When she woke, it wasn't due to the sunlight coming through her eyelids. It was the pain that wracked her whole body. Groaning slightly, she glanced around her, staring at the ivy covered walls. Looking back down, she could see her clothes and ground covered in blood.
My blood. She thought.
Attempting to get into a seated position, she thought about how she got there. The only thing she could remember was her name. Panicking slightly, she pushed herself to her feet, only to fall again with a pained scream. She blacked out for a second as she landed, laying her head on the ground.
She didn't know how long she sat there before she heard footsteps coming near her. She could barely open her eyes to see shoes around the corner where she was at.
There was a gasp. "Holy..."
She tried moving again, only managing to twitch her fingers. The footsteps sounded again, stopping right next to her. The person slightly touched her face, making her eyes twitch open slightly. He had some sort of running vest on, his hair spiky. She groaned again, closing her eyes.
"Hey, hey. Stay with me. Holy Shuck, that's a lot of blood. Just hold on okay? I'm going to help you. Just hold on."
He picked her up gently, making her whimper. He whispered soothing words in her ear before taking off at a run down the corridor. After a while, she passed out from the pain racing through her body.
She woke up in a bed, a sheet lightly covering her body. To the side, she heard whispers. Unable to understand them, she slowly started to push herself up.
"Woah, woah woah!" A boy with dark skin came up to her, pushing her down gently. "You need to stay down okay? You've lost a lot of blood."
She looked up at him in confusion, then glanced at the other boys who were whispering. The spiky hair boy was next to them. She looked back to the dark skinned boy, who started to check her pulse.
"My name is Jeff. Do you remember yours?"
She nodded slightly and whispered, "Rose."
"Do you remember anything else? Anything at all?"
Rose thought for a second, glancing at the boys in the room. They were all staring at her. Biting her lip, she looked down and shook her head.
"All I remember was pain."
The boys in the room looked down, disappointed.
"I'm sorry I can't be of more help."
To her left, a boy snorted. He had dirty blonde hair that laid in his deep brown eyes. He had his arms crossed around his torso, lip caught between his fingers. When he realized she was looking at him, he smiled gently.
"No need to be sorry. It's not your fault you were thrown into the maze half dead."
"Newt! Don't scare the poor girl." The boy next to him smacked his head and turned back to Rose. "Names Nick. This shuckface here is Newt. And I believe you already met Minho."
Spiky hair grinned at Rose. "She did, but she also was bleeding into unconsciousness."
Rose smiled at all of them, and tried sitting up again with Jeff's help. "Where are we?"
"We call it the Glade. Don't know why we were put in here, and so far, we haven't found a way out." Nick sat down.
"A way out?" Rose looked down.
Minho stepped forward, "Out of the maze. Where I found you. Been looking since we first got here with no memories of our past."
Rose nodded and looked down again, processing everything. They all sat in silence for a couple minutes before Nick cleared his throat.
"Don't you have any more questions? Normally, Greenies have dozens."
Rose shrugged, biting her lip. "Even if I do, I have a feeling you wouldn't answer them anyway. Not right now at least."
Jeff let out a laugh. "She's a smart one there Nick. Now, I'm kicking you out, I need to check her bandages, and then Rose needs rest."
The boys nodded and filed out the door, smiling at her before they left. Once the door shut, Jeff lifted her shirt slightly to get to the bandage that covered Rose's entire stomach. He took it off, and she glanced down to see a gash stretching from the top of her right ribs, down to her left hip. Gulping slightly at the size of the wound, she leaned back so Jeff had easier access.
"You know, it's lucky Minho found you when he did. I think if you laid there any longer you would have died from blood loss."
"I think so too." she took a deep breath, "You are going to need to disinfect it aren't you?"
Jeff nodded, wincing. He brought the swab to her cut, and Rose gripped the side of the bed, squeezing her eyes shut. The moment the swab made contact with the sloppy stitches, Rose let out a quiet cry. It took two minutes for Jeff to clean the entire cut.
"I'm done. I'm sorry."
"It's okay." Rose sat up and grabbed the gauze to re-wrap the gash. As Jeff turned back to her to help, she had already finished, clipping the bandage in place.
"How'd you know to do that?"
She shrugged. "Kind of came naturally, I guess. I'm sorry I didn't let you do it."
"Oh no worries. You did that just fine all by yourself. Alright, I'm going to leave you to rest, and I'll bring you some food a little bit later okay?"
Rose nodded and laid back. A second later the door opened and closed, signaling that Jeff left the room. She looked out the window, only being able to see the tops of trees. She closed her eyes then, letting her exhaustion take over.
