Bet
"Wait.. (y/n)?"
"..Hwei-ru?"
She was wearing an average bakery uniform, her long, raven hair tied up in a ponytail.
She smiled at me. "Well.. I didn't expect to meet another Leaf Village on my first day. How can I help you, (y/n)?"
Jun stepped up from behind me. "Jun's here, too?" She said.
I looked at Jun. "Oh, yeah. My mom told us to get something for dinner, and we didn't really know what, so we came here." I explained.
"Ah, that makes sense. Well, we have bread rolls here, if you'd like some. It's for sure a lot better than the stuff we got on the boats!" Hwei-ru smiled. "Yeah, we'll take some of that. How much?" I said, walking up to the counter.
"That's 2 copper pieces for each roll! How many do you want?" She asked.
"I'll take 3, thank you."
"Alright, that's 6 copper pieces."
I reached into my bag and handed her the copper pieces- which I just now realized looked like the Earth symbol. A circle with a square hole in the middle.
"Thank you! I'll see you later, ok?" Hwei-ru waved as we left.
"Ok, see ya!" I said, waving back.
We left the store, and started walking in the direction we came from.
"I can't wait to get home. I just want to sleep." I said.
"You aren't the only one.." Jun replied.
We both sighed, and continued walking.
————————
"(Y/n), my feet hurttt......" Jun whined.
"What do you expect me to do about it?"
"Can you carry me?"
"No way! Just walk. You're way too heavy for me to carry."
"Ughhhh...."
Jun and I walked through the market.
We were lost.
Of course, I didn't tell Jun that. He might freak out, and that won't help at all.
"(Y/n), why have we been walking for so long? It didn't take us this long to get to the marketplace.. are you doing extra shopping or something?" Jun asked.
Oh no, he's suspicious
"What do you mean? We haven't been walking for that long. And no, I'm not looking to buy anything else."
"You haven't noticed how long it's been? Jeez, if we're going to spend so much time walking, we could at least go to the tea shop." Jun pointed to the shop Zuko and Iroh work at. Jet wasn't there anymore.
Well, we're not lost anymore.
I know how to get home from here.
"You know, Jun, there are probably outsiders working in that shop." I warned.
"It's possible someone from the Village of Leaves got a job here, like how Hwei-ru got a job at that bakery." Jun argued.
"Whatever. We probably shouldn't spend more money than we already have. Let's go home." I said, grabbing Jun's arm and walking away.
"6 copper pieces isn't that much, you know!"
"Yeah, whatever!"
Eventually, Jun and I got home.
"Finally, it felt like we've been out for hours!" Jun complained.
"Shut up, it's only been a few minutes." I said, reaching into my bag, and taking out the key mom gave me.
Using the key, I opened the door, and we went inside.
"No it hasn't! It's definitely been more than 30 minutes." Jun argued.
"Ugh, I don't care anymore. Let me sleep." I said, setting the bag of food down, and laying down on my futon.
It wasn't very comfortable.
But honestly, at this point, I'm used to it.
After all, I only had a blanket to sleep on until now.
"I'm so glad we got these." Jun said, laying on his futon.
"Yeah."
We bought these futons on our way to our new house.
Of course, we didn't think to get food while we were already out.
Stupid.
