COLE.
Shit. Shit. Shit. Fuck. My parents are going to kill me once they realize where I am. Fuck!
"Hello, neighbor boy. Whatcha doin' in there?" Emery asks, tapping her nails on the hood of the car. I look up at her, and I can tell I look like a deer in headlights.
"What?"
"We're here, buddy!" I roll my eyes as I get out of the car. "What's up with you?"
I rub my sweaty palms on my jeans again, shaking my head. "Just really excited." I cringe as my voice cracks at excited.
I have never been to a party before. I don't want her to know that though. She'll think I'm crazy or something. She grabs my sleeve and tugs me towards the door, and I force myself to follow her.
It'll be okay. I won't drink, I'll just sit beside her— wait, no that would be so fucking weird. She doesn't want me sitting beside her and following her like a sad puppy. Why the hell did I agree to this?!
She pushes through a bunch of already drunk high school kids, and what looks like a few college kids and pushes open the kitchen doors, swinging her arms up and twisting around. "Welcome to heaven, neighbor boy!" She exclaims, and I smile softly at her to hide the terrible discomfort in my gut.
I don't know why she calls me neighbor boy, probably because she's my neighbor... duh. But it's gotten to the point that I think she forgot my name...
"What's your drink?" She asks, shifting on her hips as she pours something into a red cup.
"I don't- I don't have a preference." I mutter, sticking my fidgeting hands into my pockets.
She tilts her head at me, her eyes scanning my facial expressions "Meaning you don't care?"
"No. Meaning I don't drink." I say, and she nods casually. I lift my eyebrows in surprise and she takes a sip of her drink.
"What?" She asks, catching onto my questionable glance.
"You don't care that I don't drink?"
"Of course I don't. You're on the right road." She nods, before turning around and filling a red cup with water. "But my friend might care, so take this and act cool." I nod quickly, as I take a sip of the warm tap water. I cringe. I hate tap. "Ugh, and don't embarrass me."
She grabs my sleeve again, but I quickly tug it away, grabbing her hand instead. If she's going to drag me around, I'd rather it not look like she is. She isn't phased by it and pushes out the back door towards a group of people around a fire pit.
"Hey fuckers!" She greets rudely, and she receives the same greeting. I'm taken back by how many people smile at her instead of look at her in disgust for calling them fuckers. That must be her friendly greeting. "This is neighbor-"
