This chapter's for one of my amazing best friends bluebox21. She is absolutely amazing and I don't know what I'd do without her. Its all thanks to her and sociallyretardedkiwi that I'm on here at all, and without her I would not have the courage to actually write this, so thanks blue for being so amazing xxx
Red fell through the dark tunnel and landed gently on a the black ground, bending her legs to soften the landing. Reaching out her right arm, she slammed her fist against the knot on the wall to deactivate the defences. As the lights flickered on, she surveyed the entrance hall. The round walls were bare olive wood and the floor was hard dirt. This was the Base's main defense - they needed it to look bare so that no one would realise the place's true purpose and value.
Reds eyes flew to to the front of the room, as the hidden wooden door slid open. Through the door walked a pretty girl with shoulder length cobalt blue hair. Her brown eyes sparkled with humour and curiosity.
"Hey Rach!" Red smiled warmly at her friend. Rach had only joined them a year ago- she had been kidnapped and decided that she would rather stay and have adventures and help others like her favourite doctor rather than go home and stress over the future- but she was still one of Red's best friends.
"Where are the others?" Rach asked curiously.
"They're up the top, with..." Red smiled mischievously. "A possible new recruit!" Rach gasped. It had been a while before anyone had joined their cause. "What? You mean..." Red smiled and shushed her.
"I'll explain later. Can you get everyone into the great hall please? I think introductions are in order." Rach nodded and smiled once more before walking through the secret door and leaving Red to wait for the others.
On the surface Adam gaped at the hole in the tree Red had jumped through.
"You look like a fish. " Jonah commented. Peri laughed, and laughed harder when she saw Adam's glare. "You have to jump Adam," she said. "It's the only way to get into base." Adam gulped and stared at the tree. "Fine." Jonah huffed. "If he's in cable of functioning I'll jump now!" They watched as Jonah too plunged into darkness. "Go on." Peri pushed him forwards and smiled encouragingly.
He jumped.
Adam had ten long seconds to think about how terrible of an idea this was and how ridiculous it was that this would be how he died, before landing with a dull thud. He opened his eyes and looked around, amazed that he still seemed to be alive. He heard muffled laughter and a milky hand appeared in his vision. He took it and Red hauled him up. Hearing a light thud Adam whirled around only to see Peri stood behind him.
"Welcome to Base." Red smiled and began to walk towards a... Wall? Adam finally looked around properly and saw that they were trapped in a bare round wooden room.
"Urrm, there's no door.' He spoke up nervously. Jonah laughed cruelly but Peri and Red glared at him simultaneously and he shut up. Instead of answering Red stepped forward and stroked her hand against the wall. Just when he thought she'd gone crackers the wall slid open and they stepped through, emerging into a world the opposite of what he'd just seen.
They walked out into a long brightly-lit corridor. The floor was grey and the walls were light blue and adorned with old weapons and portraits. Soon they came to a stop in front of large double doors. Red swung them open and strode through, to a sight scarier than snatchers.
Teenagers.
Fifty teenagers stood in smaller groups talking and laughing, but as the doors flew open the room feel into silence and all eyes were on them. Adam had never been good with large groups of people. He'd been in tons of care homes and this felt like he was walking into yet another 'home' where hed be excluded and laughed at. Hell, Jonah had started that already.
Red, Peri and Jonah strode to the front of the room confidently, Adam trailing behind them. They didn't have to say a word to get silence- you could have heard a penny drop. Adam hadn't noticed it before but Red oozed authority, she didn't need to demand people's attention- just her presence made people want to listen to what she had to say.
"This is Adam." Red said clearly. "Earlier today we rescued him from the Snatchers." Everyone cheered at that, but quietened down when Red opened her mouth to continue. "But, his friend was also taken, and we couldn't save her. The snatcher who took her showed powers, powers we haven't ever seen on a snatcher before. There is only one way to save this girl and everyone else who's been taken. There's only one way to find out more about the Snatcher's strange powers. There's only one way to end this once and for all." The room waited with baited breath.
"We must attack the castle."
