"How can you even be sure?"

"You were born on the very same day Avatar Amaterasu, the Avatar before you, unfortunately passed away."

"It's just a coincidence!"
You still refuse to believe this, using whatever excuse you have to deny the responsibility.
You couldn't be the Avatar! No way!

"Avatar Amaterasu was a firebender, and as the Avatar cycle goes, an airbender would continue the legacy. You have also selected the toys before you as a child, because they were familiar to you."

"There is no doubt that you are the next Avatar. Matriarch Hana herself, alongside your master Kana, have both spoken of witnessing your Avatar state."

"We shall find you a waterbending master in the north so that you may begin your training and-"

"NO!"
You shout and stand up, your voice booming throughout the room, the wind around you whoosing with your sudden movements.
You cover your mouth in realization of the disrespectful action, embarrassed.

Their surprised eyes all lock onto you, the sudden attention forcing you up on your feet.

You run to your room and throw yourself on the bed, a million thoughts running in your head at once, too fast for you to even comprehend as it began to ache.

You rapidly shake your head and cover your ears, even more frustrated as it failed to somehow stop the screaming thoughts.

So many questions needed to be answered, and you had so many doubts form in an instant that everything was confusing.
It felt like you didn't even know who you were anymore.

After a while, you calm down, now holding yourself as you stare at the walls, the overbearing feeling of what you've been told lingering as you felt the air in the room turn heavy.

The soft creak of the door made you curl up more, brows furrowed, unsure of what you would hear.

"Y/N..."
She slowly walked up to you and sat down by your side, her hand gently stroking your hair.

You could feel Kana pity you as you whimpered, eventually turning around to rest your head in her lap, tightly gripping her robes as you found comfort in her careful approach.

Not long after your parent's death, Kana began to take up the role of a parental figure in your life, and you trusted her with all your thoughts and feelings, and yet, you couldn't muster a single question.

"Please tell me I'm dreaming..."
You whisper, clinging tighter to her robe, sniffling as tears well up in your eyes.

"...I'm afraid not, my child. It would seem that this is truly your-"

"Destiny...? What kind of cruel destiny is this? I just lost my brother and now the universe slaps me in the face with the fact that I'm the Avatar..."
She wipes your tears away, rubbing your back up and down to soothe you as you held in your sobs, hiccuping.

"Shhh, you may not accept it now, but this is the way things are. It's up to you how you'll handle this now..."

Her words stung, but deep down you knew she was right.
A dreadful silence fills the room, the older woman still softly petting your hair as you rested in her lap, face stained with dry tears.
