But he admired her. She has a dream. He now understands why she had agreed to the deal.
"Now you," Lola said waking him from his thoughts. She was smiling at him but her eyes were pleading and hoping.
He dropped his cutlery since he had finished eating. He leaned back and folded his arms on his chest. Then he asked. "What do you want to know?"
"Do you inherited your company?" She asked. She knows he didn't but she wants to know if he would tell how he grow to be so successful when he had grown up in a poor home.
Although she has other more personal questions running through her mind to ask him she doesn't want to ask a question that will get him angry. So that was why she was starting with something she knows he likes very much - His business.
"No, I didn't." He answered. She nodded and she wished he would say more.
He noticed she was listening so he decided to say more.
"I bought it."
"You bought it?"
"Yes. I bought it six years ago. I once worked as an intern at the company. Then I was at the university. I began working there after I graduate high school. I become a part-time worker as time went on. I got to meet the owner of the company. They were nice people so they gave me extra pay. I work there and at the same go to school and night, I work in the bar that Bayo's elder brother owns." he said calmly.
Lola listened with keen interest. He also has his own story to tell. He didn't grow rich in one day.
"Nine years ago, the company went bankrupt after the death of the owner and the bank took it. Then I got a nice position in a competing construction firm. I bought it years after that and built it to what is it now. I always like working in the company. It was a familiar place. It just lacks a good leader. So I built my own dream from it. I always wanted to own my own company. And so I expand it. I don't only deal with construction. I deal in hotels, spas and club business. With my life savings and the help of my friends, I got to start my own business." He explained.
He felt relieved and glad to tell her about it. No one had ever asked him about it except the damn reporters. It felt good, to be honest, and to have someone listen to you. Many ladies prefer to spend his money and they don't bother themselves with how he makes the money.
"You work hard for it. I'm happy for you. You made your dreams." She said sincerely. It was nice listening to him. It was the first time he will be talking for so long with her.
"Thanks." He appreciated. Because he knows she was sincere.
His phone buzzed and he picked it up to see the message that came in. Lola brought out her phone and begin to take selfies. She wanted to show her siblings when she got home. She will post them on her Instagram page and also send them to her brother.
She smiled looking at the pictures. She looked up from the phone and she found Demilade staring at her. She felt a little embarrassed.
She noticed some eyes were on them. She stood up and took the seat beside him and Demilade gave her a stare like she is crazy.
"Can I?"
"Do what?" He asked.
"Take a selfie."
"I don't take pictures." He said plainly.
"Please." She begged.
He shakes his head disagreeing. She shake his arm slightly and pouted making puppy eyes. He couldn't help but smile.
Who can dare refuse a cute face like hers?
"Fine. But you should not post them. I don't want to be a topic for bloggers." He said.
"Okay. I won't." She promises. "Can I use your phone?" He nodded and hand it to her. "Thanks." She muttered.
She took some pictures but it wasn't good. He won't smile. His face was expressionless.
"They are not good," Lola complained as she looked at them. "Try to smile please." He nodded and she tried taking another but he didn't smile. She pouted.
She decided to tickle him as she does for her brother and David, her friend.
She tickled him. He looked shocked but that didn't make him smile.
This guy is a stone. Lola thought.
When she was about to give up, she decided to try his ear. Everyone has a tickling spot. Then she tickles his ear and it works. He tried to remove her hand but she continued and he finally smiled.
"Now you are smiling." She said. "It's not so hard. So will you smile or I do it again."
"We are in public Lola." He said looking around. He was aware of the eyes on them.
"It doesn't matter. Let them look. It's their eyes." She said nonchalantly. And she grinned. He couldn't help but smile back. The lady has a way of making things seem so simple.
And she took a few pictures with his phone.
She went back to her seat and send the pictures to her phone. She was going to send them to Ibukun and Ada who are so curious to know who the Mr Billionaire who made a deal with their friend making her 30 days Cinderella.
She smiled at the pictures. There looked great. Demilade looked so cute and handsome in them.
Demilade just sat staring at Lola. She was a piece of work. He felt this peace and calmness whenever he stares at her.
He looked at his wrist watch and then he said. "Let's go." He said.
"Oh okay." She said. She felt a little sad that their day was about to end. She enjoys the time she is spending with him.
He called a waiter and paid for the meal. And they stand up to leave but someone called Demilade name stopping them in their track.
