1 Year Later
I ran through the yard of my parent’s home, Salem chasing beind me and my locket with the group picture from 1 year ago bouncing against my skin. Haylee ran in front of me, her matching locket swinging back and forth as she ran. “I’m gonna catch you!” I yelled laughing.
My mom opened the door to the house and called out, “Kids, lunch is ready!”
“Coming mom!” I shouted, running towards the open door with Hayley.
“Is McKenna coming over for dinner?” My mom asked me smiling, I ran a hand through my hair and blushed, “Yeah, I think so.”
Haylee sat beside me at the table and put her tiny hands together, “Mama!” She said, which actually meant "pray" but as "mama" was her first word it had become her answer for everything.
My mom bowed her head and began talking, “Thank you god for giving us back our beautiful daughter, and gifting us with another. Thank you for Richard and Hillary’s existence, and for the many sisters and brothers you were able to give our darling Lucy. But most importantly, thank you for Elizabeth. I hope she is doing well up there with you, I hope you gave her the castle that she deserves. Amen.”
I looked around the table, at my mom, dad, and Haylee and gripped my locket tightly in my hands. There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t miss them, all of them. Or a day that I don’t beg God to give me the forever that Elizabeth had promised, but if this was the future that I was to be given, I was going to keep my promise, and find my serenity.
