"There's something wrong with that Luke Hemmings, I swear to god. I don't know what it is yet, but there's something wrong with him."

I laughed quietly. "Is it that nothing's wrong with him? I swear, no human can be that perfect. Maybe he's an angel," I teased, and my best friend rolled her eyes.

"But you know it's true. He's a god. He's a Greek god walking on earth in our shitty school halls. He's my life savior."

"Jenna, you're Catholic."

"I don't care. Luke Hemmings saved my life with his damn jawline," she insisted.

"Say it louder, I don't think he heard you," I muttered, rolling my eyes.

Jenna grinned. "If I could get on the loudspeaker and not defend it, I'd scream it. That boy's face is a goddamn miracle."

"Aren't Catholics supposed to not swear or something?" I asked, amused.

She shot me the bird. "Just because I'm Catholic doesn't mean I can't be hardcore, bitch."

I laughed but didn't argue. Arguing with Jenna was like trying to explain astrophysics to a three-year old: futile. "So, Jenna, what're you going to do since you're so in love with Luke Hemmings?" I asked.

She sighed, kicking a book someone had left lying on the side of the hallway. "Nothing," she said. "Nothing I can do. I heard he has eyes for someone else."

"Oh? Who'd you hear that from?" I asked.

Jenna sighed again. "His best friend, Calum. He might be a fuckboy, but he does have the inside scoop on Luke."

"True enough," I nodded. The bell rang, signaling the end of break, and we both groaned.

"Chemistry is going to be the reason I finally snap and commit homocide on the idiots at this school and get sent to hell for it," Jenna muttered under her breath, trudging towards the lab.

I couldn't help but nod in agreement. "It's a pain."

"It's more than a pain, Margaux. It's the bane of my existence. It's ruining my life. Who gives a flying fuck how many atoms are in a given molecule? Who gives a shit about the number of valence electrons oxygen has? Who-"

"You swear an awful lot."

Jenn froze. "Tell me it's not-"

"It is," I confirmed, looking over her shoulder.

"Shit."

"I thought you were Catholic," Luke said, grinning as he took his seat at the lab bench in front of us.

"Why does everyone think that being Catholic means being an angel?" Jenna burst, shaking her head.

I laughed. "Aren't you supposed to be?"

"I don't even know," Jenna sighed.

Luke grinned. "How're you today, Margaux?"

That's it. That was it about Luke. Jenna liked him for his face, his height, his body, his eyes. She liked him for what he looked like.

I liked Luke because he was nice. He was flawlessly polite. He always said hi and always asked how my day was, like he genuinely cared. He never ignored me when I asked him something. He wasn't like all of the other stuck up immature animals in our grade.

Although, admittedly, he was beautiful. Jenna wasn't wrong.

But the more I talked to Luke, the more he made me wonder.

There's no way a boy as perfect as he seemed could be without a secret.
