"Hizashi," he spoke as if the man were a small child, slowly and clearly. "When we are trying to use means to distract a traumatized person, we do not outright tell them we are trying to distract them. We are subtle and deliberate. Understand?" Yamada nervously smiled, rubbing the back of his neck as he nodded. A small thumbs up was the only thing Aizawa got in return.
Well, the only thing from Hizashi. A small giggled elicited from the side, the green broccoli child sporting a small smile. His eyes were closed, unaware of the two adults staring at him in mild relief. Izuku straightened up, a small gleam in his eye.
"If we're gonna play a game, can I choose?" Shouta looked to Hizashi, who shrugged his shoulders. Shouta turned back to Izuku, nodding.
"Sure, kid. What game?" Izuku smiled excitedly, waving his arms about as he explained the rules. The only thought on the two adults' minds was the fact that he could still act like a child instead of being scared to even talk.
"It's called May I Ask. Basically, you take turns asking each other questions, but you have to begin with the sentence 'may I ask' or you forfeit a turn. You have to tell the truth, no negotiations. Got it?" Izuku looked between the two, eyes gleaming with a childish light. Hizashi smiled brightly with a thumbs up as Shouta gave a curt nod. His face was straight, but if you looked closely (with, like, a microscope or something) you would see a glimmer of fondness.
Izuku smiled, apparently trying to rival Hizashi, as he sat up straight, careful not to aggravate any wounds. "Alright, I go first, then it's Present Mic Sensei, then Mr. Aizawa." He pointed to each person as he listed them. "Okay, uuummm..... May I Ask..... who popped the question?!"
Shouta choked on thin air as Hizashi coughed, a bright red creeping onto his face. When Shouta finally came up for air after he recovered, he elbowed Hizashi's side. "You're answering this one, ass." Hizashi pouted, before a smirk creeped up onto his mischievous face. Shouta internally groaned as Mic leaned forward, poking Shouta's chest playfully.
"Are you embarrassed, Shouta~?" A light shade of red creeped onto the tired man's face as he pushed his husband away, scowling slightly. He crossed his arms and looked the other way, refusing to answer. Hizashi laughed as he turned back to the eagerly waiting child. His voice gained a dramatic lilt as he whispered out his answer.
"Well..... it was totally me. Shouta is wa~y too shy for that." Shouta slapped his husband, earning a laugh from the blonde.
"What?! It's true!"
"I will strangle you with this scarf, try me."
"Scary!"
Izuku laughed, awkwardly scooting forward to sit closer to the two men. He closed it in a small triangle, sitting eagerly on his bed. He pointed to his English teacher. "Okay, it's Present Mic's turn! Ask a question!"
Hizashi tapped his chin, appearing to be deep in thought. Aizawa smiled fondly as he looked between the two. He didn't want it to end, for the doctor to arrive and ruin all of this. Not when Izuku was happy, enjoying a simple game with his teacher. Shouta sighed, the smile falling off his face. If he had just gotten to Midoriya faster, the child wouldn't be sitting in a hospital room playing a game to distract himself from what he already knew.
Shouta was broken out of his stupor by Hizashi's question, which was almost as ridiculous as Izuku's. "So..... ah, wait! May I Ask, has Bakugou come close to killing you recently? You know, in a friendly manner." Aizawa shook his head, amazed by how bad his husband was at this. Of course, that was probably the point of the game.
