My life is perfect, I have wonderful friends who'd never go behind my back, a loyal boyfriend and a great reputation at Willow Brook Secondary. But how do I know all this for fact? Well simple answer is, is that I can read all their minds. My powers are still a mystery to me, and developed about 8 years ago.
"Hey, Rachel!" It was my best friend Josie. Josie was a short girl with brown curly hair and big brown eyes that always looked cheerful. She had gorgeous tan skin and a smile that could light up a room. Josie has been my best friend ever since the first day of kindergarten, and she always had good thoughts to say about me.
I was somewhat a polar opposite of Josie. I light skin and wavy black hair. Freckles littered my face. My eyes however, were a bright whitish silver. I had never seen a colour like it in my family, nor anywhere I've ever gone. They glittered in the sun and the white certainly dominated the grey, but it was still visible.
"Ugh we have chemistry first," Josie moaned as we started to walk down the halls to Ms. Fletchers class. A class that was hated by most students. Ms. Fletcher was a grumpy old lady, she was quiet chubby and had white hair and wrinkled skin. Her evil black eyes seemed too look into my soul, though I was sure they were just dark brown.
Walking through the halls I could every thought imaginable. Though the halls were silent, they were unbelievably loud for me. "Omg dean is so hot." I heard from lily, funny thing is dean is her best friends boyfriend. I heard thoughts about the guys thinking about the upcoming football game, the first of the season. And then Sarah's thought about sleeping with Mr. Rezdal. Of course I used these thoughts to best I could, I had this power for a reason. If I ever needed to I had blackmail on every student.
We walked into Ms. Fletchers room and sat at the back of the class, listening to another boring lesson.
"Now class, take out all the required objects for the experiment." Ms. Fletcher told the class eying is all down. "You all should know how to do it after my demonstration."
"Hey did u hear about the new kid? I hear he's super hot!" Josie went on about this new kid as we took out our test tubes and chemicals for the demonstrations.
"Why should I care about some hot new kid, I have Lance already." I told Josie rolling my eyes, this kid was probably just like the other guys in this school, they were all the same.
"Oh c'mon, Rache." Josie said pushing my shoulder. "Maybe he's different."
I snorted at that comment. I was sure he wasn't going to be different.
We started adding our chemicals to the test tubes in the way we were shown, all the while Ms. Fletcher was breathing down our necks for a tiny mistake to yell about. Most of the classes thoughts were confusing, not very helpful to me. However, Farrah Heaf, knew exactly what she was doing. I followed her every thought and did as she did. Her thoughts seemed like the perfect directions, even better than Ms. Fletcher.
"Very well, you did everything correctly." Ms. Fletcher said looking disappointedly at Josie and I's project. I smirked at her and she turned on her heel and walked away, mumbling to herself.
"Honestly I never know how you manage to get every project correct!" Josie slapped my back and laughed.
"Well what can I say, I have some talent." I gave a cocky hair flip with that comment.
Josie had no idea that I could read minds, I told nobody about my ability. It just felt like something I was supposed to keep a secret. That day I felt so scared, so scared of what was happening around me, but I didn't tell anyone.
"Hey baby." Lance had walked up to me and kissed my cheek.
Lance was my boyfriend and I've known him ever since I started high school in grade 8. He was tall and fairly muscular. He has slicked back brown hair and gorgeous baby blue eyes.
"Hey lance!" I hugged him and then started walking down the hall towards the cafeteria.
"So, how was chemistry with Ms. Fletcher." Lance smiled at me faintly.
"Well how do you think it went?" Josie laughed.
Lance blushed, embarrassed about the question he asked. "Ha, yea that was a pretty stupid question, wasn't it."
I couldn't help but smile at his cuteness and kiss him on cheek, wbu made him blush even harder.
As soon as we walked into the cafeteria I felt a weird presence, one that I have never felt before. I looked around a bit but couldn't see anything odd. As we sat and chatted the feeling didn't go away, it just kept getting stronger and stronger. I kept looking around to no avail and started feeling freaked out.
"Omg is that the new boy? He's actually hot." Josie was looking over to the corner of the cafeteria. I turned to see and sure enough a mysterious boy stood, staring right at me.
He has jet black hair, with his hair falling to one side of his head and the other side left with short hair, his hair was quite wavy, like mine. He had light skin and his overall presence was mysterious and left me feeling paranoid somehow. But what stood out to me, was his eyes. They were the same bright white as mine, except laced with some bright green instead of grey.
I tried to read his mind, blocking out all other thoughts, but when I did enter his mind, all I heard was emptiness.
'That's odd' I thought to myself.
'What's odd, that you can't read me?' The voice startled me. I had never gotten a response to my thoughts. I looked around the cafeteria frantically, and then my eyes locked with the new kids.
He was smirking at me, like he knew something I didn't. It really pissed me off, but at the same time it put me on edge.
'I can read minds too, you know.' Were the last words he thought before walking out of the cafeteria, the presumes becoming familiar again as he walked further.
