"Thank you." She beamed. "And you should introduce your girlfriend to us next time."
He nodded.
She embraced him and she whispered. "Thank you." She kissed him on the cheeks. "I'll be expecting it. Take care. Bye."
"Bye." And she left.
After some little discussion with the orphanage proprietress, they left. It was already dark when they left the orphanage and there was traffic on the way.
"It's such a wonderful thing to do," Lola said. He looked at her. "The orphanage. What made you do it?"
"It's personal." He answered.
She nodded in understanding. She understands that they are things he wasn't open to discussing with her. But she didn't feel any remorse about it. He had been kind enough to take her out and say a few things about himself and some nice, wonderful speech. She got to know another part of him. Another man inside that workaholic rude man.
"I'm sorry for saying that you spend your money lavishly." She apologized quietly. She remembered insulting him that he doesn't know how to spend money. That he spends it on unnecessary things.
"I do waste my money on some unnecessary stuff." He admitted.
"But it's..."
He cut her short, saying firmly. "It's okay. That is gone."
The traffic was quite hectic. Lola dozes off to sleep on the way. Demilade turned to look at her as she sleep peacefully with her head on the headrest. He pulled the chair down a little so she could be comfortable.
It was fun going out with her. He had not expected to have such a good time with her. Things seem to be easy around her. And she was satisfied with anything she own and that is given to her. Everyone also seems pleased with her and they like her without even knowing who she is.
Just like the kids.
Thinking about the kids. He remembered seeing her with those little kids when he left Big mom office. She carried one on her thigh and the others she was telling them how to arrange some toys. They seem happy to have a new face among them.
Sylvia also liked her.
He smiled at the thought. It was funny how those kids grow in a short while. Just six years ago that they were bought to the orphanage looking thin from malnutrition and suffering. They looked like some lost puppy.
She had been the one who caught his attention the most among all the children. She would fold herself in a corner, alone and she would just stare at other children. The teachers say she wouldn't talk and she hardly eats. She made him visit the orphanage frequently at some point and little by little, she begin to come out of her shell.
Now she is wiser than her age and very outspoken.
He was glad she was now growing up into a beautiful lady. In a few years, she and her friends would no longer be kids. And he hoped he could watch them grow and achieve their dreams in life.
It would be his greatest achievement on earth.

When he got home, he woke Lola up. She yawned and she woke up scratching her eyes. She blocked her eyes from the bright light in the garage.
She sat up and looked at her surroundings. It takes a little while for her to know she was back in Demilade mansion and she is sitting in one of his cars in the garage. Light shone on the different cars parked in the garage.
"Are you fully awake? We are home." Demilade said and he came down from the car.
Lola nodded and she picked up her purse and phone. She felt sore on her feet, so she bends down and take off her sneaker. Her toes felt free.
"What are you doing?" Demilade asked, annoyed. He watched as she wriggled her toes when she climbed down from the car.
"As you can see, I just take off my shoes. My toes hurt."
"You have just a few minutes to get to your room then you can take it off."
"Stop being dramatic Demmy. You are acting too seriously like a nagging mom. Moreover, it's my feet." She answered also annoyed at his constant frustration with little things.
He just shake his head and walked away. Lola takes her shoe in her hands and followed after him.
The house was quiet as usual and she climbed up the stairs while Demilade followed behind as he check something on his phone.
Her feet slipped off the stairs and Demilade quickly held her from falling. She heaved a sigh of relief, with her hands on her chest where her heart was beating frantically with fear of falling.
"Second time today." He said, calmly. "You should be careful." His hand was still on her waist.
Her head becomes blank and butterflies were churning inside her. There was a feeling of an electric spark where he was holding her. And she wondered why her heart was beating so fast. She was afraid he was going to hear the beating of her heart in the quiet house. So she involuntarily jerked away.
"Thank you." She muttered avoiding his eyes. He said nothing and he walked past her when he realized she was not moving.
From the middle of the stairs, she called his name. And he turned around without saying anything.
"Thanks for today." She appreciated. "I had fun."
"Me too." He admitted. "And you look great today."
There stood staring at each other for a while. There was a feeling between them that they don't seem to understand what it was and would not want to admit whatever it was.
Lola gave a shy, small smile breaking the eye contact and she turned away.
"We are attending a party tomorrow. Just want you to know, so you can prepare. We will leave late in the morning." He told her. She nodded with one of her hands in her pocket and the other holding her shoes. "You need to look your best."
"I will."
"Alright. Goodnight."
"Goodnight." She said and she watched him retreat to the direction of his room.
