Kagami's POV
Weaving through the crowds, blood and adrenalin pulsing through my veins. Sasori guided me in no particular direction at all. Suddenly he swerved us into the dark alleyway that he and Deidara graffitied on earlier.
Finally stopping to catch a breath, I noticed he was in a cold sweat, eyes wide and delusional- he was badly shaken up. He released his grip on my hand and stared at me, gaze drifting across my features. Exasperated, I stared back, waiting for him to do something.
Without warning, he gripped my arm and spun me around, pinning me against the wall. His other hand cupped my face as he crashed his lips against mine. My eyes, once wide in shock drifted slowly to a blissful close. This was different from before, this was hungrier, needier and more passionate. He turned his head deepening the kiss, his other hand made its way down my back in a gentle caress. After a few more glorious moments, we broke apart, each of us gasping for air.
"We're safe now." He said, strafing himself.
"Safe from what?" I questioned, the buzz of just now still fresh on my lips.
"My past. "
"What past?" I asked again.
"Mine."
"You know that's not what I meant."
"You know that your endless pestering is futile."
"Well sorry for caring."
He pat my head and smiled, that kind that didn't reach his eyes. I've seen him pull this smile out on Deidara once or twice before- It signified that this conversation was over, no questions asked. I looked at him, scanning his face for a sign of emotion: sadness, grief, remorse. But my efforts, as like before, were also futile. He was blank as a sheet of paper, staring into open space without a even a single trace of feeling on his face.
When he finally looked back at me and caught me staring, I quickly turned my head away, cheeks reddening at the feeling of his eyes on me. He chuckled and took my hand again. "Let's go back." I nodded and we headed back to the college. On the way back, the only thoughts that filled my head were about him, his past, and the feeling of his lips against mine.
I decided to drop this. For now.
Sasori's POV
That was too close. Way too close.
What did she want? What was her business here? Why was she looking for me again? I tried to hide my frustration on my face on the way back. I unconsciously clenched my jaw and curled my other hand into a fist.
In attempt to distract myself from any further destructive thoughts, I tried to spark up a conversation. But before I uttered a word, she asked "What are we?". Looking at her with an eyebrow arched I answered "What are we?"
"You know, what?"
"I know what?"
"You're unbelievable."
"We're not just friends anymore I can tell you that." I said, a smirk spreading across my face. A small smile appeared on her face, replacing the serious expression she was wearing before.
"Very close friends?" She chided.
"Extremely close friends."
I held her hand tighter and we entered the college grounds.

Kagami's POV
Dinner was amazing. Konan whipped up enough seafood lasagna to serve an army- which was apparently just enough to fill the bottomless pits that were the Akatsuki's bellies. We dined in Konan and Pein's dorm, it was a little tight considering there were 12 people practically shoved into the shoebox apartment. I was wedged between Akira and Deidara on the minuscule sofa.
Deidara was having an eating competition with Tobi to see who could scarf the most lasagna down their throats. Meanwhile Akira was giggling beside me whilst watching and poking fun at the blonde artist.
I on the other hand was mentally giving Sasori a once over. He was having a rather animated conversation- probably about the lack of funds- with Kakuzu. Studying his defined jawline to his muscular shoulders all the way down to his delicate fingertips- The fingertips that trailed along my skin that afternoon- I snapped myself out of that thought long enough to notice that he had caught me staring again and was staring right back at me. He gave me a cheeky wink and excused himself from the conversation and made his way towards me.
Freeing myself from my seat on the sofa, I met him halfway and wrapped my arms around his waist. "Hello, my extremely close friend." I said, barely keeping the smile off my face, he chuckled. "Let's get out of here." He wrapped an arm around my waist and we headed out the door.
We were running through the hallways, desperate not to get caught. We took a shortcut down a flight of stairs and went to the open field. We took our places on a hard marble bench right underneath a tree.
Laughing uncontrollably, we sat down. This resembled an uncanny amount to some old cheesy romance novel that unmarried women in their late 30's would read. But it also reminded me of that night at the aquarium, before things went awry. I pushed that thought out of my mind and smiled at him. And this time, he smiled back.
