Josh P.O.V.

I woke up slowly. Devon was still sleeping peacefully in my arms. The movie, by now, was almost over. I looked over at the clock and sighed. Nine o'clock. I would soon have to leave. I wish I could always stay with Devon.

I remember the first time I met Devon. In the third grade, I transferred mid-way through the school year. She was shy at first, but I changed that quickly. She had beautiful black hair that cascaded down her back like a black waterfall. Her eyes were a mysterious deep blue and as endless as the ocean.

In ninth grade, everything started to change. The changes were subtle at first. Then, the question came. "Do you like me?" she asked. I had never thought of Devon as anything more than just a friend. I had no idea what my true feelings were. Do I like her? Do I not? The answer finally came to me, it was yes. "Yes, I do."

From then on, it was all a beautiful dream.

I was just content to have Devon to hold in my arms. I felt her weight shift under me as she woke up.

I blinked my eyes as they adjusted to the light of the TV. Josh was still holding me in his arms. I love Josh. Just two more years, then we can marry.

The next day...

I couldn't focus on anything the teacher was saying. I could only think of Josh. He clouded my mind, for some reason, more than usual today.

Devon was spaced out again. I always like to sit one row over and one seat behind, so I can keep an eye on her. I tapped my pencil nervously on my desk, waiting for the day to be over so I could spend my time with Devon.

After school...

As soon as the bell rang, I was out of the classroom and headed strait for the parking lot. Josh never locks his car so I threw my bag in the backseat and sat on the trunk of his silver car. Josh came walking over with his black backpack slung over one shoulder. I smiled in delight.

"Hello." he greeted me with a smile, and kissed me on the forehead. The skin tingled where his lips had touched me. I hoped off the trunk and got into the passenger side of the car.

"Well," he began "where to?"

I thought for a moment. "Umm... The Grand Ole'Park!" I exclaimed in my best British accent.

"And to the park we go." he joked back in a British accent. We laughed, and I thought about us in the future, sitting on a porch together with grey hair, laughing, crying, and reminiscing.

At the park...

We parked in a parking garage a few blocks away from the park and walked the rest of the way. We walked hand-in-hand down a lonely city street.

"You're so tiny." he commented, patting my head.

"No, you're just so big." I returned. He smiled his goofy smile. When we got to the park, we walked around for a while, enjoying each other's company. Out of the blue, raindrops began to fall from the sky. I put my hand out and looked up. The big drops hit my face. Josh just smiled at me.

"You know that we didn't bring any umbrellas?" he laughed.

"Why do you always have to ruin the fun?!" I whined. I broke free from his grip and began to run across the park to get to the shops on the other side.

"No fair." he complained as he ran beside me. I smiled.

"Who said I was fair?!" I yelled at him.

We ran across the beautiful park. The rain had never looked so beautiful; it was like thousands of brilliant diamonds falling from the heavens. By the time we got to the first shop we saw, we were soaking wet.

Clerk P.O.V.

I watched as a couple ran into my small jewelry shop. The guy had long "surfer boy" hair, which he shook, sprinkling water all over his girlfriend. I smiled politely at them as they walked over to look at the jewelry.

Devon P.O.V.

I looked at the jewelry through the glass counter. Everything sparkled with brilliance, and then something caught my attention. Promise rings! Two silver rings, one being slightly wider than the other, for the guy, and the other one had a small crystal embedded in it, for the girl. They had the words, Together, engraved on the inside of each ring.

"Hey, look." I told him, pointing my finger on the glass above the rings.

"Oh, yeah. Those look nice." he said smiling. He looked up at the lady behind the counter, "We'll take 'em." he smiled at me, and then kissed me.

The clerk behind the counter handed me a small silk pouch containing the promise rings and I handed her the money. Devon gleamed with excitement. I glanced outside. The rain was still falling, but the sun was coming out again. I flipped the pouch over and dumped the contents into my hand.

I saw him take the rings out of the bag. He took the ring meant for his girlfriend and slipped it on her ring finger.

"I promise." I heard him whisper.

"And I promise." she whispered back, slipping the other ring on his finger.

They held hands as they walked out of my shop. Many couples had gotten promise rings at my store before, but this time something felt different...

Devon P.O.V.

We walked out of the store together. I lifted up my hand to admire the beautiful ring Josh had just bought me. It shined dazzlingly in the newly emerged sunlight. We laughed and talked all the way to the car in complete and total bliss.
