It had been three days. They had narrowed down none of the other bases. While the Vongola searched; Sonic, Shadow, and Rouge were being left behind in the Vongola's base. Rouge had tried arguing the same point she had to Cassidy to Kaida, but to no avail. Kaida told them they'd just be in the way. This caused Rouge to plot against their wishes. Shadow and Sonic did not mind however. Rouge unrolled the copy of the map Kaida had on the table. She said "Which one to do first?" Sonic said "Not the one near water. We can save that for last." Shadow snorted. Figures he'd say that. Shadow looked around the map and immediately spotted one base in an area he had already been.

Shadow pointed at that one and said "This one. End of Discussion." Rouge nodded. Rouge began packing ropes, guns, and food. Rouge said "We'll go out in the veil of night. We should not cross through the Nammiori division of the base because Hibari sleeps there. I doubt we'll get passed him if we go that way." Sonic said "Okay!" Shadow just nodded. Later that night... Rouge, Shadow, and Sonic snuck out of the base easily. What they didn't know was that someone watched them do this. Said person smirked. She said "Let the fun begin." Shadow looked behind him to find no one. He figured he was being paranoid. They continued on.

Once at the destination, Shadow looked around. There were no guards out and about. He could have been wrong. Sonic said "Something doesn't feel right." Rouge stated "It's quiet. Too quiet." Shadow nodded. The next thing that Shadow could see was black. Nothing else. His eye twitched. He thought 'I should have seen this coming. They are stronger than Kay.' He came to a few hours later. He was in a cell and his arms were chained to the wall. Shadow looked around. He could see a pair of blue eyes looking at him. He said "Rouge, what happened?" Rouge replied "I don't know." A pair of striking brown eyes opened slightly. A voice said "It's nice... To hear someone I actually know... again."

Shadow immediately recognized the voice. He said "Kay." Kay replied "That's my... name, don't wear it... out..." Rouge asked "Are you alright?" Kay answered "As alright... as I can be... Stupid Byakuran..." Kay's voice sounded weak. Her eyes showed how tired she was. Rouge asked "Where's Sonic?" Kay replied "He's over by Shadow... Still unconscious... The chains have power siphoning abilities... He'll be out for a while..." Kay's eyes closed for a few seconds. Kay stated "I suggest... you rest... The others will... be a while..." Shadow asked "What about you?" Kay chuckled then coughed. Kay replied "I wouldn't worry... If I were you... Survived far worse... I have..."

Shadow looked in the direction of Kay. Rouge said "Talking like Yoda, you stop." Kay chuckled slightly again which ended with several coughs. Kay said "Good to have sense of humor... that it is..." Shadow shook his head. That is definitely Kay. Shadow asked "How bad are your wounds?" Kay replied "Well... Considering that I can't stand... on my legs... I'd have to say... I've got two broken legs... I know I have a gash on my forehead... Other than that,... I don't know..." Shadow's eyes narrowed. Kay was really injured. He looked down at the ground. Kay said "... This isn't your fault, Shadow... At least I'm not dead..." Rouge said "It is. He shouldn't have argued with you like he did."

Kay replied "Wasn't... his fault... That he believed... Masquerade... I got fooled... twice by the bastard... I think... I saw Mukuro... earlier... Not entirely certain, though,... so don't quote me... Now I really think... we should rest..." Kay's eyes closed. Rouge said "Poor Kay... She really needs to get out of here." Shadow said "She's right though. It's no use wasting energy when we can't do anything." Rouge said "Night, Shadow." Shadow 'hmm'ed as a response. He looked at where Kay's eyes had once been. Rouge had fallen asleep. Shadow thought 'I couldn't protect her. Just like she said I wouldn't be able to in the beginning. But what could have been far worse than this?'

He shook his head slightly. Not much could be asked now. Not when she's injured like she was. Shadow closed his eyes. It would do him no good to think on it at this moment.
