A children's teacher sounded the most appealing to Ostara. She loved children. That and she desperately missed her siblings. Both when they were young and innocent and now as creatures of the night. When Ostara was around and teaching children it gave her a purpose. She had been alive so long she might as well put her knowledge to use. Children were new and pure and so fascinated by everything. Ostara would never get tired of being around them. They didn't have worries, they were unfiltered, and their personalities were still developing.

Ostara did not plan to date someone. She's never dated anyone, in fact. She's had few one night stands over the years of her existence. Only once with a man which she despised, the rest were with women. Ostara never felt the need to date anyone. Especially if they were mortal. There were a few times where Ostara may have been romantically interested in someone, but she never stayed in one place long enough to get attached. Ostara had seen Melissa McCall a few times when she would go into the hospital to collect blood bags. That was just in passing, but Melissa could recognize a pretty girl.

Melissa started showing up more when she began to pick up her son from school. Before that, it had always been young Scott's dad. Melissa had much stricter work hours as a nurse. Ostara didn't mind seeing Melissa, she was a sweetheart and Scott was too. After a few weeks Ostara brought it up as she had to fill out the people allowed to pick up the five-year-old.

"Is officer Raphael going to be picking Scott up anymore?" Ostara questioned Melissa. There was no one else in the classroom but the three of them. It was about half an hour after school had ended. Ostara didn't mind too much, Melissa could have easily had an emergency she couldn't leave the minute the bell rang. Scott had played outside with his best friend, Stiles for five minutes before his mom came to pick him up. Since then, he went back inside and sat at his desk calmly colouring a cartoon animal print-out.

"No, no. Just me from now on," Melissa answered assertively. After the incident a few months ago she didn't want Raphael any where near her little boy. Not that he wasn't told to stay away, but Melissa wasn't sure if he would give up and leave or not.

"Of course, Mrs. McCall," Ostara said. She quickly wrote that down on her sheet filled with the names of her students, who was allowed to pick them up, along with their contact information. Melissa coughed awkwardly at being addressed like that.

"Oh, Ms. Delgado please. Well, I'm keeping McCall for right now. The divorce papers have to go through. And because I'm the sole guardian of Scott it'll be easier if we have the same last name. But, you can call me by Delgado, please," Melissa said. She said this all very rushed. Ostara had a hard time not laughing fondly at her. Melissa seemed awfully flustered and Ostara wasn't totally sure why. Perhaps it was to do with the relationship issues.

"I understand. I do something similar, though under different circumstances. My last name from birth is Mikaelson, but that can be a confusing one especially with young children. So I use Kelson, it's much simpler," Ostara said. She was trying to make her feel better. Ostara could tell Melissa wasn't supernatural, and she didn't seem to be around any of them either. So, Ostara didn't mind dropping her real last name momentarily. Of course, she didn't go by Kelson because it was more convenient, she went by it because she consistently had to change her name. Not so much anymore with her parents gone, but it was still best to avoid dealing with all the enemies her siblings created just because she bore the same last name.

Melissa laughed slightly nervous and nodded her head. She looked over to Scott, he just seemed to be finishing up the colouring. He stood up excitedly from his chair and almost knocked it over in the process. He tossed the few rogue crayons into his pencil box and rushed over to his mom and teacher. Scott held up his colouring proudly when he reached them. Making sure to show the both of them his accomplishment. The drawing he coloured was a simple cartoon unicorn. Scott filled it in with varying colours of pink and yellow. Ostara knew from the few months she's taught Scott that he wasn't too interested in learning the curriculum and wasn't too fond of most physical activity unless it was a game. But, he did quite well in art for his age.

"That's wonderful, Scott! You keep getting better so fast soon you'll be better than me," Ostara said happily. There were a few places that he went out of the lines. More of the mistakes were where he had pushed the crayon down far too hard. But it was still a cute, well-done drawing. Ostara loved to see all the things her students would create.

"I made it for you, mommy! The unicorn will protect us now that dad is gone," Scott said happily. He didn't recognize the heaviness behind his words. To him, he was gifting his mother his art. And that was it. Melissa took it was a small smile and a muttered 'thank you'. She held in the tears that threatened to come out. Scott talking about his father leaving or behaving oddly before he left always got to Melissa. Scott seemed to have repressed the incident of Raphael knocking him down the stairs completely, but he remembered everything else. And that was far too much to remember. Melissa tried to think of something quickly to take her kind off the subject but she couldn't find anything. Ostara must have noticed her inner turmoil because she stood up from her chair and moved to stand in front of Melissa. Scott went over to the cubby's to retrieve his jacket and school bag.

"How about to avoid any of the last name confusion you just call me Ostara," she said. She smiled brightly hoping to cheer the woman up, it seemed to work. Ostara didn't even go by her birth name either, it was too rare nowadays. But something about Melissa made her not mind.

"I'm Melissa then," she insisted. Ostara already knew this, of course. But she wanted to hear her properly introduce herself. Melissa smiled back at her. The brightest one she had given so far.

...

"Your teacher is very nice," Melissa brought up. Scott and herself were in her car. It was a small, slightly run down thing but it still functioned. Scott was in the back in a car seat. A kids radio station played softly in the background. At the mention of his teacher Scott immediately perked up and looked over from the window to his mother.

"Miss. Ke'son is the nicest! She gives us treats and everything," Scott said happily. Ostara did much more for their class. Scott knew this. But her kindness and her treats were the best, in his opinion.

"I'm happy that you got such a good teacher," Melissa said. Her eyes never left the road but she could imagine Scott's expression just by his reactions. Scott could be a little dramatic sometimes, but Melissa assumed most of it was from spending so much time with his best friend Stiles.

"You really like 'er too. I can tell," Scott told her triumphantly. His mother didn't comment on that. But she did start tapping her fingers against the wheel nervously. Was it so obvious that her five-year-old son could tell? She hoped that it wouldn't make Ostara feel awkward. The newly divorced mother of one of her students being attracted to her. Who was she kidding, Ostara would totally feel awkward. Melissa really hoped Scott was just overly observant or exaggerating.
