what if

jisung was the one who shot hansol?

- - ┈┈∘┈˃̶༒˂̶┈∘┈┈ - -

the gun was gathering sweat from jisung's hand, his eyes narrowed at hansol who kept threatening the boundaries.

shoot him

shoot him

he had to, it'll solve all his problems. but once jisung shoots hansol, he'll no longer be jisung, the pure, untainted jisung. he'd be a murderer, a murderer of his girlfriends brother.

he hoped aeri would come, calm him down and say even if he did shoot hansol, that he'd be okay. that they'll run away together somewhere deserted, and somewhere no humans reside. just a place for them to smile, enjoying each other companies.

was it that hard?

"shoot" hansol's smirk grew, eyes twinkling with mystery.

aeri ran through his mind every second that ticked by, and every second that he was wasting to some stupid taunt in his head.

was she with chenle?

was she safe?

he clutched the gun even harder. his mind then continued to wander: what will he become. the smirk that lay so dauntingly on hansols lips pulled him in, wanting jisung to fall right into the grasps of satan

he had three choices, three cards to flip over

Life

Death

Sacrifice

none of which can get him out safely. but hansols mocking words seemed to keep ringing in his ear, luring him to shoot him. no, it wasn't luring, it was manipulating.

utter hypnotisation

"you love her dont you?" his voice was so eager, so eager for his death it was becoming terrifying

"shut up" jisung gritted his teeth, he was trying so hard to not give in

"i helped father capture her to the basement, i use to hurt her when she was younger, i-"

a thunder

a loud boom

the gun went off, and jisung's eyes squeezed shut. the ringing of the bullet was like a distorted radio signal in his ear.

it was over

he fell in his trap

he was a murderer, a criminal

one at a time, he opened his eyes, looking at the shower of blood that edged out from his body, his eyes rolled to the back of his head.

then it was the smirk, it was the smirk again

the gun clattered to the floor, eyes wide as he stumbled back. there was nothing on his hands, but he felt as though it was drowned with blood, and eyes were on him every where he looked. he felt her eyes, stuck on him and chanting

you're a monster

you're a monster

he wanted to vomit.

Life

Death

Sacrifice

perhaps he chose all three.

then there was footsteps, the footsteps he had dreaded. they were coming at him, and with one turn of a head, he saw those pair of eyes. he couldn't help himself, and stumbled back against the wall.

it was aeri, and chenle, their eyes looking at the chaos in front of them.

"jisung..." she began, only for little droplets of rain to slice into their skin. it showered on them, cutting his flesh.

"i don't know- i...i swear i just wasn't- what have i done" he stammered, forcing the demonic chants out of his ears. he was a kid who used to skip along the muddy roads, soccer under his arm and whistle a happy tune. but with one turn of events, he stood before a dead body, a dead body he had brutally slaughtered.

aeri glanced at hansol, but her face sat still, then flickering up to jisung's distorted state. she stepped over hansols body, reaching out to him, and pulled him into her embrace, arms around torso and face pressed against his chest.

"hush" she whispered "everyone has to make sacrifices in life"

he closed his eyes, breathing slowly and steadily as he too, wrapped his arms around her

"he's dead..." he croaked "he's really dead"

"i'll most probably be the leader of starship after father...since hansol's...dead" she breathed, unable to look at him "until then. we'll run, together. away from the chaos, away from all this stupid way of life and we'll find somewhere nice to live. we'll be okay, it'll all be okay"

they stood in the rain for a couple of seconds, mouths tied shut

"why did you shoot him?" she asked, almost tenderly, looking up at him

"i...don't know" he knew he shouldn't have. he knew it was all part of hansols game. if hansol doesn't get his award, neither should jisung.

she'll become leader of starship sooner or later, and then, even glancing at jisung would be a problem

a sacrifice for a sacrifice

that's how life is.

You're changing, you're changing, you're changing alright
I hope you're satisfied, but if you ain't don't blame me
You can blame my friends on the other side

You got what you wanted
What you want's what you get

Hush

well well well

so we have now officially finished and i can mark this as done

i'm considering making my book chapters longer to around 50 instead of 40 but this book is fairly short

an analysis will be posted on my Research Centre book about this alternate ending as well

check out my new book Midnight Stories which is also somewhat part of this alexithymia + dysthmia + deaths wish branch (mainly deaths wish)

and of course, again, check out my deaths wish chapter on my Research Centre book for an in-depth analysis!

but the real question is

which ending would you have preferred?
