A/N: Hey all! Thank you for reading! I have had this story idea for a while now (it dates back to my Directioner phase haha) and I finally decided to give it a shot. I hope you enjoy!
Waking up on the first of November without a headache or the tendency to run to the bathroom and throw up was definitely a first for Kate. She opened her windows to be greeted by a florid orange sky and shivers ran down her spine as the cold wind touched her bare skin. She put her white, fluffy bathrobe on and grabbed the weekly schedule off her desk.
Sitting down on her bed again she could not help but think about where she was last year. She looked at her alarm: 07.15.
I would probably still be wasted, lying in an unfamiliar bed with some unfamiliar frat boy that reeks of cheap tequila and beer. She thought to herself. As soon as I woke up I would have grabbed my clothes while desperately trying to remember what happened in bed that night and hoping to not have gotten an STD. I would put on my slutty Halloween outfit while stumbling down the stairs and start my day with yet another walk of shame.
Halloween had always been Kate's favourite holiday, but this year things were a bit different. As much as she would have loved to spend another night creating memories that she would have forgotten a few hours later, it's probably for the best that she didn't this year.
She looked at the schedule for this week. The activities planned for today actually seemed fun for once. She especially looked forward to the music session and the fact that there would be lots of free time in between sessions and chores.
Being quite excited about what today will bring, she put on her Zero's car radio vibes playlist and hopped in the shower while jamming along to Don't Go Chasing Waterfalls.
What a way to start my 9th day in rehab.
Breakfast consisted of eggs with bacon and a small bowl of yoghurt with blueberries and cruesli. Annoyed at the loud arguing happening behind me, Kate sat down and asked a nursing assistant for a cup of coffee.
She turned around to see that the people arguing were Quincy and Peter, which wasn't really surprising. The two of them came in last week and have developed some kind of aversion to one another. They're both arrogant and convinced of the fact that there is no need for them to be here. Everything they do, however, proves that they are exactly where they need to be.
Another nursing assistant, May, brought Kate her coffee and asked if she had gotten a good night's rest, ignoring the ongoing argument of Quincy and Peter.
"Thank you for the coffee, May. I slept fine. I actually feel good today. I have the feeling today is going to be a good day." She smiled at her and took a sip of the hot coffee. She wasn't really a fan of coffee before, except for the times when she had to take an all-nighter in order to finish papers or assignments in time, but she has been starting to like it more and more over the last couple of days.
She really did feel like today would be a good day. The weather was nice, there were some fun activities planned, and she had something to look forward to: visiting day tomorrow.
"That's really nice to hear, Kate. Today is going to be a good day, I'm sure of it." May's smile was warm and genuine. She nodded and proceeded to assist other people who probably needed her help more than Kate did.
May is a good person. She is kind and helping, but doesn't try to force anything. She has a calming voice, and there have been times that her voice was one of the few things that were able to calm Kate down.
The other thing just walked into the common dining area: Tom.
