It was sickening. Murder in its self was sickening, but the scene that lay before now retired detective Robert Walton was sickening. It was truly terrifying to think about how another person could do this to there brethren. It had been a perfectly fine winter morning. The snow was thin and pure white from a recent storm, and the sky was a pale blue, but it was all ruined when Robert pulled his squad car into the Standish family's driveway.
Marie Walton had cooked her husband breakfast and packed him lunch, before wishing him well. Robert had no desire to even touch that lunch when he entered the Standish garage.
Bree and Trenton Standish owned a beautiful suburban house. Their three young children would play in the front yard while their parents watched from the kitchen window. Bree's black minivan and Trenton's red Honda where parked in the double garage, along with Trentons tools and their children's old toys.
Robert sincerely doubted the children would ever play in the garage again.
Their, there mother lay, Bree was curled in a fetal position, on a white sheet, or at least the sheet used to me white. The wall, the cars the tools the toys and the sheet where all splattered in blood, Bree's hair was splayed out like a crown around her bludgeoned head. She was beaten beyond recognition. Her wedding and engagement rings where sitting on her eyelids, and her fingers where smashed and broken, clasped across her chest in an X.
Trentons hammer was missing from the wall, which Robert assumed was used to kill her.
The entire team immediately thought Trenton had killed his wife, bludgeoned her with his hammer, placed her on their own bedsheet, and taken her rings the symbol of there broken love. That was until they moved the bloody linen sheets, and the cramped fetal body of Bree Standish uncurled. Her hands fell limp to her sides and revealed two things. In her arm carved with a knife was the name "Andrea" Bree's eldest daughter, and the newspaper clipping the most famous piece of evidence in the entire case.
Suspicion bounced around between Trenton and Andrea for a whole year. Did the jealous lover or neglected oldest daughter kill the seemingly loved mother and woman.
Richard pressed to investigate further suspects, actually investigate, take a look at the larger picture. This killing, the fetal body the name the newspaper, the sheet it was all to ritualistic, but the public often settles for the easier option. Trenton killing his wife out of anger and vengeance was the easy option, it made sense. No matter what the crime scene looked like the precinct and public was settled on the obvious suspect.
The Standish's where shunned from society the three young girls and their father disowned by Bree's parents forced to leave their home. Everyone insisted that Trenton killed his wife in cold blood and staged the crime scene.
That was until the 12th of March 2009. Louise Siebricht, found dead in her garage. Dead on a sheet fingers obliterated by a hammer, head busted in rings on her eyes.
Trenton was innocent and the small town now had a ritualistic serial killer on their hands, with no suspects no clear motive. Just newspaper clippings and blood.
