|3| Please Don't Care About Me, I'm Not Worth It

Start from the beginning

"Oh, um... yeah, she's gotten a bit better. I'll be buying a pack of Ramen for her tomorrow, so there's that." The guard looked at him with confusion. "What about you?" Midoriya wasn't expecting that. "I'll be fine! I've got Lunch Rush's food, and I'm not that hungry a lot of the time anyways! Besides, I don't need all that food, I've got to stay in shape! Anyways, here's my I.D." Midoriya handed her his I.D. card, not wanting to sit around talking for another twenty years. The guard took it and swiped the card in a machine, handing it back after a green light shone. "Alright, take care Midoriya." "I will! Bye!" Midoriya took of towards his house, waving behind him.

"Guys! Midoriya's back! Come on, come on, hurry up!" A small girl with coffee colored skin who was the size of about three bees stacked on top of each other yelled, fluttering her small wings at a quick pace. The girl's name was Karu Neito, she was sixteen years old. Karu wore an oversized hoodie with a black and yellow pattern and she had two yellow antenna perched on her head. If you looked closely, you could see tiny stinger like black shapes protruding from a fold in her wrist. Midoriya laughed as the small girl apparently decided flying was too hard and opted to instead take residence in his fluffy hair. A few moments later, three more children came running up. There was Ryuko Horikage. He had blue and black hair as well as two brown antlers on his head. He had gotten his clothes about two months ago, but they were already tattered. His quirk was Charmspeak, the ability to overpower one's will.

The second was Ibarra Itsuka. She had light skin and a quirk almost exactly like Shiozaki's save for the fact that Ibarra grew thorns in it, and the vines could emit poisonous sap. The last was Ochana Kerosena. She had light brown skin and orange and black hair done up in a messy ponytail. Her quirk gave her the ability to create kerosene, a highly flammable substance. The second the substance touched an objest, it would be set on fire.

But the tattered clothes and quirks weren't the source of attention. The scars were. Neito had a scar running from one side of her face to the other, in the shape of three claw marks. Ryuko had a pale scar running down from his right eye to below his mouth. Ibarra was missing an eye and the vines that made up her hair were a dying brown. She covered the eye up with an eyepatch that had a red rose on it. Kerosena didn't have a scar though. She had black kerosene mixed with blood dripping from her eyes, not unlike tears. The thing was, the dripping was constant. It never stopped, but Ochana didn't seem to mind it much anymore.

"Hey Midoriya! Did, you... umm..... bring any food?" Ibarra asked hopefully, holding a smaller, more hyper Kerosena's hand in an almost motherly way. Ryuko stood with them, looking just as hopeful and Midoriya felt a heavy brick of guilt take place somewhere in his stomach. "Sorry guys..... but I did make some money today! I can go shopping tomorrow, okay?" Izuku amended. "Hey, it's fine. Anyways, you should go help out your mom. She was pretty worried when you didn't get back yesterday." Ryuko said, jabbing his thumb toward Midoriya's house. Knowing Midoriya would want some privacy, Karu fluttered off his head and relocated on Ryuko's. Midoriya's guilt immediately got worse. How could I make my mom worry about me so much?! Thanks Ryuko! Hey, I'll see you guys later, okay?" Midoriya walked off toward his house, anxious to talk to his mother.

Midoriya slowly opened the door to his house, trying to keep the loud creaking to a minimum. He shut the door as silently as possible, knowing that his mother was most likely asleep. He found he was right when he saw Inko sleeping silently on the couch, a comfortable quilt keeping her warm and fluffy pillows propping her up, her dark green hair splayed around her head. Midoriya had worked hard and completely neglected his need for clothes or food to make sure his mother was comfortable. As it was, so long as Izuku was there, there wasn't a single moment where she wasn't as comfortable as possible. The only thing he couldn't fix was the lack of a decent heater, or the creaky couch with springs popping out of it. Izuku silently traveled to the beat up kitchen and opened the cupboard with Inko's medicine in it. He swatted away the small spiderweb that had begun to form on the side of the pill bottle.

