It was late in October, on a cool, crisp evening on the way end of town. The air shrieked as we drove out to the countryside, and with every passing second the sun dropped lower and lower into the abyss. The smell of the apple orchard as we passed was like smelling a bakery that had just peeled apples and put cinnamon on them for pies. As we drove further and further from our little town, and went farther and farther into the trees, they grew thicker along the old wooden fences on the roadside. In the old red mustang, he drove with the windows down. In one hand, the steering wheel, the other your hand. The radio was crackly since the town was getting so far away, all you could hear was the wind, and the hum of Old red's engine.

You could breathe better... you thought, as the air you breathed got colder. We passed many farm houses with children carving pumpkins on their front porches for the upcoming holiday. You could practically taste the pumpkin pie sitting on the window sill cooling as we drove past. The moon started to rise as the sun was now below the horizon, and started to darken the sky. The Drive went on for hours along this old road in the countryside. There wasn't any houses out this far now, just a few trees and fields as far as the eye could see, then the long winding road ahead of us. " The moon is beautiful tonight, my love," he said, breaking the silence in the 'oh so quiet' drivers seat. You shake your head to come back to reality, "Oh yes dear, it is quite beautiful. I assume we are almost there?" you say in a smooth and light voice. "Nearly love, nearly. What size tonight do you presume?" he questioned. "Probably 0.8 millimeters for this one love. It's a biggen tonight." you say gripping his hand in a sequence. "Oh my smart baby girl, you always know everything." he said teasingly. You smile and stare at the moon, it was very beautiful tonight, you thought while all the noises started to mush together in your head in a lulling sense.

You get to a break in the fence line which seemed to go on forever, you turn down the road and follow it all the way to the top of the hill. He parked the car and turned the key into the off position and opened his door, walked around the car and opened yours holding his hand out for you to grab. You beam at him and take his hand, stepping onto the freshly cut grass in your Fall boots. You walk to a clearing where the moon sits right in front of you while he gets the telescope and the lens case from the back seat. You run down to help him with the stuff, he hands you the case and takes your free hand. You arrive at the spot and start setting up the equipment. You start calibrating the telescope while he runs down to get the chairs. "All set dear!" You say grinning. "Good darling, I'll set up the chairs." He said gently as he walked to the little clearing. He set up the chairs and you watched as your strong man complained about setting them up. "I forgot how to open this one!" he growled in frustration. You giggled and pressed down a lever which popped open the chair. "Oh heh thank you darling." he said kissing your cheek. He then walked over to the telescope and looked into it, while you sat in your chair watching him.

You two talked and gazed until the moon was high in the sky covered in eerie clouds. You both then pack up and start the drive home, passing the farm houses you once saw. "It's late darling," he said pulling into the drive way. You yawn and reply sleepily, "Yes indeed mi amour, nearly one." He gets out of the car and opens your door. He then picks you up bridal style and carries you inside. You wrap your arms around him. The scent of his cologne made you smile. He plopped you on the bed and pulled out your favorite cozy pj's and his matching boxers. You slide out of your jeans and T-shirt and slip into the jammies. He does the same, then crawls under the covers next to you, holding you tight. "Good night my beautiful river lily," he whispered kissing your neck. "Good night my handsome king," you say yawning. Then with the sound of the night and his rhythmic breath and heartbeat, you were swept into slumber awaiting the sandman to bless you with a blissful dream.
