Then Demilade looked up from the computer and moved his chair slightly so he could see his friend.
"Sorry for that." He said and he gazed at his friend. A smile crawled up his face when he noticed Bayo was wearing a suit.
He knew his friend is not a fan of suits. Instead, he prefers to wear a shirt and trousers. But he was wearing one that day. It was an improvement.
"It's fine. Should we start?" He asked.
He was in his office because they have some important business they were doing together and he had agreed to come over to Demilade office. His brother also needs a construction company and Demilade is his number one choice.
"Okay," Demilade said. And Bayo hands him a file. He took it and began to scroll through it.
They continued with their meeting for a while. Bayo said after they were done.
"And there is the boat club we talk about. The government had decided to sell the land to you. But there are some conditions." Bayo said proudly.
"I know I will win sooner or later. Don't worry I will talk to the minister in charge. And thanks." He appreciated.
"It's nothing. Now that is settled." Bayo said.
"Yes. We will call a meeting next week." Demilade said.
"That's fine with me." He nodded."Our dreams are coming to reality best man."
Demilade smiled."Yes, we are going to do it." He leaned back on his seat comfortably.
Bayo studied his friend and he could tell something was off with him. His smile was not reaching his eyes. And this was something he had been wishing for. There was no reason why he shouldn't be happy. Except something was wrong. And he was trying to act okay.
"Is anything the problem Demmy?" He asked.
"Nothing."
"You sure about that? You are looking strange." Bayo voice out his thought. "It looks like you didn't sleep last night. Your eyes look heavy. Did last night's clubbing take a toll on you?
"You know it doesn't mean much." He replied. And he contemplated telling his friend about what was going on. "I fought with Lola yesterday."
"Is this the usual fight or what?" Bayo asked but he already knows the answer just by looking at him. And what surprised him the most was Demilade felt guilty.
He was looking guilty which is almost impossible. He hardly felt guilty for anything he does. Most times he thinks he is right. That had been the stubborn side of him he had learned to accept a long time ago. And it felt new and annoying to others.
"What happened? Do you instigate the fight?"
"Yes." He muttered. "I had said some things that I was not supposed to say." And he explained what happened to his friend and his wrong choice of words. And Lola threatens to end the deal.
Bayo stared at him for a while. He didn't just want to interfere the previous night. He knew something was wrong with how Demilade was acting last night since Lola excused herself from the group.
"Say something Bayo. Are you too giving me the silent treatment?" He asked his friend.
Bayo could see he was angry and at the same time feeling hurt. The fears were also in his eyes. Something very rare. He had not seen him so emotional in a long time.
"Bayo, you didn't have to tell me that I told you this will happen. I know. It has happened. I don't know what to do anymore." He confessed. "This is harder than it seems."
