"What the hell is wrong with you?!" I stare my reflection sharply in the eyes. I can barely recognize myself anymore. Nothing about me feels right. I am lost and I am nothing.
Now that Summer is here I am forced to put on that skirt for school that I had been dreading all of spring. I can no longer use the cold weather as an excuse to wear the uniform pants. So, for now a beanie is the only thing I have to hide gods mistake.
I stare at myself a little harder. Why do I feel this way? Why can't I just be normal. I reach for the scissors on my desk and hold them firmly in my hand-
"Samantha... Samantha!" My mom shouts from downstairs like she has done every day when the school bus arrives. I quickly put the scissors back, grab my beanie, and walk down the stairs to the door. My mom gives me my lunch and tugs on the beanie.
"Sammy, its summer you don't need a hat." she says, and continues to tug at the beanie in my hand. I resist her and she finally lets go. "Whatever, hurry up your gonna miss the bus again." she says with slight annoyance in her voice.
The bus is always empty when I get on because I am the first stop and none of my friends ride the bus. I pick seat 18. It is perfectly in the middle of the bus where I can drown out the loud kids in the back and avoid the awkward tension with the people in the front. I pick seat 18 everyday because I can blend in and go unnoticed. I catch my reflection through the window of the bus and put on my beanie.

"Allison... Bentley!" I shout to them as I hop off the last step of the bus. We are only really friends because our parents are close. Allison has a thing for Bentley I can tell but Id rather not bring it up because i'll only bring them closer, and once they get close they'll date, breakup, and we'll all split up in the end. I may be overthinking but I can't risk it. They are all I have.
