Chapter 24

"Let's maybe not fight each other again, please?"

"Just shut up, arrowhead! Let me show you how it's done."
He slammed his foot into the ground, raising and dropping it to form a cleaner path before us, shattering the earth below.

"Hmph."
I start walking first, stopping just a few steps further.
"That... was pretty cool, though, Inosuke."

He seemed taken aback, staring at me for a moment.

"D-Don't let it go to your head! And stop staring, idiot! We have a mission to complete!"

Tanjiro smiles and walks up beside me, Inosuke following along.
I spot someone walking nearby, the uniform obviously one of ours.

We walk up to him, Tanjiro startling the poor guy by accident as he turns around.

"We've come to help out. I'm Tanjiro Kamado, rank Mizunoto."

"A mizunoto? Are you serious?! They should've sent us a hashira! No matter how many Mizunoto they send in, it won't be enough!"

Hashira? If they need a hashira for this, what kind of demon are we talking about here?!

I'm startled when Inosuke ran up and punched him, busting his nose.
"Inosuke! Stop trying to fight everything you see!"

"Ah, shut up! The only thing I see that's not enough is this sputtering pool of sweat in front of me!"

Tanjiro and I hold him off best we can.
"Now how about you tell us just what's going on here, you spineless fool!"
He grabbed the poor boy by his hair.

"Who do you think you're talking to?! Don't you know I have senority?! That crow gave us orders to come to this place, and ten of us Corp members gathered here."

Inosuke let go, and we listen carefully.
"That's when it started. The slayers began killing each other. I... I was so-!"

Sensing his fear, I reach over to put my hand on his shoulder, it wasn't much for reassurance but better than nothing.

"What sort of demon are we talking about?"
I ask him, startled when he yelled.

"I don't know! I don't think any of us know and are still alive! Who knows how many Mizunoto they sent in!"

I look at Tanjiro with worry, and we both share the same feeling of discomfort.
I feel something missing and look around.

"Wait, where's Zenitsu?"

"The weird crybaby one? Didn't we leave him behind?"
Inosuke carelessly mumbled.

"We left Zenitsu behind?! Why didn't any of you speak up earlier?! We could've went back and gotten him!"

"I'm sure Zenitsu's fine, Y/N. Don't worry."

"But- We shouldn't have left him in the first place..."

"Stop caring about him so much, geez!"

We all get put back on high alert once a loud rattling noise started, and I couldn't see the source, only making it more confusing for me.
