Invisible String

"ALL OKAY?!" Joe said rushing to your room.

"My best friend, Y/BF/N is engaged!!!" You exclaimed doing your little happy dance which made him laugh.

"Oh that's great news!" He said joining in on your dance.

You two were dancing and you didn't even notice him getting closer to you in the excitement.

"Y/N.." He said softly which made you hault and realize the little space which was between you two.

You looked up to him with your heart beating so fast you were afraid he might hear.

"What was all the excitement about?" Zoe said coming to your room and you pushed him off immediately.

"Oh that. Umm...Y/BF/N is getting married." You said smiling.

"Oh that's great news!!" She said hugging you.

You looked at Joe from the corner of your eyes and he ran his hands through his hair, a habit he has when he's frustrated.

I have to control myself when I'm with him or else he might get the wrong idea. You thought.

Your phone rang interuppting your thoughts and you smiled at the name.

"Hey girll!! Congratulations!!" You exclaimed.

"Thank youu! Can you believe I'm engaged now? OH MY GOD!" She beamed.

Joe's POV

As she talked to Y/BF/N, I just went out to get some fresh air. 

What just happened?

Y/N is my friend. My best friend, in fact. And I can't let my stupid feelings come in between us. 

She wouldn't date a guy like me. 

She said it herself. To Zoe.

Then why can't I control myself when I'm with her? 

I sat on a bench a little away from my home and just staring at the dark night sky.

"I've been looking everywhere for you." 

And there she stood. The exact girl who has my heart beating like crazy when she's next to me. The same girl whom I can't go a day without. 

The same girl I fell in love with.

"Where did you go all of a sudden? I was searching everywhere for you." She said sitting on the bench next to me.

"I just needed some fresh air." I said looking straight ahead. She sighed.

"Joe.."

"What are we, Y/N? What am I to you?" 

"You're my best friend. What's the doubt in that?" She said and I sighed.

"Is that all what I mean to you?" I said turning to face her which she didn't reciprocate.

Silence.

"Y/N, you cannot deny what's between us. I really am in love with you. You light up my day with just your presence, you are so beautiful even with just a jumper and a messy bun, you make my heart go all crazy when you laugh. I fall for you more and more every single day no matter how hard I deny." I said and she looked at me teary-eyed.

"Joe, I'm not denying because I don't feel the same. I'm denying whatever is between us because I don't know what the others will think with our 1 year age gap. I come from a pretty place with an extremely judgemental society and dating guys who're younger than you just isn't their thing. I don't want to act on my feeling and end up seeing you hurt in the end." She explained, a tear rolling down her eyes.

"I don't give two shits of what the others think. As long as there are people, there are always going to be comments against any relationship. There's always people who try to bring you down. When we go above all of that, we win. We love each other and that's all that matters. As long as I have you with me, nothing can ever hurt me okay?" I assured and she smiled.

"Can I kiss you?" I asked nervously. She smiled and nodded.

And our lips met in a sweet kiss and I couldn't have felt happier than I am right now. 

After waiting for so long, we're going somewhere with us. 

And no more denying.

"Isn't it pretty to think all along there was some invisible string tying you to me?" She said smiling and I smiled back.

"I love you, Y/N."

"I love you too, Joe."
