She looked a bit childish and that makes a small smile tug on the sides of his lips.
Lola could feel his eyes on her and she looked up to see Demilade staring at her. He had a small smile playing on his lips and she wondered why. He looked away from her and the smile disappeared.
"How was your trip?" She asked.
"Successful." Was his short reply.
She nodded in reply and an awkward silence fell between them.
"I need to go and rest. I will see you at dinner or probably tomorrow morning." Demilade said breaking the silence and he stood up.
"Okay." She replied to him and he walked away while Lola sat watching his retreating. She sighed and pick up her phone.
Demilade wasn't able to come down for dinner and no one bothered him. The next morning after he woke up, he went for his morning exercise but he didn't use the gym room. He wanted to feel the natural air on his skin and he had missed the smell and familiar feeling he got from being in his mother's land. No matter how odd, how uncomfortable and very annoying things can be in the country he still feels at home in his own country.
Being rich made him realize a lot of things. He remembered when he was young, he heard people talking about the beautiful tales of the white countries. And how everyone wants to go over there. Some even went to an extreme length of taking illegal routes just to leave their own country.
He also became like them at some point in time. He also wanted to leave Nigeria and go to a white country where he could have a better life and better education. But that never came. And he was grateful for what he had become now. The hardship in his country had taught him a lot, it had made him who he was and in that same place where he had felt like he didn't belong, he was now a god there.
Travelling from one country to the other for business and sometimes for a little pleasure had made him know that there wasn't a place like home.
Although the country was still lacking in many ways. It hasn't developed like most of white countries but everything is still available for the citizens. You don't have to be afraid of stepping on the wrong shoe, there was no need to fear about being caught and deported, no worry about racism, no worries about trying to be among and there was no worry about coming back home without anything to prove off.
Many of them are there living a life of slavery. They might have a lot of things, the security, the insurance, the opportunity of being among the white. But not all are lucky. Not all get to work tirelessly. Not all got to feel among. There was always something missing in them. And that is being away from home.
Then he wondered why many rich people still got to stay in their own country when they got the money to go to any country they wants to. He now knows why. There would never be considered a god except in their own home. In their country. They won't feel that need, power and praise from a white man but from their people.
Yeah, they might send their kids over there. But it was for them to have good experiences, to have a better and faster education and to live a comfortable life for the time being but most times, they always returned. Because they are well accepted and needed in their own country.
There are demigods in their father's land. And not just that, they've got the money to make them get anything they want.
To those with fewer privileges, it might be hard, life might be unfair, foodstuffs might be too expensive, and there might be poor security but to the rich, the good privilege, there was none of those things that their money can't get for them, so they do not have to go to other countries to feel like they have achieved something. Going to other countries is just a means to have fun and pleasure. Not an accomplishment.
