her look at him. He saw something in her eyes, something he had never seen before. Pure anger.