He grabbed some bottled water and took out a singular pill. We're almost out.... that new bottle better get here soon. I knew I shouldn't have had it shipped! He walked over to the couch and leaned down beside his mom. He had to keep himself from letting tears appear in his eyes. She looked peaceful in her sleep, but being sick and the heater being broken had made her as pale as the day Izuku found her on the floor of the cleaning closet. He shook his head. His mom was fine, and anyways, she needed to be woken up for her medication. He gently shook the (unhealthily) thin woman and gently spoke into her ear. "Mom. Mom, you need to wake up." Inko stirred in her sleep and she slowly opened her eyes.

"Izuku? Baby, where were you yesterday? Are you alright, sweetheart?" She tried to sit up but Izuku just propped up the pillows before gently pushing her back down. "I'm fine, mom. But I'm more worried about you, did you take your medicine yesterday? Are you doing alright? Are you too cold or hot?" Izuku fretted over her, opening the water bottle before giving it to her. Inko simply laughed. "You worry too much sweetheart. I'm fine, you know that, the pills have been helping as well. Back to the subject at hand, though. Izuku, where were you? I know I'm in position to be making millions of rules or be strict, but....." Inko trailed off before swallowing the pill with with a drink of water. Izuku got up and grabbed a broom, starting to sweep up the dust coating the floor. He usually started cleaning when he was nervous, finding that having something to do with his hands helped.

"Izuku....?" Midoriya sighed. He couldn't beat around the bush any longer. "Mom, I...... okay, I've got good news, I've got bad news. Which one first?" Midoriya said, trying to make the situation better than it was. Inko seemed worried, but eventually settled on asking for the good news first. "Okay.... good news! I made some money today off a few bets and a street performance at a birthday party." Inko frowned. "Why do you get involved with that gang? You could get hurt!" Izuku shrugged it off and started dusting off the cupboards while trying to rub the mold off. "It's fine mom, they're completely friendly so long as I'm entertaining. The important thing is I've got money and can go shopping soon. 'Sides, your medication should be here soon, so there's that."

Izuku tried to be casual about the fact they were living in a state where having enough money for a week of three meals was a lucky streak, but Inko saw through it. "Hon.... you don't need to pretend. And don't say you aren't. Now..... the bad news? Might as well get it over with." Inko gave a small few coughs and Izuku's stomach turned, the brick of guilt in his stomach becoming more like lead. I'm so sorry mom........

"Look..... I'm sorry mom, but I....." Izuku took in a deep breath. He knew his mother wouldn't be mad, but she would be upset. And it was Izuku's fault. He had screwed up, and now they would have even less money. They might not even be able to get another bottle of medication. Please forgive me, I'm so sorry.

"Izuku, sweetheart, you know you can tell me anything." That's what I'm afraid of. "I won't be mad." It would be so much easier than seeing you sad. "Just..... please?"

Izuku took a deep breath before speaking. Might as well just do it quickly, like ripping off a bandage.

"Mom, I-i screwed up. All three of my jobs. I got fired."

Mwahahaha! Angst here and angst there, there is angst everywhere! It sucks to be you, it sucks to be me, Deku wishes he was crying his eyes out in a tree! So, you might have noticed this chapter was a lot longer than the previous two. There wasn't much of a cliffhanger, and the part about the happy pills probably wasn't important enough to be the title. That's what you think. Anyhow, i really hope you enjoyed this. Again, I somehow wrote this in one day, but it'll probably go under extreme editing because I never seem to think a chapter is decent. The rest of the chapters will be around the same length, so there's that. Feel free to comment or whatever, while I contemplate my life decisions. Anyways, we've now met the ocs that are actually important! Check the A.N at the beginning for a better description of them. There's a full explanation of their quirks in my art book (that I have for some idiotic reason) but ignore everything else, it's from a different AU that may or may not happen. Anywho, you know the drill. Maybe. Adios, my guys, gals, and nonbinary pals!
