Start from the beginning

And when the stream then ended a few hours later, and Clay said goodbye and goodnight to George, he simply let himself slump backwards in his chair, stroking Patches in his lap gently, and with a small smile nuzzled onto his soft features.

He had finally had fun, smiling, even laughing throughout the stream, with George laughing right alongside with him. But, of course, Clay wasn't destined to be happy, or laughing, or smiling, or really much of anything except for being hopelessly heartbroken...

His phone lit up from the space beside him with a notification from Twitter, saying that you had just tweeted. And, of course, Clay clicked on it immediately.

But the words dancing along the screen, was enough for his one true moment of happiness, to disperse, as if it was never even there to begin with...

Very happy for you guys. Congratulations on the new relationship, hope you're just as happy with each other as I am, you guys were meant to be

Just pressing the "send" button on the reply he had just made, was more than painful. He knew it was coming, he knew you had never been interested in him. But it wasn't that that hurt the most, even if everything else did seem too painful to bear as well, it was that you had used him to get to Nick for what seemed like an eternity. That was what stung the most.

He trusted you enough to show you his face, and he would be damned if he trusted someone like that again, because now, he knew how it ended - two weeks of crying, two weeks of misery, and two weeks of laying in bed with the occasional bottle of alcohol to drown away the sorrows.

No, he wouldn't make the same mistakes again, he wouldn't let himself get hurt like he was now, especially if getting hurt meant feeling like he did now.

But it seemed as if Clay was doomed for heartbreak, because it was all that was ever headed in his direction, but the second it was over... He knew, he wasn't gonna let anyone back in. Because heartbreak wasn't worth trusting someone, especially if it would be ending the way this did.

Heartbreak was for the weak, and for now, Clay was alright with being weak, but the second he would feel better, being weak was over. It was time to toughen up and live his life as happy as he could, even if that meant letting no one else in than those who had never failed to be there for him. Face the real world, toughen up, and don't be weak; the new rules of Clay's new way of living.

And he wasn't gonna betray those rules, like his trust had been broken the second he started finally feeling something.

Happy ending:

Another week passed without a word from Clay, at least towards his fans. He had been talking with some of his friends again on occasion, and had even met up with his good friend, Darryl, after the sandy haired male had insisted they met up at a café over some coffee and muffins when he found out Clay really wasn't feeling all that well.

Clay had remembered how relieving the fresh Florida air felt against his sickly pale skin as he trudged towards the café, and he remembered how it felt to smile - genuinely - once he spotted Darryl sitting at a booth with his square glasses and short sandy hair covered by a cap. Clay also remembered how it had felt to laugh again, and how it felt to not think about his aching chest.
