....
"Big brother!" A small voice shouted, the floor boards creaked as a small sasuke searched for his older brother. The Uchiha house was too big for someone so small, and so he had a hard time finding his brother. He called out a few more times before he sat on the floor, tears sprouting from his eyes, he had given up. His tired legs could only carry him so far, and at this point it seemed his big brother had disappeared! His little chest shook out a sob, but it didn't last long as his sight turned black. Two hands covered his eyes, a light chuckle let a wave of relief wash over the young uchiha. "Aiko!" Sasuke cries in relief, a smile shining through his clouded eyes. The older girl, brushed a few strands of her black hair behind her ear. She smiled at Sasuke, as she took his hand, "Don't cry Sasuke, Let's go find Itachi!" She tried to cheer up the little boy, successfully gaining an enthusiastic yell.

The duo walked off the Uchiha house and towards the training fields. The cicadas chirped at the warm summer evening, and the fluffy white clouds tousled the grass with gentle gusts of wind. Sasuke soon pulled at Aiko's hand, his legs were still tired from all the running around from earlier. Sighing, Aiko crouched and let Sasuke on her back, firmly holding him, she took steady steps towards the approaching sound of metal clashing against wood. "Big brother never has time to teach me anything..." sighed Sasuke, his eyes trailing down the path they were walking on. Aiko hummed, she always seemed to know what to tell Sasuke, "You have to be patient Sasuke, because Itachi is going to learn better techniques to teach you, so that way... you'll become even stronger!" Her animated voice reached the ears of the Uchiha in training, his black hair flowing with the breeze as he shot another round of kunai at all of his targets. He smiled, enjoying the sound of his little brother laughing and cheering. Soon the two figures were clearer as they reached the center of the field, the forest surrounding them, in a kind shelter.

Aiko let Sasuke off, he ran towards his big brother gleefully yelling his name. She gave them space, as they conversed, when suddenly she felt the presence of another life hidden in the trees. Scanning the surrounding greenery she glanced at a certain tree, there she found an Anbu member perched, watching them idly. At the sudden shock of being caught, the Anbu hid deeper into the forest, a glint of danger in his hidden eyes. Aiko frowned, this was the third Anbu member that has been spying on her today, this couldn't mean anything good. Looking back at the two brothers Aiko smiled, they beckoned her over, now ready to include her in their conversation. She complied, carefully glancing back at the empty spot where the Anbu was spotted. Itachi noticed her staring and looked at the same spot, "What's wrong Aiko?" He furrowed his brows, getting a Kunai ready behind his back. Aiko only shook her head, " Oh, don't worry, I just saw a pretty bird!" She smiled, wrapping a strand of her hair around her finger, coiling as it were a spring.

"Big brother show Aiko that new jutsu you were practicing!" Itachi sternly looked into her eyes for lies but gave up after the continued tugs from his little brother, with a sigh Itachi nodded and put away his Kunai. With quick hand gestures, he backflipped farther from them, jumping into the air as his cheeks grew in size with powerful chakra holding up like a heated flame, with a large push from his lungs he let out a giant ball of fire. Sasuke cheered in awestruck, hugging his big brother once he was back on the ground. The smell of burning woods perforated their senses, the wind blowing the fires into a wild frenzy. Aiko clapped, "Good job Itachi, you've definitely improved, if only you didn't take it out on the trees!" She laughed a bit at his embarrassment. Following her own set of hand signs, Aiko puffed her cheeks as well, instead letting out a fountain of water rain onto the burning trees. Soon the smoke subsided with another gentle wave of a breeze and hot steam.
"Woah!" Sasuke grinned, his childlike wonder once again impressed. Aiko smiled at Itachi, a faint blush on his cheeks as they kept eye contact. A stomach growling soon broke off their staring contest, Sasuke gripped at his belly, a blush on his cheeks. "Big brother I'm hungry!" Sasuke puffed his cheeks out, in protest, Itachi poked his forehead, a small whine leaving Sasuke's lips, "Let's go get some food then!"
...

Soft snores came from Itachi's backside, Sasuke's legs gently swaying to the pace of Itachi. Aiko walked next to him, her mind focused on something else, when a sudden nudge from Itachi's elbow called for her attention. Aiko was 3 years older than Itachi, she was a senior in the ninja academy, and she knew Itachi because she had many classes with him since he was an Uchiha prodigy. Even though he was a loner, she was one of the few who managed to gain a friendship with the stoic Uchiha, other than Shisui. Aiko herself was a decent ninja, nothing compared to Itachi though, which is why she admired his skills so much. She glanced at him, a brow raised at the sudden physical call, "Aiko, you saw the Anbu too right?" Itachi confirmed his theory at the shocked expression Aiko gave him. She grinned, gently patting his head, "Sharp eyes, like a true ninja should have!" Itachi's eyes glimmered at the compliment, a blush dusting his cheeks once more, a normal occurrence when around Aiko it seemed. Her face turned serious for a moment, "They've been trailing us for a while now.... I don't know what's going on."
Itachi contemplated why he would be getting watched by Anbu, only to remember his father's words. He remained silent, they walked the rest of the way peacefully, while Sasuke slept on his back, an uneasy feeling slithering down their necks.
...

Itachi leaned against the door frame of his house with Aiko standing outside, her eyes cast aside, the gentle breeze has since died. "I'll be leaving soon for a mission, Itachi-" she paused reaching for his cheek, her cold hand cupped his cheek, "Please stay safe." Her eyes begged him, her throat clenching as she knew the severity of her mission could take her life. Itachi leaned into her hand, "You're so cold Aiko, please keep warm, you could be getting sick." Itachi smiled gently, his onyx eyes reflecting with understanding. With that she stepped back, and flashed out of view. Itachi shut the door of his house, turning away with a longing sigh, his eyes frowning at the sight of his dad standing at the entrance with a scroll in hand.
"Son... it's time for you to represent your clan." His words cut deep into Itachi, it was in a world where hatred was a never ending cycle, that they had been born in this curse... because that's the ninja way.
