Chapter 26

"T-Tanjiro."
I grip my sword tighter, glaring at the ground.
This is up to me and Inosuke now. It's our duty to take down this demon. Twelve Kizuki or not!

"Inosuke."
I turn to him, seeing him mildly stunned at what just happened.

"What?"

"Let's take this demon down together, okay?"
I give him a confident smile, and he seems to perk up with excitement.

"Got it!"

We dodge the oncoming blow, Inosuke lifting the biggest boulder he could to toss it at the demon, to almost no avail.

I struggle as I try to think up a plan, anything. If this demon had such thick arms, I doubt the neck with be any easier. Not to mention the fact it's one of the Twelve Kizuki.

Twelve... Kizuki...

"Oi! Demon!"
It turned to me now.
"There's a member of the Twelve Kizuki I want to know about! His name is Ame!"

It ignored me, nearly hitting me before I could dodge. I might as well do my hardest to get all the information from it while I can.
"Tch! Lower Moon Four! Tell me about Lower Moon Four!"

It just growled and kept ignoring me as it hit wherever it could see, repeating the same words.
"Stay away from my family!"

We tried our hardest to dodge and survive, but we did get plenty of hits, the two of us weakened as we stood behind a tree, hiding.

"This... This is so hard..."
I whisper between breaths, praying my breaths are silent enough.

"You're not giving up, are you, M/N?!"
Inosuke growled, matching my volume.

"Of course not! Tanjiro needs us to live, so I'm not quitting."

Inosuke grabbed my arm and pulled me against him behind the tree.
"It's close."

The demon now turning our direction, we did our best to keep quiet and not move, still lacking a plan of action as we mildly panic. I hear something drip, looking down, only to notice bloody trails on the ground, loud footsteps following.

"Inosuke, we need to run."
I whisper to him.

"What? Why?"

I point to the ground, and he notices the stains as well.
"Damnit."

"We need a plan."
I whisper as quietly as possible, barely hearing myself.

"How do you slash someone who's sword-proof?"
He grumbled.

"If we can defeat a demon with no head, we can take this one down too."

Right as we're getting ready to bolt, Inosuke pulls me out of the way as our protective tree is smashed into bits, making us run like hell.

"This is bad! This is really bad!"
He yells, running ahead of me.

"We have to hold it off until Tanjiro gets back! That's our best shot at winning!"
I look back to see a boulder flying my way, Inosuke destroying it in time.
