The Georges

Chapter 1

The George's family have always been a controversial topic on people's lips. Coming from the lowest caste to be an estates owner who owns several hectares of land.

George Rachael confidently step out of the court room with her Step mother, George Stephanie beside her,reporters came from different broadcasting stations to get words from them.

No one look interested in the court verdict concerning Stephanie's case,they all knew the verdict will always be in the Georges favour but still which broadcasting station won't want to write a story about the Georges. Six hefty security men paved ways for them and protecting them from the reporters,Rachael suddenly stopped to speak with the press. She yanked off her dark glasses from her face angrily and rolled her eyeballs. "They won't stop disturbing. Pests." She mumbled to herself.

"My name is Rachael. George Rachel. I have been repeating this over and over that my Mother is innocent of all charges pressed against her and today,the court has proved her to be innocent of all charges" she said with a fake smile on her face.

"And all this wouldn't have happened if you all try to look more into stories before publishing it for the public,well, my family will always be innocent of all negative charges because we have a reputation to maintain in this country." she added and quickly walked to the court packing space,as the reporters rushed along.

Different questions keep coming from the reporters even when they are sure Rachael said all she has to say and Stephanie,her step Mother wasn't ready to say a word.

One of the security men who were paving the way among the reporters rushed forward to one of the luxuries car in the packing lots. He opened the car door and Stephanie and her step daughter hopped in quietly while the security men moved to the other cars.

Silent hung in the car as the mother and step daughter didn't talk, even thou they both feel like cursing the reporters who nearly suffocated then few minutes ago. Rachael decided to break the silence as she hummed "everything i wanted by Billie Eilish."

"Mom,do you want to go to the restaurant for lunch." Rachael asked.

"Lunch, you say?" Stephanie asked with worries written all over her face.

"you need to eat now. Everything is over."

"why should I eat when I have a job to finish? i need to put Peter in his place,he needs to know no one dares to betray me,i fed that loose mouth for 8years and all he could do to repay me was to open his mouth to that rude state security officer." Stephanie scratched her palm with her fingers.

"Mom,you need to stay low now, not you alone,we the Georges need to stay away from all this,i will make arrangements for you to meet Peter at the right moment,i don't want you in any of this right now. You need to take a nap" Rachael picked her step mom's hand gently and squeeze it gently. "Mom, you don't need to worry about anything." She assured.

"Oh Rachael,what would I have done without you. I would have been a convict if you weren't here for me. Thanks so much, my baby." Stephanie said holding her step daughter's hand.

"Did you just say a convict! i paid the lawyer an amount he couldn't refused,even the judge knew he could not afford to let you get in jail,i reminded him about the little business he once had with us." Rachael grinned.

"You are such a baby girl."

"let go to the restaurant for lunch now, put on your best smile,the Stephanie smile not the Mrs George smile,our workers need to know we are strong."

Rachael had travelled out of the country for a business meeting so she wasn't aware of the truth behind the charges pressed on her mother.

She got back to find out that mom was arrested and detained by the state security officers the same week she left. and to make matter worst, no one called her to notify her of her mother's arrest. Rachael was baffled when she heard it was her step mother PA, that reported her to the state security office.

The thought of the pain she might have been through made her cry. The betrayal. Peter had been with then fur right years, what could have made him forget the good times they spent so soon.

At first,Rachael wasn't allowed to visit her mom at the state security office and she wasn't surprised by the way the officers treated her while trying to have a conversation with them so she could see her, knowing fully well that the SSO has been wanting and praying to get her step mom behind bars for years.

At the end of the fourth week,Stephanie lawyer made effort so Rachael would meet her mother, by the time she met her,she could sense fear all over her face as she holds her hand to comfort her.

How could this happen to her mom? How could she commit such a heinous crime in her house.

Rachael asked the maids about the truth of the case but no one was willing to answer. If there's is anything Rachael is sure of, it's that someone was also at the scene with Peter and her step mother at the scene but who was it?

"Stephanie George, the prime suspect in the death of  Jonathan" Rachael was not surprised at the news but how could words get out. Why would her step mom murdered a man in the living room?  Her step mom would never commit a crime within the house, it's always in the warehouse.

Rachael went straight to the detention to questioned her mom but she met her crying so she couldn't say a word. She knew her mom would never cry for being arrested but she couldn't figure out what really got her into the situation.

Seeing the woman who had raised her like her own daughter in such a pathetic situation drained her energy so she made up her mind that she would do everything to get her out of the grip of the officers and yeah she did it.

This is my first story so I am still on the road and hoping to learn so feel free to correct my mistakes .Your vote and feedback means a lot to me
