This has got to be my worst mission so far... I never should've become a Demon Slayer. I never should've come here.
I keep denying it but it's true.
I'm cowardly, and I'm a terrible swordsman! I don't belong here... I'm not worth this...
If I can't protect anyone then why am I here?!
This is hopeless! The closer we get, the worse it'll become, the strings will just be re-attatched! It won't even matter if it's a corpse or a living being.
"Don't give up now, Y/N."
Don't give up... Don't give up?! How can you say that...?
My hand trembles, Tanjiro taking initiative, running around trees as the girl followed him.
He... He was tying her to the tree... So she wouldn't be forced to fight anymore!
"Hey, hey, hey! Why are you running around in circles like that? Quit fooling around!"
Inosuke called out.
Tanjiro turned back around and picker her up, tossing her high into the air and over a branch, and now her strings tangled on it.
"You're a genius, Tanjiro!"
He seemed just as proud, and Inosuke quickly got to doing the same thing, not leaving much for me to do.
When he tossed the first guy up he laughed loudly.
"Haha! See?! I can do anything you can do!"
I helped push away another slayer attacking Tanjiro.
"Sorry, Inosuke! We kinda missed it!"
"WHAAT?!"
"Ngh-! Can you blame us?!"
Eventually, we did get everyone up on branches, Inosuke taking it more like a contest than anything.
"See! I tied up more than both of you! Now I just have this guy! Make sure you both watch!"
Then, one by one, their heads spun backwards, breaking their necks and ending their lives...
I dropped my sword in shock, hands over my mouth.
"Th-They-"
"Damn it! They're all dead now!"
Tanjiro knelt down in front of one of the bodies, and I get myself together before I pick up my sword.
A gentle breeze slipped past, faint and yet cold. Dread. Utter dread. That's what this wind brought.
Tanjiro was quieter now.
"Let's go."
Inosuke and I both agreed, following behind him. We allowed Inosuke to guide us again, trusting his senses.
I can't take this anymore. Why did I ever come here...? Why didn't I stay behind with Zenitsu? Why did I have to run in first?
