Mud and Dust

"Run! Run! Run!!" Everything was falling apart. The buildings, the roads. All went upside down in a matter of minutes.

Somehow we knew it was coming. That is what the government has been warning us for. For years now the creatures created by scientists to fight on borders of the nations had backfired. At first and at some point we thought it was under control. But not anymore. However, I had duties to cater and so I did.

"Run to the portals! Be sure you take your groups! In group! No ma'am! To your right! Watch out!" I screamed at people. I was the secretary to the Chief of ScienArm Crop. We were the party to be blamed for this apocalypse and downfall of the human race. We had to save, if not all, some of them today.

We had found portals and located them all over the world to transfer people. No one knew how bad it could be but the ScienArm Corp sure did. Hence we prepared all the necessary precautions. One thing that I liked about this organization was the humanitarian concepts they had. Sure give birth to creatures but save humans. The 'scientific plays' could be horrifying.

The portals lead to different worlds, no worlds, death, who knows. But one way or another we had to try. The different higher management staff were ordered to guard the portals, guide humans towards them when the time comes. My duty was at Northern Oceans. A mile from there through the ship there was another Portal. The people left the lands a month ago because the land creatures were massive and destructive. Now we were running everywhere because sea creatures had started taken over as well.

Aysha, I recognized, approached in a hurry. She was crying. She handed me a letter and said, 'They are near, they will kill us all. Destroy the portals or they can travel with us'. I didn't have the time to read the letter but she didn't have to repeat the latter. There wasn't enough time. I nodded and ushered her to the portal. The quick they move the fast it will be destroyed.

The beeping on my watch was pitching up. It meant they are near. I looked around for the last section and opened it. Further people came running towards the portal. I knew that we had just 10 mins. I started screaming and helping people jump into the portal. There was chaos, people were pushing and pulling, children were crying. And in that chaos something hit me. For a second there was a blackout. I shook my head fast. The portal needs to be destroyed. I moved to the imprint that held the locks to the portal. I attached a time bomb to it and set it to 9 minutes.
I was wet by now. Sweat and blood both running down my neck. My head hurts. "Run fast!".

8 minutes:
My steps were pounded. "Get you kid and leave!".

7 minutes:
I was losing my balance, couldn't see clearly. I fell again. This time in the middle of the crowd.

6 minutes:
People started stepping on me. My body was in pain. The creatures have arrived. Bricks were breaking above the secure chamber.

5 minutes:
My head was spinning. Thud! Thud! Thud! The banging overhead was loud. We don't have time. The gates won't hold them long.

4 minutes:
Duty comes first. Save them and I'll be saved. Help and you will be helped. The beeping was drumming in my ears.

3 minutes:
I was losing consciousness yet I screamed, "Leave! Save your families, save the generations. Run!". But deep inside, I was losing hope for myself.

2 minutes:
I pushed myself to the nearest walls and stood up. My uniform was drenched in blood. The chamber was getting flooded. They are here.

1 minute:
I helped the people left with me get in and then I just couldn't hold it anymore. I fell. Where? I did not know, because darkness took over me.

'Everything on earth has been destroyed, you are welcome to another world'.
