Virgil, like usual, appeared in his room. It was dark and mysterious, just the way he liked it.
Taking off his jumper and replacing it with his 'hunting' jacket, he took a seat on his black bedsheet. Today had been rough, and he was in need to relieve some kept up anger.
Mentally preparing, he closed his eyes and thought about what he referred to as 'Home'.
Suddenly, he opened his eyes to see it. A different universe, the night sky which never changed, the endless forest. His small treehouse, his Home he always retreated to at the end of the day. The only place he felt safe.
Virgil had this power in which he could hop universes, all he had to do was think about it while clenching his eyes shut. As far as he was aware, he was the only side capable of this. He couldn't spend too much time in a different universe or Thomas would lose him as a side completely. It already happened once, look how that ended up.
He took great care climbing up the flimsy ladder, taking each step with caution. Opening the small trapdoor, he crawled through to reveal his cosy home.
He had a black blanket covering a window, a pair of black, red and blue beanbags in one corner, a desk and chair against another wall, and the floor which had multiple word carvings into it. The floor was almost full of words, so the carvings started to trail up the wall. Each word meant something to him; such as 'TERRIFIED' or 'PARANOID'. He hated them, each and every one of them, but he liked the torture.
Something else that covered the top corners and walls were spider webs. One of his pet spiders got out once while Virgil wasn't home and made a mess, he was too lazy to clean it up. But he liked the aesthetically pleasing vibe it gave off.
He took his shoes off, not forgetting his purpose for coming here. He checked to make sure he had his pocketknife but was surprised to find a lighter instead. He forgot, how could he have forgotten. He broke his pocketknife and put a lighter there as a reminder. 'How stupid' he thought, annoyed. 'But it'll do'.
Cracking his knuckles against his puffy cheeks, he stretched out his back, letting his hidden counterpart grow again. The old spiderwebs remaining screeched against his skin, his blood oozing. He couldn't feel the pain, not anymore. He'd grown accustomed to it, having done it so many times.
His hunting jacket had special holes cut out for them to grow, having learnt the mistake of letting them stretch without holes.
He felt his eyes go white, signalling his transformation complete. He felt the black ink ooze down his cheeks from his hairline, and his fangs grow in his mouth. 'Finally, I'm complete'.
Pulling the blanket aside, he felt the cold breeze smash against his skin. He felt the rage begin again.
Clenching his fists, he launched through the window, feathers against the roaring wind. Aiming upwards, he roared towards the sky like a ravaging bird. A phantom.
He flew over the tree's, invisible in the night sky, until he spotted his prey.
'A deer, in the headlights.' Virgil smirked, lowering down a little behind to sneak up better.
As his bare feet touched the ground, he felt the dirt beneath him tickle his feet. He picked up a previously fallen branch, large and sharp, 'perfect'.
Crouching slightly, he slowly made his way towards his prey, careful not to make his presence known. He snuck up from behind and waited for the perfect moment.
He started a count off in his head. '3...'
He adjusted his grip on the branch, slowly raising it higher. '2...'
And finally, he smiled, letting his fangs go. His teeth shone; eyes glowing in the dark. '1!'
As the deer turned around, Virgil swung the branch down, impaling the deer. The deer collapsed, kicking wildly. Virgil took this as an opportunity to pounce, strong hands gripping at the deer's skin and guts, grabbing at whatever he could and pulling it apart. Blood splattered everywhere, and he felt it on his face and in his mouth. The metallic taste brought a chilling sensation over him, no longer capable of anything other than a psychotic rage.
He laughed a cute giggle, which slowly grew into cackling as the deer's body laid lifeless.
Pulling the branch out, he stuck it into the blood covered ground, right next to the gruesome sight.
Satisfied, he stood, stretched and launched into the sky once again, easily flying away.
He didn't know where he was going, but he had a song in his head. It played on repeat as the wind blew on his cold face, shivers sent through his spine.
The song encouraged him on, almost leading him somewhere.
'We'll carry on!'
'We'll carry on!'
He jumped as high as he could, falling back down and gracefully catching himself.
He went up and down, eyes closed as he just enjoyed the cool air.
He payed no attention to where he was, just allowing his mind to take him anywhere. It was a nice escape from reality.
Suddenly, he felt a sharp pain in his rib. 'A mood killer', he retreated, taking refuge in the dark, unknowing forest.
Resting on a rock, he pulled up his shirt to reveal a tear, bleeding immensely.
"Shit" he exclaimed, kicking the dirt up.
He decided to go back, he'd need help to patch this up. Closing his eyes, he thought about his 'room'; just a backup.
