In Astrology, there are five dignities but at first, I suggest your focus on three. These can show whether a planet will be influential or not.

Exalted
This is when a placement is treated like royalty. It is lifted up and empowered. Exalted placements can overshadow those around them.

Fallen
This is when a placement is weak. It has a hard time being represented and functioning but can still be of some detriment. Fallen placements can weaken those around them.

Exiled
This is when a placement has no effect. It can be uncomfortable in that placement and has a hard time functioning. Exiled placements have no effect on those around them.

Each planet has its own Exaltation, Fall, and Exilation. These are important when reading someone's chart as you can see whether their placements will be powerful or not in their houses.
