Chapter 9

"The lights are on, so someone's probably inside."

"Wanna check it out?"
My body suddenly tensed when I see that his face scrunched up in panic.

"Is something wrong?"
I ask as I go closer to him.

"It smells like blood... Somebody must be hurt!"

My eyes widen as I stare back up to the temple. I tightly grip my staff and follow Tanjiro and Nezuko up the stairs to the building.

He runs up and slams the doors open, and both our eyes go wide at what we see.
The corpses of two people lay bloodied on the ground, and the horrid sounds of mushy chewing is present as an abnormal looking person seems to be the source, hovering over yet another dead body.

I hold my ground, trying to prepare for anything that might happen, the voice catching me off-guard.

"The hell are you doing here? This is my turf."
He slowly turns his head toward us, and I'm met with the familiar sharp teeth and tiny irises, bulging veins visible under the deathly pale and grayed out skin.

A demon...!

"Hang on... Something's off about the three of you."
He licks the blood of his hands as he speaks. And I try my hardest not to feel sick at the horrid smell of rotting flesh and blood.
"Are you three human?"

How the hell isn't Tanjiro puking right now?!

The candle that barely lit the room goes out, and before I can understand what's happening, the demon lunges at Tanjiro, sending him flying through the doorway and outside.

"Tanjiro!"

Quickly, I make my way to him, and he thankfully got the demon away from him, blood pouring from its neck.

Readying my staff, I prepare to blast this monster miles away from us, but he only chuckles darkly.
His raspy voice makes it even worse...

"Hah? A hatchet? Not bad. But this is just a scratch. It'll heal in no time~"
He tilts his head up, and the wound heals almost immediately, shocking the both of us.
"See~? The bleeding stopped already!"

He's gone before my eyes can even register his movements, but I'm suddenly thrown against a tree, pain flowing through me as I collapse on my knees, staff now out of reach.

Crap! He's gonna kill Tanjiro!

"You got lucky before, but now, I'M GONNA SNAP YOUR NECK!"

I take a deep breath but yet again, I'm quickly stopped as something flies my way, and I look to see Nezuko, and now the head of the demon right by my side.

"Did... Did she just kick his head off?!"
I yell, thankfully seeing Tanjiro alive as he moves up again.

Before the demon's now headless body can grab him again, Nezuko kicks it as far as she can, and it soon hits a tree.
I rush to them and grab my staff, ready to hopefully strike.

A shrill scream catches our attention.
I squeak in fear, seeing the head TALK to us.

"You bastards! So she's a demon after all?! I couldn't tell with that weird fucking vibe you all gave off! The hell are you doing with humans?!"
