Before the idols sing a song, they would listen to a demo on how it should sound. It's either the composers or lyricists who do these demos. An idol from SM Entertainment is very much known for it.
In July 2017, Li Mei Xing or widely known as Heather from WayV was announced as a rookie under the company. The CEO himself scouted her when he held a talk in her college.
Before she debuted, she did demos for Taemin's 'Move', Red Velvet's 'Bad Boy', Moonlight Melody', 'Sassy Me' and 'Butterflies', EXO's '24/7', 'Been Through', 'Love Shot', Ooh La La La', and 'Sweet Lies', NCT U's 'Baby Don't Stop', NCT 127's 'Touch', 'Welcome To My Playground', 'No Longer', and NCT Dream's 'Beautiful Time'. All of this information was revealed in her 'Research Note' with her members. She said that it served as her training.
"When I did these demos, I wondered why I was assigned to such tasks. I mean, the CEO did not hear me sing when he scouted me so I thought maybe because I had what people call 'the perfect SM face'. During the recording for the demo of Ooh La La La for EXO-sunbaenim, I asked the composers why they chose me for the assignment and they said that the CEO wants to see my range in singing and I think it's a reasonable cause."
Aside from doing demos, she also once was partnered to dance a duo with Taemin for 'MOVE' which garnered attention for the rookie at that time.
It is not known if she is still doing demos up to this day but fans are wishing for these demos to be released.
