Chapter 7

Miss Kamado smiled softly, letting out a small chuckle.
"How thoughtful of you."

From around the corner, Shigeru and Hanako ran up to us.

"Onii-chan, onee-san, are you two going into town again today?"
Shigeru asked, Hanako soon following.

"I'm coming with you!"
She huffed, and I couldn't help but let out a small chuckle at her adorable little pout.

"No, you're not. Both of you know you can't walk as fast as Y/N and Tanjiro can, sweetie."

"Awh! Come on, Mom!"
Shigeru whined, pouting.

"No way. They're not using the cart today, so neither of them can carry you if you get tired."

He huffed before hugging his brother, Hanako coming up to me again.
"I wanna come with you! I promise I'll help you guys out!"

"How generous of you, Hanako!"
I giggle and pat her head, her eyes lighting up.
"But no."

"You're staying home today."
Tanjiro added, making her whimper.
"So are you, Shigeru. Sorry, I promise I'll bring you back goodies, though, ok?"

"Promise?!"

Tanjiro nodded, and we both shared a look saying we were ready to leave.
"I'll even read to you when I get back, Hanako!"

"Thank you for this, you two."
Miss Kamado smiled sweetly, a thankful twinkle in her eyes.

"No problem!"
We both say at once, chuckling.

"It's time for us to head out, don't you think, Y/N?"

I nod, and right before we leave, I spot Takeo, carrying a sheathed hatchet on his shoulder.

"Do me a favor and chop as much firewood as possible, alright?"
Tanjiro smiled, and I made sure our baskets weren't gonna slip off.

He rolled his eyes slightly, a small look of disappointment on his face.
"I was already planning on doing that... I just hoped we could do it together..."

Tanjiro smiled and pet his hair.
"There, there."

"Kn-Knock it off!"
Takeo exclaimed, flustered as Tanjiro pet him again.

"There, there now~"

"Ngh! Cut it out!!"

All of us burst into laughter before me and Tanjiro get going, waving goodbye to everybody.

We walk for a bit and end up running into Nezuko, she greets us both warmly, but silently as Rokuta slept peacefully on her back.

They told me that they struggled after their father had passed away, but they did their best to manage on their own.
After I came along, I did my best to help them earn more money, because, in the end, I was another mouth to feed, and it only felt right to give back after all the kindness I've been treated with.

"See you guys when you're back!"
She calmly said, and we both waved her goodbye before making our way down the mountain.
